Jaya Om Visnu-pada Paramahamsa Parivrajakacarya astottara-sata Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta-Tridanḍi-Gosvami-Maharaja-Prabhupada ki jaya!
With a humbled heart and prostrated obeisances we offer to thee this Vyasa-Pūja, an offering most deserved by one who represents Srila Vyasadeva, the original spiritual master. You are so mercifully making unfortunates fortunate with the message of devotional service. Sukadeva Goswami stated to Maharaja Pariksit the importance of hearing the Lord's pastimes in the twenty-ninth chapter of the fourth canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam;
"My dear King, one should stay at a place where the great acaryas (holy teachers) speak about the transcendental activities of the Lord, and one should give aural reception to the nectarean river flowing from the moonlike faces of such great personalities. If someone eagerly continues to hear such transcendental sounds, then certainly he will become free from all material hunger, thirst, fear, and lamentation, as well as the illusions of material existence."
So many times we, who are so weak, seem to neglect this most important service of hearing of the Lord's glorious pastimes, and in view of this fact, our hearts remain covered with the dust of conditional life. So now we take a little time to rectify this sad condition and pray to you, Gurudeva, that you'll bestow kindness upon us and give us an attraction for this purifying process. Our neglect is not any fault in the process. We thought ourselves as authorities, but now we seek refuge at your feet.
"O twice-born sages, by serving those devotees who are completely freed from all vice, great service is done. By such service, one gains affinity for hearing the messages of Vasudeva." (Bhag. 1.2.16)
It is only by this service unto you, Srila Prabhupada, that we may understand anything transcendental.
"Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because he has seen the truth." (Bg. 4.34)
"By regularly hearing the Bhagavatam and rendering service to the pure devotee, all that is troublesome to the heart is practically destroyed, and loving service unto the glorious Lord, who is praised with transcendental songs, is established as an irrevocable fact." (SB 1.2.18)
So this first and most important step to self-realization cannot be overemphasized. Just as sound is the first thing to rouse a sleeping man, so the transcendental sounds of the message of Lord Krsna and your ambrosial words can arouse our dormant Krsna consciousness.
And who can measure such kindness? Your pure transmission of the transcendental sound reaches every corner of this planet due to your selfless translatory efforts. Now sruti, smrti, purana and pancaratra are read in all parts of the globe, and nullify all past ideas of truth. You are teaching and distributing the highest gain, pure bhakti-yoga, and our service to the Lord becomes fixed by learning and distributing such literatures. Thank you Srila Prabhupada.
