Prabhupada:
Apareyam prakrtim viddhi me para [Bg. 7.4]. The Supreme Lord has two types of energies: superior and inferior. When I remain enamoured by the inferior energy then all my occupational activities are inferior. Just like we think of ourselves as belonging to the Hindu dharma, some think that they are Muslims and others think of themselves as Christians. Some take their religion or dharma to be the service of their country. Some think that their religion is to serve the society. So, there are so many religions but because they are all connected with this material body they are all inferior, apara.
So, if one continues to remain engaged in inferior activities of religion then perfection is never achieved. In the scriptures it is known as kaitava dharma. Kaitava means trickery or cheating. In the Srimad Bhagavatam it has been said right in the beginning dharmaḥ projjita-kaitavo atra [SB 1.1.2]: all the cheating kind of religion. By that it means all that which goes on in the name of religion but is actually not. First, we all have to understand what dharma is. In the religious scriptures it has been said dharmam tu saksad bhagavat-pranitam [SB 6.3.19], that which is the word of God, the order of God, that is dharma. Why? Because the living entities are the parts and parcels of the Supreme Lord.
Just like many times it has been presented to you all: just like we have this finger, it is a part of our body. As soon as I feel like my finger should scratch my head, right then the finger starts scratching. If I wish to scratch the leg.. The same thing. So, it is required from the part to follow the orders of the whole. There can be many other examples in this connections. Just like if the government has passed a law, then you have to follow the order of the chairperson of the legislative assembly. Similarly, there can be different laws. Therefore, dharma means that which you cannot give up. You cannot choose to disobey the laws of the government then you will be in trouble for the government will punish you. So, what is dharma? Dharma is what has been established by the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Just like tamarind is sour and sweets are sweet, this has been created by God. Similarly, the rocks are solid, who has made it so? God has. So, it cannot be that there is a rock which isn't solid. Wherever there are rocks there will be hardness. And wherever there is water, there will be liquidity. Wherever there is fire there is light and heat. So, religion also should be understood in this manner. Religion or dharma is not something which one can speculate for himself, can call it dharma. Dharma means dhru dhatu [root] ma. That thing which remains with one forever. Just like if someone gives some sugar in your hand. You know it then and there that it is supposed to be sweet. We taste sugar and if we find it to be anything but sweet then we question what it is? We deny it to be sugar. Because it not natural for sugar to be not sweet, it's not its dharma.
So, this way we should understand what is the dharma of a living entity. Everything has its unique dharma, so what would be the dharma of the living entity which is the part and parcel of the Supreme Lord? The dharma of the part is to serve the whole that is its dharma. The real dharma is to serve the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is why the scriptures say sa vai pumsam paro dharmo yato bhaktir adhoksaje [SB 1.2.6], so there are many dharmas around us but the scriptures denounce them to be cheating dharmas. Because there are so many religions that is why the Supreme Lord Himself comes and teaches, that this is religion. What is the purpose of Lord's appearance? To establish the principles of religion.
The Supreme Lord appears to establish dharma, this is the very meaning of incarnation of the Supreme Lord: to establish dharma. Then the Lord says, sarva-dharman parityajya [Bg. 18.66]. But if the Lord appears to establish dharma then why is He now asking to give it all up? This should be pondered upon. He asks us to give dharmas up, those dharmas which are actually cheating religion. Dharma kaitava, kaitava means that which is cheating religion. The religion in which the followers are not taught to surrender unto the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord. They are all cheating religions.
This has been clearly stated, sa vai pumsam paro dharmah [SB 1.2.6]: only that is the topmost dharma, the best dharma or religion by executing which religion one learns to engage in rendering devotional service unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead, yato bhaktir adhoksaje. So bhakti means the activities between the Lord and His devotees. Everything is not one, the Lord and the living entity are separate. They have their separate existence, and the dealings between them are called bhakti, devotional service.
