no material desires

Imported quote 14995
The word santa means completely peaceful. Unless all one's desires are fulfilled, one cannot be peaceful. Everyone is trying to fulfill his aspirations and desires, be they material or spiritual. Those in the material world are asanta (without peace) because they have so many desires to fulfill. The pure devotee, however, is without desire. Anyabhilasita-sūnya: a pure devotee is completely free from all kinds of material desire. Karmis, on the other hand, are simply full of desires because they try to enjoy sense gratification. They are not peaceful in this life, nor the next, during the past, present or future. Similarly, jnanis are always aspiring after liberation and trying to become one with the Supreme. Yogis are aspiring after many siddhis (powers)-anima, laghima, prapti, etc. However, a devotee is not at all interested in these things because he is fully dependent on the mercy of Krsna. Krsna is yogesvara, the possessor of all mystic powers (siddhis), and He is atmarama, fully self-satisfied. The yoga-siddhis are described in this verse. One can fly in outer space without the aid of a machine, and he can travel at the speed of mind. This means that as soon as a yogi desires to go somewhere within this universe or even beyond this universe, he can do so immediately. One cannot estimate the speed of mind, for within a second the mind can go many millions of miles. Sometimes yogis enter into the bodies of other people and act as they desire when their bodies are not working properly. When the body becomes old, a perfect yogi can find a young, able body. Giving up his old body, the yogi can enter into the young body and act as he pleases. Being a plenary expansion of Lord Vasudeva, Lord Rsabhadeva possessed all these mystic yoga powers, but He was satisfied with His devotional love of Krsna, which was evinced by the ecstatic symptoms, such as crying, laughing and shivering.    (More...)

So he was akincana. So similarly... Just like Ramananda Raya. He was grhastha, very opulent, governor. He is also akincana because nothing was possessed by personal; everything for Jagannatha. This is the distinction. On one side, Rūpa Gosvami, and one side, Ramananda Raya. And Ramananda Raya is the most confidential devotee of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, although he's a grhastha, because he is akincana, as akincana as Rūpa Gosvami. So we have to become akincana. Akincana. Then we shall realize Krsna. Therefore it is said, akincana-gocaram: "You are understandable only by a person who does not possess so-called material opulence." So we should always remember that whatever we are trying for material..., it is all for Krsna, nothing for us, so that people may... Big, gorgeous temple means people will be attracted to come here, and we'll distribute Krsna's prasadam. The aim is some way or other to turn them, to convert them into Krsna consciousness. Then you remain akincana. And if we think that "We have got now very big house. We shall live comfortably and sleep comfortably," then na gocaram, then Krsna will not be realized. Then that comfort will be realized only, not Krsna. Akincana-gocaram. We should always remember this. This is... Kunti devi is saying, tvam akincana-gocaram [SB 1.8.26].    (More...)

So when you address somebody, you want to ask something. So if they reply, "Yes, why you are calling?" then we're calling, "Please engage me in Your service." This is the prayer, not that "Give me money" or "Give me beautiful wife" or "many followers." This is material hankering. Everyone wants some prestigious position, labha, pūja, pratistha, some material profit, labha, and prestigious position so that people will give him salaam, minister, president, and to become very famous, historically very famous. These are material hankerings. But Caitanya Mahaprabhu says, "No." Na dhanam na janam na sundarim kavitam va jagad-isa kamaye . We don't want. This is animitta bhakti. Nimitta, for some certain reason, if you become a bhakta, then you are not a suddha-bhakta. You are a viddha-bhakta, a polluted bhakta. Pure bhakti is anyabhilasita-sūnyam [Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.1.11], zero. Material hankerings, anything material hankering, should be void.    (More...)

So that is the devotional position. Therefore it is said, atho vibhūtim mama mayavinas tam aisvaryam astahgam anupravrttam, sriyam bhagavatim vasprhayanti bhadram. The devotees do not aspire for all these opulences. Their only aspiration is, ambition is, how to be engaged in the service of the Lord. How to be engaged. That is their... And in that way they get everything. There is no difference. When you worship Krsna-man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru [Bg 18.65], mam evaisyasi-so he has already gone. There is no difference, the worshiping of the Lord here and there. Just like in politics sometime-these are some of the examples-that in a foreign country, when you are staying in your ship, then you are not subjected to the rules of that country; you are subjected to the rules of your own country. Similarly, so long you are in devotional service, you are not subjected to the rules and regulation of this maya. Mayam etam taranti te [Bg 7.14]. Mayam etam... Mam eva ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te. Anyone who is not devotee, who is not engaged in the service of the Lord, he is under the control of maya. And anyone who has surrendered to Krsna and is simply twenty-four hours engaged in the service of Krsna, he is not under the control of maya. Mayam etam taranti te. Krsna says.    (More...)
So therefore a devotee is not aspiring of any so-called material opulence, even astahga-siddhi. Here it is said, aisvaryam astahgam anupravrttam. Astahga-siddhi... The yogis, those who are actually yogi, they get astahga-siddhi, not these cheap yogis, gymnastic. No. The asana, gymnastic, that is all right. That is the process only to go to the yogic platform. But when one actually on the yogic platform, he gets siddhis. Siddhis means perfection: anima, laghima..., anima, laghima, mahima, prapti, isita, vasita, like that. He can become smaller than the smallest. That is anima-siddhi. Some of the yogis, they can... You keep him within the room, locked up, and he'll come out. Because as soon as there is little let out, he'll come out. That is called anima-siddhi. Laghima-siddhi. You can walk... By achieving this la..., you can walk on the water. You become... You can fly in the air. You can go from one planet to another by flying. You can go to the moon planet or sun planet by capturing the beams. That is called mahima-siddhi. There are so many siddhis. You can create even one universe. Not this magic, little gold, but you can create not universe, one planet. These are said.    (More...)

Pure devotees, as we have explained yesterday, they do not want anything from God. Even liberation they do not want, what to speak of this material... Therefore the philosophy of becoming the father of Krsna is very perfect. Because one hasn't got to ask, like the son asks from the father, "Father, give me this, give me this." Because devotee want..., doesn't want to ask anything from. Then how he can become son? Son business is to ask from father. Therefore they do not aspire to become the son of Godhead, but they aspire to be father of Godhead. This is perfection-Nanda Maharaja, father, Vasudeva, father. Krsna will always ask. Just like Krsna is always asking to suck the breast of Mother Yasoda. Always demanding. And if she refuses, she'll [He'll] create disturbance. And Mother Yasoda is always thinking that "If I do not feed Krsna nicely, He'll die." This is love. This is love. Therefore it is said that yesam aham priya atma sutas ca. The devotee accept Krsna as suta, as son, not as father. Father means exacting.    (More...)
