Prabhupada: Explain in English!
Tamala Krsna: Explain in English what he said.
Vrajavasi: About the Deity?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Tamala Krsna: When the curtain opens?
Vrajavasi: Ha.
Tamala Krsna: Ah, Prabhupada. What is the name of this temple? Nanda-grama?
Prabhupada: [to vrajavasi] You cannot explain? You can explain what he has said?
Vrajavasi: I will explain. When the curtain opens, I will explain.
Prabhupada: Ha.
Vrajavasi: [Transl. All of you sit down. Sit down here.]

Vrajavasi: [Transl. Just a second.]
Vrajavasi (2): [Transl. Maharaja will distribute.]
Tamala Krsna: So fortunate.
Vrajavasi: Certificate. Put it there.
Vrajavasi (2): [Transl. Keep visiting the temple.]
Tamala Krsna: I'm just taking a little?
[breaks] Everybody got prasada?

Prabhupada: …doing these same things.
Tamala Krsna: Ah.
Prabhupada: [kirtana in background; [Transl. Why don't you tell them?]

Prabhupada: They have not come? It will be late. Why they did not come?
Tamala Krsna: They did not ask my permission. They just went. One man got his shoes. He had to go back to get his shoes.
Prabhupada: Oh, he'll go back there?
Vrajavasi: He went after him. He will be returning in a few miniutes. [break]
Prabhupada: Not possible to see the Deity there.
Devotee: What time do they close the Deity?
Prabhupada: Yes. Eleven.
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Are you going to that side by the way? Blow horn loudly please.]
[Hindi background conversation] [loud car horn sounding]
[Transl. Please come on sir. Come on.]
Prabhupada: This old man should not be allowed. He cannot walk. [break]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Please come quickly, Maharaja. You come in from this side.] [break]
Prabhupada: Come on, come on. Now let us go.
Devotee: Deity closes in another ten minutes.
[bus starts; Prabhupada leaves in bus; obeisances]
Vrajavasis & Devotees: Srila Prabhupada ki jaya! Nanda Maharaja ki jaya! Vrndavana Biharilal ki jaya! [break]
[in Barsana; Hindi conversations]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. We have to climb up 200 steps.] Shall we bring a chair for you?
Prabhupada: [Transl. 200 steps?]
Indian: [Transl. There is tahga: [horse-cart] available.]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Svamiji, there is palanquin. That is better for you. You go little forward you will find it.]
Indian: [Transl. What about a ricksaw from here?]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. A palanquin or a basket would be fine.]
Syamasundara: What is the history of this place, Srila Prabhupada?
Prabhupada: This is Radharani's father's place.
Syamasundara: Ah. [break] [kirtana]
Tamala Krsna: Prabhupada, have you ever gone to this temple? [break]
Dr. Kapoor: And Her marriage was near about, Nanda-grama.
Prabhupada: That's far away.
Local panda: [Transl. Should I take you for darsana? Let others come later.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Will go just now.] [break]
Prabhupada: He will take us to [indistinct].
Syamasundara: Our guide. Where is our guide?
Tamala Krsna: What is happening now? [break]
Prabhupada: …not available; then you can go. I can sit down here. My first time. Where is that guide? Where is that man?
Syamasundara: They say he went to get the palanquin. He is coming down. [break]
Indian: [Transl. There he comes. He is coming.] [break]
[in another temple location; kirtana]
Devotee: Okay. Wait a minute. Stop.
Prabhupada: Make it here. I can walk.
Devotee: Okay. Stop here.
Tamala Krsna: Down. Down, down, down.
Devotees: Jaya. All glories to Prabhupada!
Prabhupada: Jaya!
Tamala Krsna: It's this way, I think. It's a little wet here, Prabhupada.
Devotees: Jaya! All glories to your divine grace. Srila Prabhupada ki jaya!
[obeisances] [background conversation between devotees] [kirtana] [break]
Prabhupada: Give him one rupee.
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Give something for Radharani's bhoga.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. We gave. Two, three rupees we gave.]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. One for there one for here. If you give to Radha your life will be successful.]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. Now give us prasada.]
Tamala Krsna: All right, just… [break] One rupee? One rupee.
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Take one more my boy.]
Prabhupada: Now let us go.
Devotee: Prasada. Let us go.