Yes, and that devotional service is supposed to be causeless, ahaituki. Not that one may think, that the Lord will provide me with something I want that is why I am rendering devotional service. No, that will not be pure devotional service. Bhakti or devotional service is ahaituki without any selfish desire, without any hetu. The consideration is that the Lord is our master and we are meant to serve Him. It should be ahaituki just like our finger, even if we don't feed it for ten days but it will agree to serve us. The finger will not say that you have not fed me for so many days, I will not serve! No. Regardless of what circumstances the Lord puts us in our position is to keep on serving. Just like King Kulasekhara, as it has been said in the Mukunda Mala stotra, yad yad vad vad bhavita, whatever is going to happen according to my karmic reaction, let it happen. I don't care for it. However, I wish for my mind to forever remain engaged in serving your lotus feet
Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu also teaches, na dhanam na janam na sundarim kavitam va jagad-isa kamaye . This aratrika that we sing-dhana ghara ave jaya jagadisa hare. They worship the Supreme Lord Jagadisa so that they may become wealthy. This is not pure bhakti. This is with selfish interest, "I am worshiping the Lord, chanting his glories and rendering devotional service..." what for? So, that I may become very wealthy. This is not pure devotional service, this is mixed devotional service, vidha bhakti, which still is under the shelter of jnana and karma, just like the karmis they work for some material profit. If they don't earn any profit for themselves they don't see any point in doing that thing. Whereas, bhakti is not meant for materialistic endeavor or accomplishment. Not that now I have ten thousand rupees, I will engage in devotional service to make it one lakh. No, this is not devotional service but can be called simply worship.
Catur vidha bhajante mam sukrtino rjuna: this worshiping is done by those who are pious sukrtivan they worship the Supreme Lord. Those who approach the Lord to get something for themselves they are also recognized in the scriptures as pious because those who are completely sinful they don't even approach the Lord. Therefore, if anyone approaches the Lord even with a selfish desire, he is considered to be pious: srnvatam svakathah krsna punya sravana kirtana if someone renders devotional service with a material desires by hearing about the Lord's qualities, pastimes and glories, that is to be considered pious. However, for a devotee there is no consideration of pious or impious, to sin or to be pious both are causes for bondage. That is why those who are devotees of the Supreme Personality of Godhead they are above piety and sin. Yes, they don't care for sin or pious deeds, their only object is to satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead. They don't keep any consideration of good or bad deeds.
That is why it has been said, the consideration of pure devotional service: anyabhilasita sunyam, no personal desire. That is completely zero anyabhilasita sunyam jnana karmady anavrtam and those who are jnanis, the jnanis aspire for impersonal liberation. To merge with the Supreme Brahman and become one with it, that is their consideration. So, jnana and karma and the thinking of the karmi is that he may get enjoyment by attaining heavenly planets, even higher planets like maharloka, these are the considerations of a karmi, a fruitive worker. Whoever, devotional service is jnana karmady anavrtam, it is completely beyond the selfish desires of karma and jnana.
Just like Sridhar Swami says, that in the Srimad Bhagavatam where it has been said dharma projjitah kaitava atra, there Sridhar Swami comments: atra srimad bhagavate moksa vanccha abhisandhi paryanti nirastam, up to those who wish for liberation moksa, all of that has been rejected, even though liberation is an elevated concept still it is rejected. That is why it is termed as ahaituki adhoksaje sa vai pumsam paro dharmo yato bhaktir adhoksaje ahaituki apratihata, devotional service, cannot be hindered by anything. One may say that he is very poor, how can I arrange for performance of devotional service. Currently, I am supposed to earn my livelihood. Apratihata, a person may be poor or rich, he may be foolish or whatever, he may be lower in society or very sinful, devotional service is for everyone. All one needs is to be determined that from now on I surrender unto the Supreme Lord. This is needed.
Again, this is not the consideration that one is currently very foolish, he will first study the Vedanta, become learned and then execute devotional service. Or one may think of earning a few million rupees then shall engage in devotional service. Or one may consider oneself to be too young to perform devotional service. None of the above are valid. One should resolve to engage in devotional service from right this moment, even a child can do that. Just see, this little girl, not more than four years old but she is dancing in the kirtan. So, apratihata it is not like that she is too young to be a devotee and she would have to become very learned and materially well accomplished then only will she be able to perform devotional service. No, immediately. Afterall, what is the consideration of a child or an old man in this world? Everyone is a young boy and everyone is an old man. If a person is a young boy what is the guarantee that he will live a hundred years? No, everyone is old and everyone is young.
