ATLANTA-TENNESSEE FARM
All glories, all victory to Om Visnupada Paramahamsa Parivrajakacarya 108 Sri Srimad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who has translated the cream of the Vedic literatures into many languages on this planet for the first time. In his exquisite translations, he has not tolerated any statement which contradicts the proper conclusion of the Vedas, namely unmotivated and uninterrupted devotion in subordinate service to the Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krsna, the fountainhead of all other expansions and incarnations, and the source of the impersonal effulgence, the goal of the less intelligent impersonalists.
tvam naḥ sandarsito dhatra
dustaram nistitirsatam
kalim sattva-haram pumsam
karna-dhara ivarnavam
"We think that we have met Your Goodness by the will of providence, just so that we may accept you as captain of the ship for those who desire to cross the difficult ocean of Kali, which deteriorates all the good qualities of a human being." (Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.1.22)
The base upon which the spiritual master stands is his lotus feet, and this is the same base upon which the sincere and serious disciple builds his life's offering to the spiritual master. The lotus feet of the spiritual master also have dust upon them. This dust is the same as the wind which blows the sails of the boat above mentioned in its quest to cross the all-engulfing ocean of Kali-yuga. These most wanted dust particles of the lotus feet of the spiritual master are Srila Prabhupada's instructions. It is only when one is given the shade of the lotus feet of the spiritual master, and this dust falls upon the head of the conditioned soul, that such a fortunate entity becomes truly reenlivened. Without receiving the dust of the lotus feet of the pure devotee upon his head, the conditioned soul is not more than a zombie-living yet dead.
The life's offering of the disciple, which is always an incomplete attempt to pay his eternal debt to the spiritual master, may be likened unto the construction of a building. The finer and more elaborate the building the disciple is able to make, the better. Yet, it is also very important to carefully check to see that the construction has no inherent flaws in it, because, depending on the severity and the scope of such unwanted things, different degrees of pressure may inevitably destroy the building, either partially or totally. Without a base, the building will never last. If the base is set improperly, there will surely be cataclysm.
The lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada are the basis for the sincere and serious disciple to attain pure devotional service. Therefore, we offer our respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of the spiritual master. We know that pure devotional service is without material desires or aspirations. The bona fide disciple prays to Srila Prabhupada. The disciple wants to be like Srila Prabhupada in this regard, for the spiritual master can never become deluded into accepting a disguised material desire as a devotional initiative. The sincere and serious disciple knows well that attachment to the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada is the perfection that fulfills all spiritual desires. The dust of the lotus feet of the spiritual master is meant to purify the consciousness of the disciple, and the disciple's only desire is to have his consciousness purified by these instructions.
The wind for our sails, the dust of the spiritual master's lotus feet, also emanates from the lotus mouth of the spiritual master as his words of instruction. Srila Prabhupada has forever inscribed these words in his books. With these lotus words, the spiritual master opens the darkened eyes of the sincere and serious disciple, and such a disciple finds his heart filled with transcendental knowledge.
We must therefore stick to whatever the spiritual master orders. This is particularly the case when the spiritual master leaves. When the spiritual master is no longer physically existing, the disciple is in the association of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If we stick to the principle of following the words of Srila Prabhupada, we will eventually see the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
When a disciple experiences the loss of his spiritual master's physical presence, the disciple becomes bereaved and laments unabashedly. In such a condition, he may experience what appear to be inauspicious symptoms, types of shock, and bewilderment. He is anguished due to severe separation from the spiritual master and feels that the source of all happiness and mercy is forever gone.
When the disciple becomes perplexed about what to do in the absence of his spiritual master, the Supersoul immediately appears, provided that the disciple has purified his heart by following the instructions of the spiritual master. Actually, the disciple and Srila Prabhupada are never separated. The spiritual master keeps company with the disciple as long as he strictly adheres to the instructions of the spiritual master. The spiritual master is not different from the Supersoul within the heart. They are our intimate and eternal friends and guides. In this way, the sincere and serious disciple is always helped, either directly or indirectly, but thus pleasing both the spiritual master and the Supersoul. When the disciple becomes serious to follow the instructions of Srila Prabhupada, the disciple's resolution becomes tantamount to seeing the Supreme Personality of Godhead face to face, situated before the disciple. The second that this point is reached, we will immediately associate with Krsna.
As the authorized representative of the Supreme Lord, Srila Prabhupada established the principles of religion, which are Lord Krsna's instructions. As Lord Krsna, the Supersoul, and the spiritual master are all one in this connection, Srila Prabhupada's instructions are nondifferent and as good as Lord Krsna's instructions. But, when the spiritual master disappears, things once again become disordered, both within and without. When the disciple becomes perplexed about what to do in the absence of his spiritual master, the Supersoul immediately appears, provided that the disciple has purified his heart by following the instructions of the spiritual master. The perfect disciples try to rectify the situation by sincerely following the instructions of the spiritual master. The sincere and serious disciples take shelter of the lotus feet of the spiritual master. We may see many facades crumble from the base, we may see many facades crack due to inherent flaws within and see a number of quickly concocted constructions destined to be condemned. There is no recourse but to try to rectify the situation by truly taking shelter of the lotus feet of the spiritual master and bathe in the shower of the dust from them. Without this mercy of Srila Prabhupada, nobody can make any Srila Prabhupada advancement.
A fallen disciple may realize that he is not making any spiritual advancement. To once again regain his bearings, he will have to eradicate all flawed construction (in the event that it has not already been destroyed). He must return to the point where these deviations took root. It may even mean going all the way back to the very base of the project. As the raincloud is not selective in pouring its relieving rains everywhere, the dust of the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada is always falling everywhere. It can be had by anyone who is fortunate enough to recognize it and is properly motivated in the matter of its utilization. The dust of the lotus feet of the spiritual master is the only way by which we can attain pure devotional service.
If the fallen disciple cannot grab hold of this dust, he elects to die rather than fail to execute the spiritual master's instructions. It is the duty of the disciple to take charge of the mission of the spiritual master and execute it properly. Otherwise the disciple is not able to maintain his life.

O Jagad-guru, Srila Prabhupada. Please give to this servant just one drop of mercy. Let me be as you are, free from desires and aspirations. When will your mercy fall to such an unintelligent and weak disciple? Please allow me to be with you. In examining me, you will find no good qualities, as your mercy is all that I am made of. If you do not allow the dust of your lotus feet to fall upon me, I will not be able to maintain my wretched and unfortunate life.
All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gaurahga!