Dr. Kapoor: The guide was telling Prabhupada that we can go upstairs also.
Prabhupada: [Transl. What is there upstairs?]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. From upstairs you can view the whole area around.]
[break] [background conversation among devotees] [break]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. Give us some donations, please Baba.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Give five rupees.]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. Please Baba, eleven rupees.]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. No, five.]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. Eleven please. Ok. As you like.]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. Do not fight.]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. No fighting. How you are speaking? Being an educated person you are…]
Prabhupada: [Transl. How much should we give him?]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. That's what I am asking? Yes, brother, how much you want?]
Vrajavasis (2): [Transl. When they go down they can give.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. No, this man brought us upstairs. And why you are taking the empty one back?]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. You brought him up, no?]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. Yes.]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. Tell how much you want?]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. After he goes down I will tell.]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. Tell now for both. Finish the problem.]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. Total give me five and half rupees.]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. We will give you two rupees only.]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. Then palanquin will not go. Give three rupees. I am working hard and I should get that much.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. What do you want?]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. He will take at least three or four rupees. After all he is also serving. All right let him…]
Devotee: ...if they get hold of the tape recorder, they'll steal it. [break]
Prabhupada: [Transl. This is Jaipur House?]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. The Maharaja of Jaipur had built it.]
[indistinct discussion among devotees.]
[kirtana-Govindam prayers]
Prabhupada: Jaya.
Dr. Kapoor: She's gone to Radha's village. That's why. But...
Tamala Krsna: It's closed.
Devotee: Open it up.
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. What time will it open, panḍitji?]
Panḍitji: [Transl. 4 o clock.]
[discussion about opening Deity doors]
Devotee (2): It's too late.
Tamala Krsna: Maybe they won't open them.
Prabhupada: Not very important. Jaya.
Panḍitji: [Transl. You can do parikrama.]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. We can do parikrama. Can't we have darsana now?]
Panḍitji: [Transl. No. The Deities are taking rest.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. That's all right.]
Tamala Krsna: Prabhupada, Gargamuni says there are very beautiful paintings inside. Do you want to see them? On the walls.
Prabhupada: On the wall? I don't… If you like, you can see.
Tamala Krsna: No…
Prabhupada: We can go and see. Come, I shall sit down. Go and see.
Tamala Krsna: Ah, well if…
Dr. Kapoor: Four o'clock...
Prabhupada: No, no. Not four o'clock. There are some paintings he wants to see… [Hindi] All right, Srila dasi. Parikrama.
Tamala Krsna: We've come so far, we should see something.
[background conversation]
Panḍitji: [Transl. No leather allowed.]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. No leather. This is rexin. We don't have leather with us.]
Panḍitji: [checks]
Devotee: That's Srimad-Bhagavatam.
Prabhupada: Nice building.
Tamala Krsna: Can I build such a building in New York?
Prabhupada: You can build, but it will be very expensive.
Indian devotee: All stone, Prabhupada. Over a century.
Tamala Krsna: Prabhupada, many of these things seem to be the way you describe for Mayapur temple.
Prabhupada: Yes. We have got our plan in this way. Inside, we have got our plan like this.
Tamala Krsna: Ah.
Nara-Narayana: Twice as high, and three times wider.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Tamala Krsna: Ah. This seems to be the kind of siding that you describe, Prabhupada.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Tamala Krsna: This grating.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Panḍitji: [Transl. Everyone come here after darsana and take caranamrta.]
[background conversation]
Tamala Krsna: Everything is impermanent.
Devotee: That's what Prabhupada says.
[various people describing what they are seeing in the paintings]
Panḍitji: [explaining the paintings] [Transl. This is childhood pastime. This is Kaliya-damana pastimes when Bhagavan chastised Kaliya. That is udūkhala pastimes when Krsna was bound to a wooden grinding mortar. This is when Bhagavan lifted the Govardhana hill. And this mahatma lives here and does bhajana. Great saint.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Give him one rupee.]
Panḍitji: [Transl. Never asks anything from anyone.]
[break] [Prabhupada coughing]
Prabhupada: Can you give me a little water?
Devotee: Water.
Indian man: [Transl. Water. Water.]
[people go to get water; Hindi discussion]
Prabhupada: [Transl. No. I don't need a glass.]
