Please accept my most unworthy obeisances in the dust of your divine lotus feet. The history books are filled with tales of man's adventures, his journeys east and west in search of new frontiers, with their promises of wealth, wisdom and fountains of youth. In such vain search, man, even today, is climbing to the tops of mountains and diving to the depths of oceans. Let them look here and there to find what they will, but as far as I am concerned, all my searches have found their treasured goal in your lotus feet. As Dhruva Maharaja prays:
nūnam vimusta-matayas tava mayaya te
ye tvam bhavapyaya-vimoksanam anya-hetoḥ
arcanti kalpaka-tarum kunapopabhogyam
icchanti yat sparsajam niraye 'pi nṝnam
(Bhag. 4.9.9)
Although time wears away my youth with its fabled inevitability and my experience of the things of this world grows year by year, each Vyasa-pūja finds me all the more convinced that the three worlds and all their contents, when not engaged in the service of your lotus feet, are as useless as the stool of a boar. Although the measure of my conviction may increase, the foolish hobgoblins of my mind and senses still seek to push me away from your shelter. Although the whole world stands about me shipwrecked, why do I still look there for refuge? Oh, Srila Prabhupada, because of your Divine Grace only, there is still joy in the world, there is still hope in the world, there is still some future worth living for, some work worth doing, some words worth saying. Because of Your Divine Grace, man's search still has a chance of reaching a worthwhile conclusion. I think, therefore, that because of your continued presence on earth, the sun and moon still rise at their appointed hours, the cows still give milk and the Deities in the temple shine forth in all Their Splendour.
The whole world is deluded by impersonalism out of frustration because in our experience all persons have exploited us and cheated us, and know that I am also a cheater. But in you we have found a true friend and well-wisher, and we can see by your example what a person is really meant to be. So we worship your lotus feet and pray for your benediction. As Prahlada Maharaja prays in Srimad-Bhagavatam:
svasty astu visvasya khalaḥ prasidatam
dhyayantu bhūtani sivam mitho dhiya
manas ca bhadram bhajatad adhoksaje
avesyatam no matir apy ahaituki
"May there be good fortune throughout the universe, and may all envious persons be pacified. May all living entities become calm by practicing bhakti-yoga, for by accepting devotional service they will think of each other's welfare. Therefore let us all engage in the service of the supreme transcendence, Lord Sri Krsna, and always remain absorbed in thought of Him." (Bhag. 5.18.9)
We pray also that the whole world may become attracted to your message: that we are the tiny servants of the Absolute Supreme Personality of Godhead and that they may see that it is only by receiving the pure, unalloyed mercy of accepting Your Divine Grace as their spiritual master and saviour that their useless lives will gain value and meaning.
Please always give me this power of recollection. Please always keep me engaged in your service.
Your most fallen disciple & servant,
