Imported quote 12821 Devotional service is so perfect that simply by following the rules and regulations and executing them under the direction of the spiritual master, one is liberated, as it is said herein, from the clutches of maya, even in this body. In other yogic processes, or in empiric philosophical speculation, one is never certain whether or not he is at the perfectional stage. But in the discharge of devotional service, if one has unflinching faith in the instruction of the bona fide spiritual master and follows the rules and regulations, he is sure to be liberated, even within this present body. Srila Rūpa Gosvami, in the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, has also confirmed this. Īha yasya harer dasye: anyone whose only aim is to serve the Supreme Lord under the direction of the spiritual master, regardless of where he is situated, is called jivan-mukta, or one who is liberated even with his material body. Sometimes doubts arise in the minds of neophytes about whether or not the spiritual master is liberated, and sometimes neophytes are doubtful about the bodily affairs of the spiritual master. The point of liberation, however, is not to see the bodily symptoms of the spiritual master. One has to see the spiritual symptoms of the spiritual master. Jivan-mukta means that even though one is in the material body (there are still some material necessities, since the body is material), because one is fully situated in the service of the Lord, he is to be understood to be liberated.
(More...) Liberation entails being situated in one's own position. That is the definition in the Srimad-Bhagavatam: muktir. .. svarūpena vyavasthitiḥ. The svarūpa, or actual identity of the living entity, is described by Lord Caitanya. Jivera 'svarūpa' haya-krsnera 'nitya-dasa': the real identity of the living entity is that he is eternally a servitor of the Supreme Lord. If someone is one hundred percent engaged in the service of the Lord, he is to be understood as liberated. One must understand whether or not he is liberated by his activities in devotional service, not by other symptoms.

Imported quote 13881 When the spiritual spark, which is described as one ten-thousandth part of the tip of a hair, is forced into material existence, that spark is covered by gross and subtle material elements. The material body is composed of five gross elements-earth, water, fire, air and ether-and three subtle elements-mind, intelligence and ego. When one attains liberation, he is freed from these material coverings. Indeed, success in yoga involves getting free from these material coverings and entering into spiritual existence. Lord Buddha's teachings of nirvana are based on this principle. Lord Buddha instructed his followers to give up these material coverings by means of meditation and yoga. Lord Buddha did not give any information about the soul, but if one follows his instructions strictly, he will ultimately become free from the material coverings and attain nirvana.
(More...) Imported quote 14128 Mukti or liberation means becoming free from the results of fruitive activities. As stated in Srimad-Bhagavatam: muktir hitvanyatha-rūpam. Mukti means giving up all other activities, and svarupena vyavasthitiḥ means being situated in one's constitutional position. (Bhag. 2.10.6) In this conditional state we are entangled by one fruitive activity after another. Karma-bandhana means the bonds of fruitive activity. As long as one's mind is absorbed in fruitive activities, he has to manufacture plans for happiness. The bhakti-yoga process is different, for bhakti-yoga means acting according to the order of the supreme authority. When we act under the direction of supreme authority, we do not become entangled by fruitive results. For instance, Arjuna fought because the Supreme Personality of Godhead wanted him to; therefore he was not responsible for the outcome of the fighting. As far as devotional service is concerned, even hearing and chanting is as good as acting with our body, mind and senses. Actually hearing and chanting are also activities of the senses. When the senses are utilized for one's own sense gratification, they entangle one in karma, but when they are used for the satisfaction of the Lord, they establish one in bhakti.
(More...) Imported quote 14838 "I am seated in everyone's heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness." It is not a fact, however, that the Supreme Personality of Godhead gives direction to certain living entities in one way and other living entities in another way. The truth is that every living entity has a certain desire, and the Supreme Lord gives him a chance to fulfill it. The best course, therefore, is to surrender unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead and act according to His desire. One who does so is liberated.
(More...) Imported quote 14848 "Regardless of one's circumstances, if one fully engages his activities, mind and words in the devotional service of the Lord, he should be understood to be a liberated person." Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura was a responsible officer and a householder, yet his service to the cause of expanding the mission of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu is unique. Srila Prabodhananda Sarasvati Thakura says, durdantendriya-kala-sarpa-patali protkhata-damstrayate. The sense organs are certainly our greatest enemies, and they are therefore compared to venomous serpents. However, if a venomous serpent is bereft of its poison fangs, it is no longer fearful. Similarly, if the senses are engaged in the service of the Lord, there is no need to fear their activities. The devotees in the Krsna consciousness movement move within this material world, but because their senses are fully engaged in the service of the Lord, they are always aloof from the material world. They are always living in a transcendental position.