Panḍitji: [Transl. Do you want a glass, Baba?]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Where is glass?]
Panḍitji: [Transl. Hey, bring get a glass.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. No, this is enough.]
Panḍitji: [Transl. The water here is very sweet.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. We may need more water.]
Panḍitji: [Transl. Take as much as you want.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. That's all. That's all. No. Not more.]
Devotee: Too much water here.
Devotee (2): Too much water.
Prabhupada: Keep it.
Devotee: [indistinct] keep it. [break]
Panḍitji: [Transl. All this is Gahgajala.]
Devotee: Sarasvati keep it. [break]
[Panḍitji chants some blessing mantras]
Vrajavasi lady: Jaya ho! Hari bol!
Prabhupada: Let us go.
Tamala Krsna: Let us go. [break]
[in different location; kirtana]
Tamala Krsna: This is beautiful here. Look at the paintings. Radharani was born here?
Prabhupada: Radharani was born there.
Tamala Krsna: And Krsna was born in… He was raised in Nanda-grama.
Prabhupada: Gokula. We shall go tomorrow.
Tamala Krsna: Krsna, He lived in Nanda-grama?
Prabhupada: Hah?
Tamala Krsna: He lived in Nanda-grama when He was young?
Prabhupada: Yes, when there was too much disturbance of the demons, Nanda Maharaja's elder brother decided that "We cannot live here. Let us leave this place." He has given that picture, and there is a cart, a bullock cart.
Tamala Krsna: Then they moved to Vrndavana?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Devotee: Prabhupada? And Vasudeva took Krsna across the Yamuna all the way up to this hill up here?
Prabhupada: Yes, yes.
Devotee: Very long walk.
Prabhupada: Not here; on the other side.
Devotee: On the other hill.
Prabhupada: Gokula. And when He was three, four years old, then He was brought to Nanda-grama. [break]
Tamala Krsna: …place to live is the highest spot. That is the nicest place?
Prabhupada: Yes. The whole world may be inundated. [break] Royal palaces were made on the hills. Not only…
[aside:] Be careful; you are going…
[break] Himalaya it is like this. Thousands of miles-stone, stone, stone. I have traveled from Jammu to Kashmir by bus. And hundreds and thousands of miles, only stone like this.
Devotee: They put. They put it there.
Prabhupada: Don't go there. Why you are going by that path?
Tamala Krsna: Prabhupada? Govardhana is stone?
Prabhupada: Yes, one thousand stones.
[break] To ride on this palanquin is very comfortable, [laughter] at the cost of others. [laughs]
Tamala Krsna: We should construct one, Prabhupada, for the remainder of the trip.
Prabhupada: It is better than any other vehicle. Formerly, kings were being carried by palanquin. They did not like carriage. Carriage… Palanquin was transformed to carriage first in England-palanquin-carriage, drawn by horse.
[break] How much fine work in marble stone.
Indian: [Transl. This is Radharani's place. Birth place.]
Prabhupada: This is the spot…
Devotee: This is the spot?
Prabhupada: …where Radharani was born.
Devotees: Oh, wow. Right there?
Prabhupada: Radhastami. Fifteen days younger than Krsna. [break]
[at another location]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Baba, we are not beggars. We are pūjaris of Sriji. We are not beggars. We are asking only from you and not from anyone else! Cow dung, they use for fuel.] Cow dung, they use for fuel.
Devotee: They dry it for chips?
Prabhupada: Yes… No, they dry it for using as fuel.
Devotee: Yes. It has a very, very nice fragrance.
Prabhupada: Mm. [break] Cow, anything of cow is useful: urine, dung, everything. Skin, hoof, horn, milk-everything. [break] Small pieces.
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Baba, give to vrajavasis.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. We gave to the vrajavasis.]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. I was not up there in the temple. I am a vrajavasi. I sit here only. If everyone takes it all…]
Prabhupada: [Transl. There, we gave to the vrajavasis already.]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Here we haven't got anything. Here the vrajavasis…]
Prabhupada: [Transl. There, they said they will distribute to everybody.]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. They are different and we are different.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. We gave already.]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. We are from Vrsabhanu's place. Up there they are different. Give something for the Vrsabhanu's vrajavasis. Where did you give? At least give something to the sweeper.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Yes, give to the sweeper. We gave to the vrajavasis already there.]
