Jagadīśa dāsa
Jagadisa dasa
A poem to honor His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada on his appearance day, August 27, 1978
The Sun was shining for so long,
Conferring mercy everywhere,
A most unusual event
Considering the atmosphere.
The darkness of this time is dense;
It's very rare that one can see,
As when the twilight's almost done,
Approaching night's obscurity.
For those of us who had the chance
To bathe in his effulgent glance,
It was a blessed miracle -
He taught us how to sing and dance.
He opened up Vaikuntha's gate
And stepped into this mortal place,
Inviting us to come with him
To meet with Krsna face to face.
Alas, but now he's out of sight,
And I've been dragging way behind
In hopes that there was still a chance
Of finding pleasure of some kind.
While thinking I could find a way
To have my cake and eat it too,
I've lost my chance to see him smile
At seeing something I might do.
Damnation to this wretched mind
Which dragged me from his lotus feet
And caused me to ignore the truth
And think blood-sucking thorns were sweet.
Now I must make a firm resolve
To give up such recalcitrance
And all my foolish cherished dreams
Which drag me into ignorance.
My dear Lord Krsna, help me please
To take into my darkened heart
Remembrance of his lotus feet,
Permit me please to know this art.
I dedicate my life and soul
To help fulfill his wondrous plan,
To beat back maya's influence,
By Krsna's grace I'm sure we can.
To all the villages and towns
In every corner of the earth,
We'll take the message of the Lord
To give the lifeless souls rebirth.
Your servant,
Jagadisa dasa