(More...) Imported quote 16862 Now, our attachment is on account of these designation. What is that designation? "I am American," "I am Englishman," "I am Indian." These are all designation, because the soul is neither Indian nor American nor this nor that. Soul is pure, pure spirit soul. These are material designation, according to the body. So if we become purified, sarva upadhi-vinirmuktam, that is called mukti. Mukti, the definition of mukti, means hitva anyatha rūpam svarūpena vyavasthitiḥ [SB 2.10.6].
(More...) Imported quote 17110 So when we come to this platform of knowledge, that daivi sampad vimoksaya, then you become liberated immediately. Liberation means who come to the platform of real knowledge. That is called liberation. That is the definition given in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, what is liberation, mukti. It is said, muktir hitva anyatha rūpam svarūpena vyavasthitiḥ [SB 2.10.6]. Hitva means giving up. Mukti means hitva, giving up, hitva anyatha rūpam, something otherwise. I am spirit soul. I am thinking, "I am American." I am thinking, "I am Indian." This is anyatha rūpam. That is not the real conception of life. Real conception of life is aham brahmasmi: "I am the spirit soul, part and parcel of Krsna." That is realization. That is called self-realization.
(More...) So therefore it is said, daivi sampad vimoksaya. Moksa, moksa means liberation. If you develop this daivi sampat, then you become fit for becoming liberated, because our... What is the position? Why you are suffering? Why we are dying? Why you are taking birth? Why you are becoming old? On account of this material body. This is knowledge. Jnana-vairagya. Jnana-vairagya-yuktaya [SB 1.2.12]. Jnana and vairagya, these things are required. That is daivi sampat. All the daivi sampat means jnana-yoga. It is immediately analyzed[?]. Abhayam sattva-samsuddhir jnana-yoga-vyavasthitiḥ. This is possible when you are situated on the platform of knowledge. This is knowledge, that "I am spirit soul. I am falsely identifying myself with this body. The body is the source of my all suffering and entanglement." This is knowledge. Then, when we try to give up the ignorance of bodily concept of life, then we become gradually liberated.
(More...) So mukti means... That is mukti. When we are not servant of the dictation of the senses, that is called mukti. So long we remain servant and obliged to perform according to the dictation of the senses, then I am go-dasa-on the material field, go-dasa, or under the spell of the material energy, servant of the material energy. Daivi hy esa guna-mayi mama maya... [Bg 7.14]. The maya, the prakrti, is dictating. Prakrteḥ kriyamanani gunaiḥ karmani sarvasaḥ [Bg 3.27]. Dictating means you voluntarily become subjected to the dictation of this material nature. She cannot dictate if you are strong. But if you agree that "I shall be dictated by you," then you become dictated. Just like a disease. If you infect the disease, then you must suffer. But if you remain very fit, competent, not to be infected by the germs of the disease, you are not diseased. This is the way.
(More...) Imported quote 18040 As Krsna says, vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyaḥ [Bg 15.15]. By the study of Vedas, if you have attained perfection, then you should know what is Krsna. Krsna also said. Yatatam api siddhanam [Bg 7.3]. Siddha means those who are liberated. Liberated means who have no more the bodily concept of life. They are called liberated, brahma-bhūta. Prasannatma. So long one is in the bodily concept of life, he's conditioned. He's conditioned; he's not liberated. And when one understands fully that he's not this body, he's pure soul, aham brahmasmi, when he realizes, then that stage is called liberated. So liberated stage is not final. If you simply understand that you are not this body, you are spirit soul, that is not sufficient. You must act as Brahman. You must act as Brahman. Then you will stay.
(More...) Imported quote 18234 So this is the philosophy to understand, that asevayayam prakrter gunanam. We have to learn how to forget to serve this material nature. That is bhakti-marga. It is forced, because we have... Krsna-bhuliya jiva bhoga vancha kare [Prema-vivarta].