Indian: [Transl. I want to ask you that would you like go back to the bus or rest a while here?]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Go to the bus.] [break]
Devotee: Take it. Take it. [break]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Maharajaji, give us ten rupees. We didn't get. We are many. Hari bol! Please give us.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. How much did you get?]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Four rupees.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. He gave you four rupees.] [break]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Jaya Sri Krsna! We want your blessings. May all of become become blessed.]
Prabhupada: …one rupee. Give me one rupee. [leaves in bus]
Devotee: Yes, it's true. Vrndavana is like everywhere, because it's been like this all my life, Srila Prabhupada. [break]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. I didn't get anything.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. What can I do if you haven't got it? We gave for everyone.]
Indian: [Transl. Is everyone in?]
Prabhupada: Distribute one thousand rupees, still… This is the position of pilgrimage. [break]
Dr. Kapoor: Prabhupada, shall you take the prasadam before or after?
Indian: [Transl. What about bathing?]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. Bathing arrangement is in Govardhana, Manasi gahga.]
Prabhupada: [to bus driver:] [Transl. Call your man.]
Driver: [Transl. Your man is gone.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Is everyone in or not?]
Driver: [Transl. He is not here now.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Where did he go?]
Driver: [Transl. He has gone to the market.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. What is he doing in the market?] [break]
Devotee: There's that man. [break]
Prabhupada: Why they are there?
Devotee: Devahuti mataji is here.
Tamala Krsna: She's just getting on now, taking... I don't know why she took so long.
Prabhupada: Why you are taking so much time? Sit down, sit down. [Transl. Let us go. Whoever is left out let him remain.] [break]
Tamala Krsna: [in bus] That old man is there, that old man at the Damodara.
Prabhupada: Why that old man gets down? Huh?
Tamala Krsna: The old man should stay here now.
Prabhupada: No, we cannot. [break] …never come to these places, only for business.
Tamala Krsna: I see.
Prabhupada: I know. Only bothering. Only bothering.
Devotee: In this way Vrndavana is everywhere. This has been like it all my life. [break]
Prabhupada: …Narottama dasa Thakura has said, tirtha yatra parisrama sakali manera bhrama. [Prem-bhakti-candrika 3.5] Tirtha yatra, to go to the pilgrimage, that is simply laboring. Manera bhrama. Mistake of the mind. He did not like to chant Hare Krsna at a place.
Devotee: Is Radhakunḍa like this also? [break]
Prabhupada: [Transl. It would be better if Radhakunḍa was first.]
Indian: [Transl. First Govardhana will come then Radha-kunḍ.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. All right let us go to Govardhana first.]
Indian: [Transl. Where should the devotees take their bath, in Radha-kunḍa or Manasi-gahga in Govardhana?]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Can they take bath in Govardhana?]
Indian: [Transl. As you order. If you want in Radha-kunḍa then that can be arranged.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. In that case we have to go to Radha-kunḍa first.]
Indian: [Transl. Two or three minutes only. The vehicle will go. Two or three minutes distance from Radha-kunḍa to Govardhana. So let us go to Radha-kunḍa first.]
Syamasundara: Is that Govardhana Hill right there?
Devotee: It's small.
Syamasundara: That's Govardhana Hill right there? It's so small! There's Govardhana Hill!
Devotee: The cows are still taking shelter.
[arrival at Kusuma-Sarovara-Hindi greetings]
Prabhupada: [to devotee:] You are taking a bath?
Devotee: In the morning. Yes.
Tamala Krsna: I took mine at three o'clock.
Indian: [Transl. Will you take a bath?]
Prabhupada: [Transl. I have to take bath. Where should we take bath?]
Indian: [Transl. At Manasi-gahga, Maharaja. All tanks are there.]
Prabhupada: That's all right. [break]
[background discussion in Hindi]
Prabhupada: I may not take bath.
Devotee: I'll ask, Prabhupada. There should be no inconvenience.
Indian: He says Prabhupada will take bath here. But this place is…
Vrajavasi: [Transl. They are not from Gauḍiya Matha. Not from Gauḍiya Matha. They are followers of Syamabai. Come here and do some acamana.]
Indian: [Transl. How harsh they speak. Just can't speak sweet words.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. I have got a lota.]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Call your other devotees.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. They won't bathe here.] You can take a bath if you like. I shall stay here.
