मैत्रेय उवाच
इत्थं स लोकगुरुणा समादिष्टो विशाम्पतिः ।
तथा च कृत्वा वात्सल्यं मघोनापि च सन्दधे ॥ ३९ ॥
maitreyah uvaca-the great sage Maitreya continued to speak; ittham-thus; sah-King Prthu; loka-guruna-by the original teacher of all people, Lord Brahma; samadistah-being advised; visam-patih-king, master of the people; tatha-in that way; ca-also; krtva-having done; vatsalyam-affection; maghona-with Indra; api-even; ca-also; sandadhe-concluded peace.
The great sage Maitreya continued: When King Prthu was thus advised by the supreme teacher, Lord Brahma, he abandoned his eagerness to perform yajnas and with great affection concluded a peace with King Indra.
