ACK: Where to Get Essential Ingredients

Where to Get Essential Ingredients
Most of the ingredients mentioned in this book should be easy to find. Ethnic grocery stores and health food shops of all descriptions are opening in cities all over the map, and as the public's interest in better health increases, a wide selection of wholesome products is appearing on the shelves of ordinary supermarkets.
Asafoetida, black mustard seeds, black cumin seeds, curry leaves, tamarind, and other hard-to-find spices and seasonings are available in Indian or Pakistani grocery stores. Most of these shops also carry a variety of Indian utensils and cooking tools. If the nearest Indian grocery store is too far, try to find one who will supply spices and other items by post. You can also find whole grains, dal, chick-pea flour, and unrefined sugars at Asian grocery stores and most health food shops. Check around for the best prices. You can save money by buying goods in large quantities or from wholesalers.
For information about where to get essential ingredients at good prices, you are always welcome to contact the Hare Krsna temple nearest you. If you can, drop by to meet the devotees and taste their cooking. You'll find a list of our temples, farm communities, and our restaurants in the next appendix.