Prahlada Maharaja says, durlabham manusam janma tadapi adhruvam arthadam, this human form of life is very rare and we have attained this after a very long time wandering 8400000 species of life. If one becomes a tree then his ten thousand years of existence are wasted. In San Francisco, in America there is a garden in which there is a tree which is known to be seven thousand years old. Still it is very stout and strong and looks like will survive another seven thousand years. But what is the use of having such a uselessly long life? The big, big scientists they wish for increasing the human longevity. But what is the use of living long? Even a tree has a long duration of life. Yes, he may live may only for two years but should attain pure devotional service, then one's life will be considered a success. Otherwise, what is to use of living for ten thousand yeas like a tree?
In the scriptures the consideration has been made: taravo kim na jivanti, don't the tree live? But someone may argue that even though the trees live they don't have sex enjoyment. Then the scriptures says that don't even the dogs and hogs engage in sexual intercourse? In this way the concept has been developed. So, it is required by the humans: sa vai pumsam paro dharman yato bhaktir adhoksaje: adhoksaja is another name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead which is synonymous to knowledge, pratyaksa, paroksa, aparoka, adhoksaja and apraktra. Not all knowledge is the same. Those who consider true whatever meets their eyes, is called pratyaksa but such knowledge cannot be considered perfect
Just like our great grandfather has ahs a name. we may not have seen him but does that mean that he never existed? Similarly even if we have not seen God it still doesn't mean that we can say that there is no God. "Can you show me God?" My dear will you be able to see God? First you should practice how to see God, premanajna chhurita bhakti vilocanena santah sadaiva hrdayesu vilokayanti, one should first attain love for God. One should learn how to, attain love for God. Gradually, in this way you shall certainly see God… how is it possible some other way?
Premanjana churita bhakti vilocanena santah sadaiva hrdayesu vilokayanti, all the time twenty four hours a day you will see only God. But first you have to obtain the eyes. And how can one obtain such eyes? Sarvobpadhi vinirmuktam tat paratvena nirmalam, these eyes that we have now, what do I see with them, we see our country, our family, our body, our kids, our son, our wealth, that is all we see. But when you will see that this body belongs to God, this wealth belongs to God.
So, just as Krishna is teaching, raso ham apsu kaunteya, this water that you drink, this the taste of this water is Me. When we start viewing things in this way, just like if someone drinks water, or whenever you drink water, then upon tasting you should know that the taste of water is Krishna, prabhasmi sasi suryayoh, in this way the Lord is Himself advising in the scriptures, just like that one should try and develop one's vision. Sarvopadhi vinirmukta tat paratvena nirmalam, one may see that this water is the water of His country but the devotee sees that this taste of water is of God. That is the only difference, premanjana churita bhakti vilocanena, in this way devotional service or love for God entails constant chanting and glorification of the Lord's activities: srvanam kirtanam visno pada sevanam arcanam vandanam dasyam, there are the various facilities one may chose a few or at least once and attain advancement.
Just like in this place here hearing and chanting is going on and so is the worship of the Supreme Lord, there is also servitorship and also a mood of friendship. Moreover, people are dedicating their entire lives in this movement, so this place is complete with the six limbs of devotional service. If this is not possible for someone to execute these in full then the path of devotional service is so nice that you may execute nine limbs, or eight, or six or five or even one limb, there will be result. Take for example this facility for hearing about the Supreme Lord, we are opening centres in different places, this is just to give the people an opportunity to hear a little about the activities of the Supreme Lord. Just by hearing one will attain perfection.
Just like Pariksita Maharaja sri visnu sravane pariksita abhavat vayasaki kirtane, when Pariksit Maharja was about to give up his body he was given a notice of seven days, that he will have to die within seven days. Such was the curse of a brahmana body. This was a little mistake that initiated Kaliyuga. So, he was given a notice of seven days and he was trying to determine what to do. All the big-big, sages, demigods and kinds congregated where Pariksita Maharaja was present and so also came Sukadeva Goswami. Because Pariksita Maharaja was a devotee, Sukadeva Goswami arrived there for the king was leaving his body.
