Before coming under the shelter of your lotus feet, Srila Prabhupada, we were all gliding down to hell.
utkramantam sthitam vapi
bhunjanam va gunanvitam
vimūḍha nanupasyanti
pasyanti jnana-caksusaḥ
Bhagavad-gita 15.10
bhunjanam va gunanvitam
vimūḍha nanupasyanti
pasyanti jnana-caksusaḥ
Bhagavad-gita 15.10
The foolish cannot understand how a living entity can quit his body nor can they understand what sort of body he enjoys under the spell of the modes of nature. But one whose eyes are trained in knowledge can see all this." Vimūḍhaḥ in this verse means foolish person. We were all first-class fools, engaged in sense gratification before taking shelter of your devotional service. It is stated in the Brhad Aravyaka Upanisad:
yo va etad aksaram gargy
aviditvasmal lokat paiti sa krpanan
aviditvasmal lokat paiti sa krpanan
"He is a miserly man who does not solve the problems of life as a human and who thus quits this world like the cats and dogs, without understanding the science of self-realization."
So we were paving our way to animal births in our next lives if it hadn't been for your engaging us in the loving service of the Lord. Krsna states in the Fifteenth Chapter of the Gita that for one who engages in His service, He delivers him from the ocean of birth and death. We were being trained in the Western world to be first-class sense gratifiers and now you are training us to be first-class servants of Krsna. It is said that one cannot buy a ticket to Vrndavana but by serving your lotus feet we are becoming eligible in this life for going home, back to Godhead. We cannot possibly repay you for your mercy, but we can only beg you to allow us to serve you eternally. Rūpa Gosvami states that Lord Caitanya is the most merciful of all of Krsna's incarnations. You are the most merciful of Lord Caitanya's representatives, for you are delivering us most fallen souls. All glories to you, Srila Prabhupada. All glories to your devotional service.
