"To those who are constantly devoted and worship Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me."
The spiritual master is the bona fide representative of the Supreme Lord and he should be served with a humble submissive attitude.
The sastras tell us that if we want to understand the Absolute Truth we must approach a bona fide spiritual master. The spiritual master must be approached with a humble, submissive attitude. Otherwise, inquiries will not be effective. By submissive inquiry and rendering service to the spiritual master, he will impart knowledge to us. This is possible because he has seen the Absolute Truth. And what is the truth? That is explained in the next sloka:
yaj jnatva na punar moham
evam yasyasi panḍava
yena bhūtany asesani
draksyasy atmany atho mayi
(Bg. 4.35)
evam yasyasi panḍava
yena bhūtany asesani
draksyasy atmany atho mayi
(Bg. 4.35)
"And when you have thus learned the truth, you will know that all living beings are but part of Me-and that they are in Me and are Mine."
This is the message that we have received from our spiritual master. aham brahmasmi-
I am not this material body but pure spirit soul. We are all living beings, and we are all part and parcel of the Supreme Lord (Krsna). And our eternal constitution position is to render loving devotional service at the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord. (nitya-svarūpa-krsna-dasa)
The spiritual master is not a fad. It is a very serious proposition.
saksad-dharitvena samasta-sastrair
uktas tatha bhavyata eva sadbhiḥ
kintu prabhor yaḥ priya eva tasya
vande guroḥ sri-caranaravindam
uktas tatha bhavyata eva sadbhiḥ
kintu prabhor yaḥ priya eva tasya
vande guroḥ sri-caranaravindam
"The spiritual master is honored as much as God on account of his being the most confidential servant of the Lord. This is acknowledged in all revealed scriptures and is followed by all authorities. Therefore I offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of my spiritual master who is a bona fide representative of Sri Hari (Krsna)." (Sri Gurvastakam, 7th sloka)
Because of the mercy of the spiritual master we can actually make progress in knowledge. Real knowledge is knowledge of Krsna, Real knowledge means spiritual knowledge. Life is coming from spirit. And spirit is coming from God. Matter cannot produce independently. God is not a dead stone. But God is life.
Srila Prabhupada, in every town and village we vow to take this chanting of the Hare Krsna mantra and to expose the fake scientists who are saying that God is dead. This world is actually Krsna's and it should be used in Krsna's service; therefore we as Vaisnavas cannot sit back and let the world go to ruination.
We pray to the Supreme Lord that we will be able to carry out the mission of our spiritual master and to go home, back to Godhead, in this lifetime.
All Glories to Sri Guru and Gaurahga!