His father Vyasadeva was also present. So, there were sages or rishis present there of all categories, naso rsir yasya matam na bhinnam, Pariksita Maharaja inquired from them, what should he do? Someone recommended yoga, someone dhyana someone recommended fruitive sacrifices of karma kanda. But Sukadeva Goswami said, "My dear king you should simply hear the glorification of the Lord." This was welcomed by all the sages present there in unison. So, the king gave up all other engagements and simply sat and heard the Bhagavata.
So, yes that is why it has been said sravane parksita, King Pariksita attained liberation and attained the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord. And Sukadeva Goswami only performed kirtana, this kirtan. All that I am speaking to you this is also kirtan. Not that only by using mrdanga and kartal can one performed kirtan kirtana, kirtayati, wherever there is glorification of the Lord it is to be considered kirtan. Sravanam kirtanam visnoh, hearing and chanting of the glories of Visnu not anyone else, this will benefit the practitioner, not otherwise. There is nothing but sravanam and kirtanam going on in the united nations, they are hearing and chanting but all nonsense they have been doing so for twenty years, since their establishment. This kind of sravanam and kirtanam will reap no benefit even if one goes on doing so for four thousand years, one will benefit only by discussing and hearing about Krishna. So, sravanam kirtanam vishnu, this is the purpose of the scriptures, one should have meeting and assemblies assemplies based on this. [break]
So, this fire that is blazing, it needs to be put out like this. This is the verdict of the scriptures. All the big stalwart acharyas recommend the same. This should not be neglected. Everyone should accept this. These instructions are beyond the worldly discussions. In an ordinary man of this world, there are four faults: brahma, pramada karanapatava and vipralipsa. Whereas the person who is liberated, just as five thousand years ago this Bhagavata was composed and so was Bhagavad gita, which was spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself, these have not become obsolete. Even to this day great sages and acharyas take advantage of it.
So, why? Because these scriptures are not something written by any foolish living entity. These have been composed by a liberated person who is free from defects like, bhrama pramada, vipra lipsa and karanapatava. Therefore, these books are accepted as scriptures. Also, you can see that in scriptures like Bhagavad gita and Srimad Bhagavatam the appearance of Lord Buddha has been prophesied kikatesu bhavisyati, even though the Srimad Bhagavatam was composed of five thousand years ago. In the Bhagavata even the place of the appearance of Lord Buddhadeva has been mentioned and then bhavisyati, that it will happen in the future.
This is called, a scripture. The composers of such literature know past, present and future. They know everything, Krishna says Himself that he is the knower of past, present and future. That is why only that person should be accepted who knows all that is in the present; was in the past and will be in the future. This is the reason why Krishna question Arjuna- "why do you lament in this way?" You, Me and all the soldiers and the kings gathered here were present in the past, they are alive now and will exist in the future. This is known as the understanding of past, present and future. But those who cannot see three inches from them and go completely blind upon lights going off they are not proper source for hearing. One should hear about his past, present and future from a proper source otherwise, andha yathandhair upaniyamanah, there is one blind person who is guiding another blind person. There will be no consequence other than the both falling in a ditch.
[Break] There are three hundred thousand types of four legged animals and humans are of four hundred different species. So, as compared to the number of animals including all from the land to those who fly, the number of human species is much less. Kecara, vecara, sthavaram jangama all those stationary, those who can move in the land, water or air their species is much more than those of humans, but all of them are fed by the Supreme Lord:
In the Vedas it has been said that the living beings are all eternal. We are eternal living beings and so is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, so what is the difference between Him and us? The Supreme Lord gives all living entities to eat and we wander from here and there to eat. That is the only difference. But there are foolish people who claim themselves to be God, they all should be asked to feed everyone. Such people cannot even feed their own families but run away by taking sannaysa and they claim to be God? This is all foolishness, eko bahunam yo vidadhati Kaman: These 8400000 species of life, in which the spirit souls are wandering all their needs regarding eating, sleeping, mating and defending all of that is arranged for by the Supreme Lord, eko bahunam yo vidadhati Kaman.