(More...) Imported quote 18705 Prabhupada: Cittete koriya aikya, ar na koriho mane asa. That is liberation. Otherwise, we shall be implicated. And what guru says? Guru says the same thing as Krsna says. That is guru. Krsna says, sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja [Bg 18.66]. Krsna also... Guru also says the same thing. That is guru's business, that "You surrender to Krsna and fully be engaged in Krsna's service." So therefore Narottama dasa Thakura advises, "Take this very seriously." Ar na koriho mane asa: "No more. Stop any other desires." Then your life is successful. Ar na koriho mane asa.
(More...) Mukti or liberation means freedom from material consciousness. When we are materially contaminated, we are called conditioned. False consciousness is exhibited under the impression that I am a product of material nature. This is called false ego. One who is absorbed in the thought of bodily conceptions cannot understand his situation. Bhagavad-gita was spoken to liberate one from the bodily conception of life, and Arjuna put himself in this position in order to receive this information from the Lord. One must become free from the bodily conception of life; that is the preliminary activity for the transcendentalist. One who wants to become free, who wants to become liberated, must first of all learn that he is not this material body. Mukti or liberation means freedom from material consciousness. In the Srimad-Bhagavatam [2.10.6] also the definition of liberation is given: Mukti means liberation from the contaminated consciousness of this material world and situation in pure consciousness. All the instructions of Bhagavad-gita are intended to awaken this pure consciousness, and therefore we find at the last stage of the Gita's [18.72] instructions that Krsna is asking Arjuna whether he is now in purified consciousness. Purified consciousness means acting in accordance with the instructions of the Lord. This is the whole sum and substance of purified consciousness. Consciousness is already there because we are part and parcel of the Lord, but for us there is the affinity of being affected by the inferior modes. But the Lord, being the Supreme, is never affected. That is the difference between the Supreme Lord and the conditioned souls.
(More...) Samādhi means "fixed mind." Samadhi means "fixed mind." The Vedic dictionary, the Nirukti, says, samyag adhiyate 'sminn atmatattva-yathatmyam: "When the mind is fixed for understanding the self, it is called samadhi." Samadhi is never possible for persons interested in material sense enjoyment, nor for those who are bewildered by such temporary things. They are more or less condemned by the process of material energy.
(More...) "In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination for devotional service to the Supreme Lord does not take place." Those who are attached to material enjoyment cannot be fixed in devotional service to the Lord. They cannot understand Bhagavan, Krsna, or His instruction, Bhagavad-gita. Adanta-gobhir visatam tamisram: their path actually leads toward hellish life.
(More...) To say that one is in samādhi is to say that one has fully realized Kṛṣṇa consciousness; that is, one in full samādhi has realized Brahman, Paramātmā and Bhagavān. To say that one is in samadhi is to say that one has fully realized Krsna consciousness; that is, one in full samadhi has realized Brahman, Paramatma and Bhagavan. The highest perfection of self-realization is to understand that one is eternally the servitor of Krsna and that one's only business is to discharge one's duties in Krsna consciousness. A Krsna conscious person, or unflinching devotee of the Lord, should not be disturbed by the flowery language of the Vedas nor be engaged in fruitive activities for promotion to the heavenly kingdom. In Krsna consciousness, one comes directly into communion with Krsna, and thus all directions from Krsna may be understood in that transcendental state. One is sure to achieve results by such activities and attain conclusive knowledge. One has only to carry out the orders of Krsna or His representative, the spiritual master.
(More...) When the living entity becomes free from the influence of the illusory material energy, he attains the stage called mukti, or liberation. The Supreme Lord Krsna is the only controller, and all living entities are controlled by Him. These living entities are His superior energy because the quality of their existence is one and the same with the Supreme, but they are never equal to the Lord in quantity of power. While exploiting the gross and subtle inferior energy (matter), the superior energy (the living entity) forgets his real spiritual mind and intelligence. This forgetfulness is due to the influence of matter upon the living entity. But when the living entity becomes free from the influence of the illusory material energy, he attains the stage called mukti, or liberation. The false ego, under the influence of material illusion, thinks, "I am matter, and material acquisitions are mine." His actual position is realized when he is liberated from all material ideas, including the conception of his becoming one in all respects with God. Therefore one may conclude that the Gita confirms the living entity to be only one of the multi-energies of Krsna; and when this energy is freed from material contamination, it becomes fully Krsna conscious, or liberated.
