CALCUTTA
Never mind everything that happened before! It was simple the dance of maya-an unparalleled burning fire, scorching and destructive, sheer and utter ignorance. As an animal in a burning forest had no way out, similarly, we were rendered helpless, faithless and ridden with doubt.
Srila Prabhupada was dispatched by the almighty Lord Krsna as His divine grace. "Divine" connotes absolute power and "grace" connotes mercy. Prabhupada represents the powerful mercy of God, Krsna, the Supreme Person. "Power" means capacity to purify; like the mighty sun purifies a dirty place, Srila Prabhupada cleansed the contaminated hearts of his disciples.
His Divine Grace approached us with unprecedented kindness and tolerated our sick condition. We, blind as we were, didn't know what a great soul had entered our midst. Prabhupada persisted in his transcendental duty-to enlighten the lowest class of men, to pull us to Krsna consciousness. With painstaking care, step by step, he preached and preached and preached and proved the glory of Krsna: kirtaniyaḥ sada hariḥ. "Let any nonsense come to me, and I will prove the existence of God," Srila Prabhupada boldly challenged. Our attachments became shattered, our material lives were disrupted, and our souls became excited at the prospect of holding on to the lotus feet of Prabhupada and being restored to our natural glory: dasa-dasa-dasa-anudasa.
Never mind the abominable ocean of pain where we had bewilderingly loitered since time immemorial. That's all over now; simply a nightmare from which His Divine Grace has awakened us. No repayment of that transcendental debt is possible, but by the grace of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, may we somehow or other become inclined to eternally wash the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada with tears of love and devotion.
Real love is not the sentimental and passionate lust of material desperation. Real love is reserved for God and His representative. That's why we love Srila Prabhupada. It is not artificial and pretentious, but springs from the soul and makes us dance in joyful thankfulness. There was not one shred of hope, but Prabhupada has picked us up. Sri-guru-carana-padma, kevala bhakati-sadma. Let us not dare to forget even for one moment the two lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada, because maya is no joke, and she will fill in any gap if opportunity is given. Let us rather worship each moment of association with Prabhupada and carry his instructions faithfully on our heads.
Never mind the ill logic and delusion of maya. Ignore her, even if she may relentlessly, it seems, approach us in our weakness. Rather, accept the science of God as the all-good common sense. Thus remembering and taking shelter of Prabhupada's vani, the unlimited nectarean volumes of books churned in the vast ocean of his spiritual ecstasy, we shall find continuous strength.
All glories to you, Srila Prabhupada. Please allow us now to offer you a seat within our minds and hearts, though we are not so advanced, but by your grace we may do so. Such continued association with you will certainly carry us back home, back to Godhead.
