Prabhupada: ... and even by that so-called sense you can save yourself also. That is so much [indistinct]. But you should not think in that way, you should know that we have to deposit hundred dollars and let us finish it as soon as possible without waiting for next life. That should be our business. But devotional service is so nice, even if you go a little percentage that will remain in your assets and it will give you another impetus. Not only that, how it will give you? Because you get next life, next life a favorable life for executing devotional service. Bharata Maharaja he became somehow or other a deer. But the opportunity was given to remember that, "I was King Bharata, for my little negligence I have become this deer." So he was remembering and he was always remaining with the devotees. So next life he got, he became again a brahmana and that was his last time he became delivered.
So we should be careful in this instance, that even Bharata Maharaja, he was so great, a little. I mean to say inattention obliged him to take a body of a deer although the process was going on, even in the deer's body-the process does not check. Otherwise how he gets next life, Jaḍa Bharata? The progress was going on. Therefore Bhaktivinoda Thakura says that: kita-janma hau jatha tuwa [Manasa Deha Geha, 5]. "If by some mistake or somewhere I have to take birth as an insignificant insect kindly allow me to become that insect in a devotee's house."
Because that will also utilize. In devotee's house if one becomes an insect somehow or other he eats prasadam, somehow or other he hears chanting, his life is...
Then: bahir-mukha brahma janme nahi asa, "I do not want to become a Brahma devoid. Devoid of Your devotional service." Let me, if I have to take, of course I do not say that I will have not have to take any birth. Caitanya Mahaprabhu says: mama janmani jamanisvare [Cc Antya 20.29]. "Let there be birth again and again but let me remain a devotee." That is to be awaited. Always there as a devotee. And that also said in the Bhagavad-gita:
sucinam srimatam gehe
yoga-bhrasto sanjayate
[Bg 6.41]
Even as an insect, even not as a human being, he is allowed to stay in a devotee's house-in a pure devotee's house. So there is all facilities but at the same time we should be very careful, we should not neglect this life and fall down, "We shall take chance another." No. That should not be an ideal. We should be very serious to finish this business, to deposit the hundred dollars-within this life. That is very nice. We shouldn't think that, "Alright, my this portion will be taken into account, so alright, let us try to devote another portion next life, another portion the next life." This [laughs] is all nonsense, why should you misuse your life in that way? Finish this business in this life. Little, preliminary little inconvenience to follow the rules and regulations, that is called tapasya. Tapasya means: "Voluntarily accepting some inconvenience." Voluntarily, that is called tapasya.
Just like brahmacari, that is voluntary tapasya. Outside the spiritual master's abode he can earn very nicely. He can enjoy life like nicely but he comes to the spiritual master's house and, lie down on the floor and no good foodstuffs, no nothing. Then why? That is tapasya, tapo divyam, tapasya. That is advised, "My dear boys," Bharata Maharaja, that Rsabhadeva advised that, "This life is for tapasya, not to be carried away by the waves of maya." Tapasya, tapo divyam. Brahma also had tapasya. So in the material world the more we undergo tapasya voluntarily accept all kinds of inconvenience for the matter of executing devotional service. That is required. That is required.
Everything regulated but so far we are concerned our tapasya is not very difficult simply little regulated-that's all. Otherwise for Mayavadi sannyasis, yogis, they have got very severe type of tapasya. Yogis have to go to the jungles and Himalaya and sit down in a secluded place and stretch like that and so many rules and regulations. Who is going to follow those rules and regulations? It is not possible all this tribulations in this age even going to Himalayas. That's not possible. Therefore: kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha You can not follow any other rules and regulations for emancipation, this only method, Hare Krsna In this life you can go back. Hm. [end]