[background discussion among devotees about bathing]
Devotee: There is a palace there.
Prabhupada: What is that?
Tamala Krsna: Said something about that we should take bath here. If we don't want to take bath, where shall we stay?
Prabhupada: Somebody may remain here and some can go.
Tamala Krsna: I'll stay here.
Prabhupada: He will stay, and others can see.
Tamala Krsna: I've seen it before.
Prabhupada: You have seen.
Devotee: I have seen also.
Tamala Krsna: What is happening? Is there someone who would take us?
Indian: Yes, he is going. Our guide will come with us.
[more discussion among devotees]
Prabhupada: Where is that palace?]
Tamala Krsna: I think everyone's a bit tired.
Prabhupada: Let them take rest,
Devotee: Take prasadam and rest.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Devotee: Is that Radhakunḍa? No.
Prabhupada: No, Radhakunḍa is far away.
Devotee: Coming.
Tamala Krsna: Now we can see the value of hearing about the holy places. Visually is nice, but hearing-perfect.
Prabhupada: [Transl. You sit down here.] So, somebody may come with me.
Tamala Krsna: Rohini. Rohini.
Prabhupada: You take this water; let us go.
Tamala Krsna: We'll stay here. [break]
[kirtana]
Prabhupada: Who is keeping money? One rupee.
Devotee: Someone have a rupee? Just one? One rupee here, and one here.
Vrajavasis: [Transl. Svami Maharaja is here. Offer flowers. Should I bring some sweets for Maharaja?]
Prabhupada: Give one rupee.
Devotee: One rupee. Visala?
Syamasundara: What are these places, Prabhupada? What are these temples? Anything special? [break]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. We are fifteen people.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Who is the head?]
Prabhupada: Give him four, five rupees. [break]
Vrajavasis: [Transl. Everyone will get then. All are brahmanas. Ten rupees will be sufficient.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. If you speak unreasonable you won't get any money.]
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Whatever Baba has ordered is final.] [break]
Syamasundara: Visala? Five rupees. It's all right. [break]
Prabhupada: Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami…
Vrajavasi: [Transl. I am a vrajavasi.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Go to the vrajavasis.]
Devotee: …I mean these kunḍas, Radha-kunḍa and Syama-kunḍa. What is the history of this?
Vrajavasi: [Transl. Maharaja, this is Kaviraja Gosvami's bhajana-kutira and Dasa Gosvami's bhajana kutira.]
[break] [kirtana] [break]
Syamasundara: ...Syamakunḍa and Radhakunḍa-what is that?
Prabhupada: Krsna and Radharani, They would take bath.
Syamasundara: Ah.
Prabhupada: And meet.
Syamasundara: Ah.
Devotee (2): This bathing ghat? [break]
Devotee: …Syamakunḍa, together?
Prabhupada: Because Radhakunḍa was discovered by Caitanya Mahaprabhu. [break]
Syamasundara: What is tomorrow morning's program?
[background discussion among devotees about Ekadasi and engagements] [break]
Mataji: Hare Krsna! Tomorrow is Ekadasi.
Tamala Krsna: She has invited Prabhupada and he has accepted it. Jatiya house.
Prabhupada: …Connaught place, long ago. So he asked me, "Swamiji, why you have selected Vrndavana as your headquarter?"
Dr. Kapoor: Hmm. [laughs] It should be Bombay or Calcutta.
Prabhupada: No, he had some this bad experience of Vrndavana.
Dr. Kapoor: Ah. I see.
Indian: Gokula, Dauji. [break]
Prabhupada: [in bus] …living condition is not that. In Western country, especially America, is going on.
Dr. Kapoor: Yes. It is the most affluent country. The problem there now is affluence, not poverty. They don't know what to do with their money.
Prabhupada: Yes. Here there is no money. And there is so ample money, they do not know how to use it.
Dr. Kapoor: Affluence has its own problems. Perhaps more problems than poverty. [laughs]
Prabhupada: [Transl. When a man gets too much money he becomes worried about how to use it.] [laughs]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. It becomes more problem.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. That is also another problem.]
Dr. Kapoor: [Transl. Like in India many people are worried about keeping and investing their black money.]
Prabhupada: [Transl. Black money is everywhere.] [break] [end]
