kahan sarvasva veci' laya, deya na yaya kaudi!
kahan dviguna vartana, paraya neta-dhadi!
SYNONYMS
kahanon one hand; sarvasvaall possessions; veci'-selling; layatakes; deya na yayacannot be paid; kaudithe debt; kahanon the other hand; dviguna vartanatwice the salary; parayaputs on; neta-dhadithe silken cover.
TRANSLATION
On one hand Gopinatha Pattanayaka was unable to clear his debt even by selling all his possessions, but on the other his salary was doubled, and he was honored with the silken wrapper.
