Imported quote 16283 There are two kinds of energy-material and spiritual. Jivas, or individual souls, belong to the superior energy of Krsna, but because they are prone to be attracted to the material energy, they are called marginal energy. But actually there are only two energies. All of the planetary systems and universes are resting on the energies of Krsna. Just as all the planets in the solar system are resting in the sunshine, everything within the creation is resting on Krsna-shine. All of these potencies of the Lord give pleasure to a devotee, but one who is envious of Krsna rejects them. When one is a nondevotee, the statements of Krsna seem to be so much bluff, but when one is a devotee, he thinks, "Oh, my Lord is so powerful," and he becomes filled with love and adoration. Nondevotees think that because Krsna says, "I am God," they and everyone else can say the same. But if asked to show their universal form, they cannot do it. That is the difference between a pseudo god and the real God. Krsna's pastimes cannot be imitated. Krsna married over 16,000 wives and kept them nicely in 16,000 palaces, but an ordinary man cannot even keep one wife nicely. It is not that Krsna just spoke so many wonderful things; He also acted wonderfully. We should not believe one thing that Krsna says or does and reject another; if belief is there, it must be full belief.
(More...) So the Vedic injunction, tattva-jijnasa, that is the first aphorism in the Vedanta-sūtra. Athato brahma-jijnasaḥ: "The human form of life is meant for inquiring about the Absolute Truth." Therefore Bhagavata explains, jivasya tattva-jijnasa. That is the explanation of Brahma-sūtra. Therefore you will find at the end of each chapter of Srimad-Bhagavatam, srimad-bhagavate maha-purane brahma-sūtra-bhasye. The Srimad-Bhagavatam is the real comment on Brahma-sūtra, Vedanta-sūtra. Vedanta-sūtra was compiled by Vyasadeva. He summarized all the Vedic knowledge, summarized all Vedic knowledge into Brahma-sūtra, in nutshell. Then he was not satisfied, although he made so many Puranas, Mahabharata, Brahma-sutra, Upanisads and... Means these were correct. He wrote into letters in the book. Being compassionate on the people of this age, all fools and rascals-they have no good memory-therefore he compiled all these Vedas into writing. Before that, there was no writing. People were so sharp in memory, simply by hearing from the guru, they will remember. Simply. The education and the brain and the capacity was so nice. So that is not possible in the age. Everything is diminishing. The strength, bodily strength, is diminishing. The memory is diminishing. The duration of life is diminishing. Man's propensity to be merciful is diminishing. At the present moment, even in the civilized world, so-called civilized, if one man is being killed on the open street, nobody will go and help him, because the tendency for showing mercy to others, that is diminishing. And bodily strength is diminishing. Memory is diminishing. Dharma, the principle of religion, that is diminishing. This is called Kali-yuga. Therefore brahma-jijnasa.
(More...) Brahma dasa took the opportunity to explain, "We want to show how the big leaders have systematically conditioned ordinary people to search for happiness under a completely false conception of life. They have directed people toward acquiring useless paraphernalia that only drives them deeper into the realm of hopelessness. The leaders are misguiding everyone into thinking that advancement means concrete, steel, money, and the selfish pursuit of pleasure. As a result, everyone feels constantly driven and repeatedly frustrated by an unending network of artificial desires. And, of course, that mentality simply results in crime, poverty, and social unrest. Then the masses-and even the so-called leaders-try to shelter themselves from despair with alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, pornography, and so forth. We should rise to a higher state of consciousness and happiness. Unless we realize that the real goal of life is God consciousness, we will never achieve any real advancement-only a shadow advancement that leads to chaos and destruction."
