Vyasa-pūja Homage to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
The spiritual master is the mercy incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. His message is the message of God. His desire is the desire of God, and his pleasure is the pleasure of God. There is no other way to approach Krsna than through the medium of His beloved servant, the spiritual master. Therefore, we must fall at his feet in all humility, without personal prestige or motivation, and beg his merciful glance upon us. Without becoming his unalloyed and thoroughly devoted servants, there is absolutely no escape from the miserable conditions of material existence. We must be, therefore, ever vigilant not to mistake him to be an ordinary man of whom we might become envious. Rather, we should be always proud of our spiritual master-proud of his courage, proud of his wisdom, and proud of his purity. He is actually Krsna, manifested before our crippled vision, because he is delivering the message of Krsna. He speaks what Krsna speaks, and he lives it for all to see.
The spiritual master remains always in Vrndavana because wherever he goes, he makes that place as good as Vrndavana. Internally, he relishes in Krsna's sublime pastimes of love, while externally he preaches the mission of Lord Caitanya for the benefit of all. Thus he is the best of all jiva souls and none is more dear to Krsna than he.
Caught in maya's grip, we can only sit humbly at his lotus feet, eagerly drinking every sound that springs from his lotus lips. Then, with all enthusiasm, obedience and submission, we must execute his divine command. He is our only hope, our shelter in a hostile ocean, our oasis in a barren desert.
When we approach the spiritual master, we must cast aside the crutches of material designations. We cannot maintain such artificialities and surrender utterly at his lotus feet. Foolish pride and a false sense of independence veil our real knowledge and hide the spiritual master from our vision. To become the menial servants of the spiritual master constitutes the perfection of our existence. Then our spiritual life is awakened, our eternal rasa established, and our platform of enjoyment revived. Once surrendered we are not disturbed, in any condition nor do we have any material desires, being completely satisfied simply to be his faithful servants. Unable to attain this position, the unsurrendered disciple, Balavanta dasa, continues to suffer without solace and can only lament his wretched condition, praying for the benediction rain of his spiritual master's compassion.
