Let us offer our respectful obeisances again and again unto the lotus feet of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
te vai vidanty atitaranti ca deva-mayam
stri-sūdra-hūna-sabara api papa-jivaḥ
yady adbhuta-krama-parayana-silasiksas
tiryag-jana api kimu sruta-dharana ye
"Surrendered souls, even from the groups leading sinful lives, such as the women, the laborer class, the mountaineers, the Siberians, etc., or even the birds and beasts, can also know about the science of Godhead and become liberated from the clutches of the illusory energy by surrendering unto the pure devotees of the Lord and by following in their footsteps in devotional service." (Bhag. 2.7.46)
Germany is a nation which lies divided, half-devoured by the tiger of atheism. Its people are classified in the sastras as hūnas, or hill tribesmen, who, being addicted to all sorts of sinful behavior, exist far, far outside the purview of the Vedic standard of civilization. They comprise just another unfortunate group of lost souls completely victimized by the Age of Kali, in which religion, truthfulness, cleanliness, mercy, memory, bodily strength and duration of life are reduced to almost nil. Overwhelmed by the horrors of natural and unnatural disasters on one side, and fettered by their own slothful ignorance on the other, even the greatest thinkers of modern times have given up hope for salvation from the black whirlpool of Kali-yuga. Germany in particular has produced many such prophets of despair (e.g. Karl Marx, Adolf Hitler) whose philosophies have periodically pushed the world to the brink of cataclysm.
But now-suddenly-a visible change in consciousness has spread across the face of Germany and the face of the world. The iron grip of Kali is loosening from around the hearts of men. The tinsel-and-plastic prizes of materialistic civilization have lost their attraction, and even the most fallen persons are developing a sincere interest in knowing the truth which lies beyond the illusory display of maya. Why?
It is due to Your Divine Grace.
Just by your brief visitation to our wretched planet, you have unleashed a spiritual revolution which is consuming the inauspicious qualities of this age and opening the way back home, back to Godhead, for everyone. Sadyaḥ punanty upasprstaḥ-"at once sanctifying all who come in contact with him"-this is your quality, for you are visnu-pada, situated at the lotus feet of Visnu, and krsna-prestha, very dear to Krsna. And because you are the spotless representative of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, no one in this Age of Kali can resist being drawn to your lotus feet. Therefore we see a new society rising from ruins of the old, a society of "surrendered souls, even from the groups leading sinful lives," who know the science of Godhead.
What is that science? It is sadhu-sahga, association with devotees of the Lord; krsna-seva, rendering service to Lord Krsna as directed by the revealed scriptures; bhagavata, regularly hearing and discussing the Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita; nama, chanting sixteen rounds of the maha-mantra-Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare-and vrajavasa, living in the holy dhama of the Lord. By executing these scientific principles of bhakti-yoga one becomes immediately free from the bodily conception of life and can gradually understand his eternal spiritual relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Bhagavan Sri Krsna.
This science of love of God was delivered five hundred years ago by Lord Krsna in His avatara feature of Lord Caitanya, and it has been protected since that time by the parampara disciplic succession, headed by Srila Rūpa Gosvami Prabhupada. But of all the great acaryas to whom this precious knowledge has been entrusted, it must be admitted that it is you, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who have astounded the world the most. You have compiled the message of Mahaprabhu into a veritable library of transcendental literatures, each volume of which is exactly like your own touchstone association, which sanctifies all that it contacts. And to distribute these wonderful books and demonstrate their teachings for all to see, you have assembled an army of disciples from all corners of the earth. Though we may be German or American, African or Chinese, we have surrendered to you only, impelled by your causeless mercy. We are praying desperately on this day of your appearance for the spiritual power needed to push ahead your mission to all peoples of all nationalities and languages.
"Srila Prabhupada! You are inconceivably powerful! You carry within your heart Sri Sri Radha-Madanamohana vigraha, and your form is the embodiment of devotional instruction! You are jagad-guru, the spiritual master of the universe, who spreads the sahkirtana movement of Lord Caitanya throughout the three worlds! You are Prabhupada, the master at whose feet all other masters sit, and you are saktyavesa-avatara, who descends among us with Lord Caitanya's full potencies! Feeling hindered by your aged body, you cast it off and accept the youthful bodies of your sincere disciples! Thus you are expanding yourself without limit, for 'the guru is one, though manifested in an infinite variety of forms.' We fall at your lotus feet again and again, desiring your association! We pray that your spiritual form will spring forth from our hearts and ignite the fire of devotional service within the hearts of all conditioned souls! O eternal preacher of bhagavata-dharma, let us understand your eternal form by our preaching!"
