nama om visnu-padaya krsna-presthaya bhū-tale
srimate bhaktivedanta-svamin iti namine

nirvisesa-sūnyavadi-pasatya-desa-tarine
om ajhana-timirandhasya jhanahjana-salakaya
caksur unmilitam yena tasmai sri-gurave namaḥ
Dear and most beloved Srila Prabhupada,
Srila Narottama dasa Thakura, the great acarya and poet of our Gauḍiya-Vaisnava-sampradaya, has perfectly described the position of the disciple in his complete dependence on the mercy of the Gurudeva:
yogyata-vicare, kichu nahi pai,
tomara karuna sara
karuna na hoile, kahdiya kahdiya,
prana na rakbhio ara
"If you examine me, you will find no qualities. Your mercy is all that I am made of. If you are not merciful unto me, I can only weep, and I will not be able to maintain my life."
Dear beloved Srila Prabhupada, it is only by your causeless mercy that we are still living, trying to serve your magnificent lotus feet, so dear to Sri Sri Radha-Manohara. We were in complete darkness, lost in a cave without any way out, tied to the walls by the heavy chains of sense gratification and sinful activities. But Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu Himself told you via the transparent medium of your spiritual master to come and deliver us.
It is also said in the Srimad-Bhagavatam (1.1.14):
apannaḥ samsrtim ghoram yan-nama vivaso grnan
tataḥ sadyo vimucyeta yad bibheti svayam bhayam
"Living beings who are entangled in the complicated meshes of birth and death can be freed immediately by even unconsciously chanting the holy name of Krsna, which is feared by fear personified."
You opened the locked doors of our dried hearts with the sunshine of your pure words to make us realize that Govinda, your eternal friend, is the only worshipable object of our lives, being the supreme friend, the supreme enjoyer, the supreme proprietor. And then again, by your divine mercy, you also bestow higher kindness to new devotees by becoming their grand-spiritual master. As everybody knows, the grandfather loves his grandchildren more than his own sons. Your love is ever growing in pure Krsna consciousness just to shower us with a drop from the ever-expanding ocean of krsna-prema.
As the dearmost servant of Sri Purusottama, the perfect person, you also reflect the unlimited opulences of beauty and knowledge of the Supreme through all your spotless deeds and words. Your entire life has been a song of glorification, an epic of unparalleled dedication and selfless service to the Supreme and to all mankind for all times. You embody every quality of the pure Vaisnava, the unalloyed servant and spokesman of Vasudeva. Your divine pastimes have left us awed and eternally indebted to your legacy of perfect knowledge preserved in all your books. Thus, by winding up you manifested pastimes, you have given all our children an impetus to take to heart your potent instructions, the sure road to the transcendental realm, where you are eternally and blissfully serving the supreme friend.
We pray that you bestow your boundless mercy on us, the most wretched and unintelligent, so that we may obtain a glimpse of your unlimited glories. Thus inspired, may we take to heart your perfect instructions, our only shelter and the source of all strength to lead us back home, back to Godhead. All glories to your divine instructions.