Therefore, the Supreme Lord says, etad yonini bhutani sarvani, sarvani means that all those who are within the 8400000 species of life, the cause of their creation and annihilation is only me. This is the definition of God. Etad yonini sarvani, etad yonin bhutani sarvani upadharaya hama krtsnasya jagatah, of the creation including all the universes aham krtsnasya jagatah prabhavah pralayas tatha. Creation, maintenance or annihilation all that happens, the Supreme Lord, Krishna is the only cause of it all. Therefore, the Lord is also addressed as sarva karana karanam. God is the cause of all causes, the secondary creation is carried out by Lord Brahma, the maintenance is done by Lord Vishnu and annihilation is the activity of Lord Shiva, Mahadeva. All three of them are the masters of three modes of nature. Just like in a government office there are different departments and all departments have their chiefs. Things work in this creation in the same way. The official directors are Brahma, Visnu and Maheshwara, the duty of Lord Brahma is creation, Lord Visnu's duty is to maintain it. Maintenance can only be managed by Lord Vishnu not by Lord Brahma or Lord Shiva eko bahunam yo vidadhati kaman, that is Lord Vishnu's work.
So, Lord Brahma creates and Vishnu maintains and Lord Shiva has the service of annihilation, that's all. When there is a the need to perform complete annihilation Lord Shiva is called for. Just like when someone builds a house, someone maintains it and someone else destroys it. Similarly, you can understand that this universe is also like a house which has been created by Lord Brahma. The maintainer of this house is Lord Vishnu and the one destroying it is Shivaji, Mahesa. So, in this way things happen bhutva bhutva praliyate, this material world there is creation, existence for some time and then it is annihilated.
So, just like if you moved into a house and stayed there for sometime but then the landlord asked you to move out for that house will now be deconstructed. Would you like it? You will think, "Oh I just had that house for myself and now that is also destroyed. It would have been better if I could own one." This kind of contemplation happens within the person. Similarly, we should see that we are given this material body, etad yaunini and we have to wander through 8400000 species of life and the work of the intelligence is to figure out how to stop this cycle of birth and death within these material species. Otherwise, one may be a big businessman in one life and a hog is the very next and an ant in the next. Bhutva bhutva praliyate, one gets a body stays for some times and then it is annihilated. Then according to one's activities one gets the next body which again stays for some times and then then has to be destroyed. So, this is going on. Only we are foolish people who are ignorant of it. Therefore, we should take instructions from acharyas:
ei rūpe brahmanḍa bhramite kona bhagyavan jiva
guru-krsna-prasade paya bhakti-lata-bija [Cc. Madhya 19.151] In this way the living beings are wandering in this world in different species. And by wander in this way if one is fortunate enough then he gets a proper spiritual master by the mercy of Krishna and the spiritual master takes the person to Krishna. So, Krishna gives one a guru and guru takes one to Krishna guru krsna krpaya paya, those who think that it is such a hassle to take birth and die again and again and are looking for a way out. And ask God for help out of this situation. Those who genuinely pray to God, they are granted a spiritual master by God Himself. That is why it has been said that one needs the mercy of both Krishna and the spiritual master. When one has the mercy of the Supreme Lord and the mercy of his spiritual master then this bhutva bhutva praliyate, the repeated cycle of birth and death will stop. Bhakti lata bija, how will this cycle of birth and death stop? Bhakti lata, by engagement in devotional service.
