To One Who is Great

To whom does one pay homage?
To one who is great?
Yes…
But, who is great?
And how is he great?

Some men are considered great
Because they've done wonderful things
For their country and fellow men,
Like penicillin,
And abolition.

But what good is curing one disease
Or freeing some people from slavery,
When most of the others
Are all sick,
Or still slaves?

If only someone could cure them all.
Or free them all.
But who?
And how?

Does such a person exist
With the potency and skill
To cure everyone?
And free everyone?

One who can cut the ropes
Of material bondage,
Who can cure our hearts
Of their sinful desires?

To be sure, there is one.
But how is he called?
What is his name?
And how is he known?

He is called acarya,
Guru
Pure devotee,
Saint.

He is known by his message
Of love of God,
And by the knowledge presented
Without contamination.

He is known by his mercy;
By distributing freely
Both the way and means
To get back to Home.

He is known by his actions.
Every move is perfection.
He teaches by example
And he gives us direction.

To his disciples, he is Srila Prabhupada,
Most intimate devotee
Of the Supreme Person,
Krsna,
His friend.

A bona-fide teacher
In an unbroken chain
Of teachers and students-
The parampara.

The potency of Krsna
In his every word,
He can cure us and free us
If only he is heard.

He's the greatest of great men
Because his motivations are selfless-
To deliver the fallen souls;
Without him we are helpless.

So if paying a tribute
Is what we desire,
We should pay it to one
Who is truly inspired.

Dear Srila Prabhupada,
The most humble of men,
To you we pay homage,
Again and again.

The purest of devotees;
Incarnation of Mercy
So great and so rare
No one can compare;

To you we pay homage
And offer humble respects,
For you can cure every man
And help get us back,

To home,
To Godhead.
