Jayagovinda Dāsa Adhikārī

Captain of our ship, ablown
Across a stormy ocean,
Our master holds the calm
Within His hand, His fast devotion.

A crested peak above the skies,
From where a Lordships gaze
Descends in love to warm mens hearts,
Is answer to our prayers.

There is His eye above the mist,
And matters shimmering displays,
Unmoved by earths phantasmagoria
Absorbed in transcendence ways.

And now to us His mercy comes,
Adorn in our reflected face,
To lift us by His causeless love,
To our original place.

The world in every step will dance,
And tears on seeing shed;
When loves eyes bring us
On life's path to Absolute to tread.

Tho' mercy comes not by our strength
Nor by the little we've earned:
We spoil the fruit of Krsna's love,
By grasping yet unlearn'd.

Love is in the teachers words,
Not our conditioned hearts.
With swelling pride let us not fall,
But look to where love starts.

Disciplic line now given us,
Will give one a path,
Who seeks the Absolute
As Krsna in the Gita saith.

But love only hath our master
When down-bending by His grace,
He descends to our poor playground,
Bless us with His smiling face.
