O merciful Prabhupada, your eyes they can heal,
Taking hard-hearted souls, and making them feel.
Your mace is your mercy, soothing and warm,
Your love is our guidelight through maya's dark storm.
Your heart, it contains the Lord's loving grace,
His smile you partake of, face to face.
You've given us hope, as the ship was going down,
With you as our captain, we surely won't drown.
The guru, the sastra, the sadhu, it's said,
Without your pure kindness, we would surely be dead.
Devotional service, the ultimate goal,
The need of the world, the need of the soul.
Bestowed upon freely, without legislation,
Pure love of Krsna, life's destination.
To kindle a fire of freedom and light,
You say we must stand, prepared always to fight.
By never retreating from what seemed defeat,
We're learning to serve at your two lotus feet.
Once upon a time, long, long ago, some very foolish children of a very rich father decided to run away from home. And although the father knew of the plans of the children and although he was hurt to hear of their scheme, still he allowed them to do as they had planned. And so they left.
On the first day of their journey they were robbed of their intelligence by the thief of lust. On the second day they began to feel weak from lack of the food of spiritual knowledge. On the third day the mud and dirt from the road became caked on their clothes and covered their qualities of kindness, humility and compassion. On the fourth day they were beaten and disheartened by the rogues of false theories and mental speculation. On the fifth day they contracted the disease of sense gratification and because of this they could no longer remember where they had come from, nor who they were. On the sixth day they could understand that they had somehow gotten lost in the forest and on the seventh day the cold rains of selfishness and greed began to pour incessantly upon them, soaking their clothes, and the winds of envy and false pride chilled them to the bone and burned their faces.
It was in the dark, rainy night of that seventh day that a gentleman appeared before the children. He carried with him a candle, and seeing the pitiable condition of the children he took compassion on them and brought them home with him.
Not desiring anything in return, the gentleman first of all discarded the filthy wet clothing of the children, bathed them, gave them clean, warm clothing, and began to cook for them and feed them daily. In this way the gentleman began to nourish the children back to health, and when they became well enough to understand, he explained to them what had happened and that he had been sent by their father to retrieve them. Upon hearing this the children became joyful, and along with the gentleman they all began to make the happy journey back home.
My dear Srila Prabhupada, you have retrieved us from this horrible material world and have given us devotional service to Krsna. We simply pray that you will allow us to express our gratitude to you by letting us assist you in your mission to fulfill the desire of Lord Caitanya. Just as the sun floods the world with its rays, so you are flooding the world with your transcendental qualities. It is our greatest honor if we are allowed to share in this inundation,
Srila Prabhupada
No mortal can surpass you
No man can stand a chance
You've given us the emerald road
The step to deliverance.
What mercy lies within you
Your kindness knows no bounds
You've given us the complete shelter
In transcendental grounds.
Such strong determination
With loving ties is laced
You've given us the highest power
A transcendental taste.
So thoughtful and so pensive
As how to carry on
You've given us that royal order
To please Madana Mohana.
Most pleasing is your talking
Breaking down those gloomy walls
You've given us eternal light
We march down maya's halls.
With only Krsna's guidance
You 're captain of this ship
You've given us a place to ride
Guaranteed a one-way trip.
How giving is your nature
A quality of few
You've given us your very life
What can we give to you ?
