Room Conversation with Jaidayal Dalmia – November 2, 1977, Vṛndāvana

Krsna personally speaking, and 'He is consciousness.'

Prabhupada: Jaya. [Transl. Your health is okay?]

Jaidayal Dalmia: [Transl. Your body has become very weak.]

Prabhupada: Jaya. [Transl. Sit down. What happened in the conference?]

Jaidayal Dalmia: [Transl. There was a Gita conference arranged by the people of Wardha, I came for that.]

Prabhupada: Jaya. [Transl. Yes. What was passed?]

Jaidayal Dalmia: [Transl. It was passed that all people together, those who preach Bhagavad-gita, they should together preach and spread the message of Bhagavad-gita as much as possible. And there should be reconciliation among all.]

Prabhupada: Jaya. [Transl. But does it happen? Does it happen?]

Jaidayal Dalmia: [Transl. Let us see whatever little we can do.]

Prabhupada: [Transl. Sit down. So much preaching is necessary. People are looking for this in the whole world] There is good demand all over the world. [Transl. By distorting the actual meaning, they say.] "Krsna is not person; Krsna is consciousness." [Transl. What will you gain by doing this?] Krsna personally speaking, and "He is consciousness." He says, yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata [Bg 4.7]: "I come down." [Transl. And these people don't accept it. They write topsy-turvy commentaries and personal opinions.] Mayavadi. Caitanya Mahaprabhu has condemned, mayavadi-bhasya sunile haya sarva-nasa [Cc Madhya 6.169]. This is stated in Caitanya-caritamrta. [Transl. Their commentary is Mayavada or impersonalism. What is the use of that?] Yogaḥ proktaḥ puratanaḥ [Bg 4.3]. Krsna said that, "I am speaking to you the old yoga system." [Transl. These people are giving new and personal interpretations. What kind of people they are?]

[break] Krsna is person. Where is that verse in the Tenth Canto?

Tamala Krsna: In the Bhagavad-gita?

Prabhupada: Param brahma param dhama pavitram paramam bhavan [Bg 10.12].

Jayadvaita: Tenth Chapter.

Tamala Krsna:

Prabhupada: Purusam sasvatam. Govindam adi-purusam.

[break] This is understanding of Bhagavad-gita. But they'll not do that. What can be done? They cannot preach Bhagavad-gita. Sarvam etad rtam manye [Bg 10.14].

Tamala Krsna: Yan mam vadasi kesava, na hi te bhagavan vyaktim vidur deva na danavaḥ.

Prabhupada: Ah. [Transl. His personality, neither the demigods know nor the demons know.] "I have come personally." Yada yada hi dharmasya [Bg 4.7]. Bhagavad-gita. [Transl. This is Bhagavad-gita. What is the use of speaking nonsense? That is why nothing was accomplished. But some how or other we have presented Bhagavad-gita As it is. It is distributed all over the world. If something is prepared with pure ghee, there will be demand for that. And if it is made of impure Dalda [Vegetable oil], then it will go only for few days. There is a shop in Delhi where they sell items made of pure ghee. That shop is always crowded. And the price is also very high. And people buy. So Bhagavad-gita As It Is should be presented. Then it will certainly work. And someone will say imagination, someone will say this, someone will say that. What is the gain of all that?] Simply waste of time. Srama eva hi kevalam [SB 1.2.8].

Vasudeve bhagavati bhakti-yogaḥ prayojitaḥ, janayaty asu vairagyam [SB 1.2.7]. Janayaty asu vairagyam. [Transl. Rejecting all these scriptural statements.] Yaḥ sastra-vidhim utsrjya vartate kama-karataḥ, na siddhim savapnoti [Bg 16.23]. [Transl. One who discards scriptural injunctions, he will never achieve perfection of life. Srama eva hi kevalam. [Transl. He will simply labor hard. These are the facts. Aurobindo has said this, that person has said that, another person has said something, all that ...Hmm.]

Jaidayal Dalmia: [Transl. You don't take strain, speak less. You are feeling very weak.]

Prabhupada: [Transl. No, you all are experienced persons. Pay little attention to this and it will be a great help for us. That's all. You have the capacity and desire also. Also you are a devotee. This is our endeavor.] There is good demand all over the world. [Transl. People should be trained and sent. They will accept it so much. These devotees here, their fathers and grandfathers have never even heard the name of Krsna. But now. These Americans, ladies often ask-Are you American? They become surprise. For the sake of the Supreme Lord Krsna they sacrificed everything.] Nobody can turn them now.

Jaidayal Dalmia: Jaya. Jaya.

Prabhupada: Jaya. Thank you very much.

Bhakti-caru: [Transl. Srila Prabhupada, may I give you some medicine now? This is the last medicine for today.] [end]