So, the Supreme Lord Lrod says etad yaunini bhutani sarvani upadharaya aham krtnasya jagatah, you can see that at every place He has stress on 'Me'… mama eva ye prapadyante sarvadharman parityajya mam ekam, so, those world mam [Me] has been used. Aham and mam by using these words the Lord is indicating towards Himself Aham sarvasya aham krtsnasya jagatah prabhavah pralayas tatha. So, how can you become God? No one else, Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva are all big-big demigods so one can question like that. Just like there are some foolish people who sometimes ask: "How can you say that only Krishna is God? We also have a God, he has a long beard. We have this person who is an incarnation of God or that person who is an incarnation." Nowadays, so many such incarnations are roaming about in the streets. So, how can we say that only Krishna is God. In this way they can argue. They say "maybe you can accept Krishna but we have a different opinion and therefore our God is also different." This is their argument, because out of their foolishness they cannot understand the real position of Krishna
That is why Krishna Himself declares mattah parataram nanyat, they is no one else na anyat higher than me in position. There is no one equal to the Supreme Lord and neither is anyone above Him. Everyone is below Him. Therefore, another one of the names of the Lord is asamaurdhava. Asamaurdhava when the Lord shows Arjuna His Universal form then Arjuna addressed Him as asamaurdhava, "my dear Lord there is no one equal to You or above you." And the Supreme Lord also says Himself: mattah parataram nanyam kincid asti dhananjaya. There is no entity material or spiritual which is greater than me.
So, the one who is intelligent they remain holding tightly the lotus feet of Lord Krishna. All we have to understand is that there is no one higher than Krishna. that's all. We have to recognize Krishna and remain firmly at the shelter of His lotus feet and Krishna says mam eva ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te, as soon as one takes shelter of me immediately becomes liberated. To become free from illusion or maya means mukti or liberation. And if one understand that there is no one superior to Krishna and takes shelter of his lotus feet, even though it doesn't happen so quickly bahunam janamanam ante. If a person surrenders immediately then, he is very intelligent. Just like when Krishna says mattah parataram nanyat there is no truth greater than me. Then why should we worship anyone else? Mama ekam, this is the realization of an intelligent person.
Yes, but those who are less intelligent abuddhayah manyate mam abuddhayah, when the Lord says avyaktam vyaktim apannam manyate mam abuddhayah these foolish people who say that the Supreme Absolute Truth is impersonal, and when it incarnates under the influence of material modes of goodness, passion and ignorance, that is called Bhagavan or God. In reply to their logic Krishna, the Supreme Godhead replies avyaktam vyaktim apannam manyate mam abuddhayah. That they have less intelligent due to a poor fund of knowledge therefore, they say that the Supreme Lord is impersonal He has appeared an incarnation like an ordinary man. Who speaks like this? Abuddhyah, those who don't know anything about the Supreme Absolute Truth they speak like this.
The Supreme Lord Krishna Himself says mattah parataram nanyat, there is no Supreme Truth higher than me. Mattah paratanam in all the scriptures it has been said about the object of essence, tattva: vadanti tat tattvavidas tattvam yad jnanam advayam brahmaeti paramatmeti bhagavaneti sabdyate, the essence or tattva what is that? Vadanti tat tattvavidas those who know the essence or tattva are known as tattva vidas. What is that essence? Vadanti tat tattva vidas tattvam yad jnanam advayam what is that advaya knowledge, non dual knowledge? Brahmeti paramatmeti bhagavaneti sabdyate, that which is the essence, it is realized by different people according to their intelligence. Some say it is impersonal Brahman, some say it is Paramatma and those who known in perfection that the essence or tattva is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The final stage of realization is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Just like the sun, if one wishes to understand the Supreme Absolute Truth with a little intelligence then he will understand quickly. Just like your house is illuminated by sunlight. So there is the sun, sun rays and there is also the sun planet. Just like there is the planet earth planet where so many people reside and there is the king here. The same way in the sun planet there is the king whose name is Surya Narayana Currently, the post of Surya Narayana, he has been named in the Bhagavad gita vivasvan His name is Vivasvan, vivasvan manave prahah manur iskvakave 'bravit. So, all of this has been given in the scriptures, including that current governor of the sun is Vivasvan.
So, the sun god Surya Narayana, his influence or effulgence is spread all over the universe in the form of sun rays. Now you can make the calculation which is greater the sun god or the sun rays? Some may say that sun rays are greater. But no, after all what is the source of sun rays? The origin of sun rays has to be greater than the sun rays themselves. Isn't it? Since we believe in what we see, therefore the way there is the effulgence of sun god the same way there is the effulgence of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Which is known as brahma jyoti. That is why the Lord has already said, brahmano aham pratistha. It is to be known that this impersonal effulgence is His bodily effulgence. It has also been confirmed in the Brahma samhita, yasya prabha prabhavato jagadanda koti.
