This is surely the most blessed of all events-the anniversary of our spiritual master's appearance in this material world.
om ajhana-timirandhasya jhanahjana-salakaya
caksur unmilitam yena tasmai sri-gurave namaḥ
To the spiritual master we owe the greatest debt, a debt which is impossible to repay, for he gives on eternal life and thus frees one from birth, death, disease and old age. Thus the Vedas have enjoined: itad-vijnanartham sa gurum evabhigacchet. There is no one else who can give such a matchless gift as the guru does. Dhyayan stuvams tasya yasas tri-sandhyam vande guroḥ sri-caranaravindam. Therefore I should always remember and praise the spiritual master. At least three times a day I should offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of my spiritual master.
To accept a spiritual master should not be taken as a fashion or a fad, but for gaining relief from the miserable condition of material life. He is directly empowered by the Supreme Lord to deliver the fallen souls. Kintu prabhor yaḥ priya eva tasya-"the bona fide representative of the Lord."
Therefore we want very much to glorify our guru, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Who can say how exalted was his position? The most confidential servitor of the Lord. "Prabhupada"-how rightly for him to have this title, "the feet at whom all masters sit", an exalted personality. Simply by his every word and action he created in everyone he came across a long-lost desire for service to Krsna, surrender to the Lord.
It is said that the pure devotee is like a touchstone: whosoever he comes in contact with becomes mad after Krsna. With a touchstone one can turn even low-grade metals into gold. Similarly, Srila Prabhupada turned us mlecchas and yavanas into Vaisnavas.
It is said in the Srimad-Bhagavatam that the disciple of a bona fide spiritual master should give up his life when the spiritual master leaves this world if he cannot carry on the mission of the guru. We don't want to give up our bodies yet. We want to push on the movement our Prabhupada has established, for we know this is his desire. He wants to see us working to please Lord Caitanya. He wants us to deliver the fallen conditioned souls.
Actually his mercy is all that we are made of!
Please, Srila Prabhupada, give us the shade of your lotus feet! Please let us be your servants, birth after birth.
