Diti, the wife of
Kasyapa, agreed to undergo the purificatory process known as pumsavana. "Yes,"
she said, "I shall do everything according to your instructions." With great jubilation she became pregnant, having taken semen from Kasyapa, and faithfully began discharging the vow.