So, these are the concepts only those who are foolish, they fail to understand. I am not calling anyone foolish but the Supreme Lord is. Avajananti mam mudhah, mudhah completely foolish, manusim tanumasritah because the Lord appears to deliver the entire world and performs His pastimes as a human being. Although, he is no ordinary human because no human can lift a mountain. However, it appears that Krishna is performing his human-like pastimes in Vrindavana and Dvarka. But still He is no ordinary human being, but acts like one according to the need. He lifted the Govardhan mountain in the age of seven years and married sixteen thousand queen all at the same time. How can a mere human accomplish such feats? And because no human being can do anything like this therefore, those who are foolish they say, "Oh these are all folk lore, fairy tales. How can anything like this ever happen?" They cannot comprehend this with their brain and thus they remain illusioned. So, this is going on. Therefore the Supreme Lord Himself appears and explains if only we have the brains, we will be able to understand. As soon as we understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead, then what else there is to, tyaktva deham punar janma naiti mameti kaunteya. So these are the facts. Krishna says:
Just like there is a necklace of gems, in one thread hundreds of gems can be strung. In the same way all that exists within this world the origin of that is aham sarvasya prabhavo, the origin of all that is the Original Person that is govindam adi purusam. The original person, is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna. Therefore, the Supreme Lord Himself explains this. That is why our Bhagavad gita, which is being published by McMillan company, the Trades Manager of the McMillan company says that this Bhagavad gita increases in sales all other editions of the Bhagavad gita, their sales go down with time. Moreover, we publish one edition at least every year, each edition includes about fifty thousand copies. So, because we have presented the Bhagavad gita As It Is, therefore it has a very high demand. After all this is the real thing, just like if there is pure gold or pure milk available then the customers are found very easily but if it is some how adulterated then it will require marketing and advertisement.
So, the real Supreme Personality of Godhead is readily accepted by everyone, they may be from this country or abroad. Whereas, imitation God is rejected by everyone, they may accept him for a day or two but then they will kick him out. So, this should be understood, mattah parataram nanyat kincid asti dhananjaya, sarva karana just like it has been said in the Brahma Samhita. sarva karana karanam and the Lord Himself confirms as mayi sarvam idam proktam sutre mani ganaiva: so the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the Original Cause govindam adi purusam tama ham bhajami, therefore Lord Brahma says that Govinda the one who is the Original Person, Him I worship. And Brahma, this is the Brahma Sampradaya, this Gaudiya Sampradaya of ours begins with Brahma, after Brahma comes Madhvacharya and our Gaudiya Sampradaya means Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in the line of Lord Brahma, comes Madhavendra Puri, the spiritual master of Sri Isvara Puri, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was the disciple of Sri Isvara Puri and following Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu we come.
This is called evam parampara praptam imam rajarsayo viduh. If anyone wishes to attain the knowledge of the Supreme Lord then he should receive it through proper disciplic succession, not whimsically. What can you understand? What is even the ability of your brain. The way big big stalwart acharyas have understood. The way Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has understood, the way Ramanujacharya has understood, the way Madhvacharya has understood, you should try to understand in that way, same as the way Arjuna has understood. What is the value of your whimsical brain? Anyone may say that this is my opinion or your opinion? But this goes on. One person says that this is my opinion and someone else comes and expresses his opinion, now there is a confusion about which opinion to accept. I may consider something to be right and finally someone says "yatha mat tatha path" and then everyone is called right
So, this foolishness is going on. But the Lord says that one should give up all this foolishness and surrender unto Him. This will benefit one's life in actuality and his life will become successful. Otherwise, one will be forced to wander within this material world, that's all. Mattah parataram nanyat kincid asti dhananjaya the Lord is saying this Himself. This has been accepted by Arjuna Himself and may great stalwart rsis such as narada vyasadeva as mentioned in the Bhagavad gita. Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya in the commentary of this verse it has been said cit makarandaya krsnaya. Sridhar svami and Jiva Goswami and many such scholars they all accept Krishna. Krsnastu bhagavan svayam, this is the fact. What is the point of choosing an ass's opinion giving up the opinion of such scholarly acharyas?
Giving up the opinion of big big qualified acharyas and choosing a fools opinion who just claims to be God Himself. That is the benefit in that? "you may be an incarnation of God, but we worship the Supreme Lord Himself." What do we have to do with an incarnation? Incarnation may be false and bogus but Krishna is not bogus. This everyone accepts. "So, why shouldn't I just accept Krishna." This is the behavior of an intelligent person. And what is the need for us to care about anyone else? But we won't do so. The person who will support our mischief, him we will accept as God and Krishna we will never support.
Krishna says tan aham dvisatah kruran ksipamhy ajasram asubhan asurisva iva yonisu those who are envious of the Lord, Krishna says that I send them to lower species of life. That is why people don't choose to accept Krishna as God, but those people who claim themselves to be some incarnation and will cheat us, they we will accept as God. But those who are intelligent they will accept Krishna the way it has been instructed in the Bhagavad gita, mattah parataram nanyat kincid asti dhananjaya. Still for those who will not be able to understand the Supreme Lord so quickly for them He has explained that this material world and the spiritual world, they are only His energies. That means everything that one sees around in nature is the property of the Supreme Lord and how to further experience the Lord in things around us is being explained by the Lord Himself.
Everything belongs to the Lord. Just like everything we see around us is the transformation of the sun rays. This accountability scientific fact. You can see that lets say, if there were no sunlight or maybe less sunlight. I have travelled in the western countries and wherever I went, there is no place where there is ample sunlight especially in the winters. All the leaves are shed down, at places where there is a lot of snowfall. Just because there is no sunlight all the beauty, vegetation and greenness is destroyed. At places where there is too much sunlight, that place becomes a desert, but places where there is optimum sunlight, it receives rainfall and there is greenness all around. In this way whatever is there in this world it is created by the sun rays, therefore the sun has been given the name yat caksur eka savita sakala grahanam raja suramurtisu asesa tejah. The king of all the planets, all these planetary systems, they appear to exist in the stage of weightlessness, and every planet, this is also because of the sun rays, because of the sun rays the planets remain in motion. All of these are scientific facts.
So, in this way you can understand that everything that we see in this world is somehow or other transformation of the sunrays. In the same way the Lord can be understood and how can I experience God? By the same material considerations, Krishna explains this Himself, what does He say? Raso 'ham apsu kaunteya. If anyone has reservations about two handed form of Krishna holding a flute then one can understand Him in this way, how? Raso ham apsu kaunteya, this water the taste of this water which makes us peaceful, this is Krishna, however, we choose to run after so many other tastes.
There are twelve kinds of rasas or mellows and all of us are running after these mellows. Whereas in the Vedas it has been said raso vai sah, Krishna is the origin of all the rasas. Jiva Goswami also describes Krishna in the Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu as akhila rasamrta murti, He is the very basis of all mellows. So, being the basis of all the mellows, the taste or mellow or rasa experience in water… when do we drink water? There has to be a taste in it otherwise, why would we drink it? When we become very thirsty then we immediately request for some water. All types of living beings including humans and animals, the insects and the trees everyone needs water. The tree just survive on water. Therefore, Krishna says himself that the taste that is there in water, the objective material, I am its acting principle.
Rasoham apsu kaunteya prabhasmi sasi suryayoh, that this moon and the sun, their light rays I am. So, those who say that they have not seen God, they must be lying when they say that they have never seen God. God is showing Himself, why don't you see? If you choose to keep your eyes shut then how will you see? Krishna, the Supreme Lord Himself says that the taste of water that you experience that I am. So, when you drink water why don't you think of the Lord? One should consider that alright, Krishna has said in the Bhagavad gita that this taste of water this is Krishna himself, thinking like this we will be accepting the fact and remembering Krishna. So, does one have to come to this place to have darshan of Krishna? No. this is akhilatma bhutah, golokeva nivasati akhilatma bhutah, those who are very fortunate they go to Vrindavana… [break]
