Bali Mardan dasa Gosvami
To the True Mahatma:
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
nama om visnu-padaya krsna-presthaya bhū-tale
srimate bhaktivedanta-svamin iti namine
namas te sarasvate deve gaura-vani-pracarine
nirvisesa-sūnyavadi-pascatya-desa-tarine
All glories to you, Srila Prabhupada, the true emissary of Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Mahaprabhu declared:
prthivite ache yata nagaradi grama
sarvatra pracara haibe mora nama
"In every town and village the chanting of My name will be heard."
It is you who has fulfilled these words of the Supreme Lord.
The great saint Thakura Bhaktivinoda predicted that soon a pure soul would come to benedict the world with Krsna consciousness, and verily you are that pure soul, come to deliver us from the bondage of material existence. Constantly you preach to us the message of Bhagavad-gita and describe endlessly the glory of Sri Krsna, thus revealing the meaning of the true mahatma. Krsna describes in Bhagavad-gita:
satatam kirtayanto mam
yatantas ca drḍha-vrataḥ
namasyantas ca mam bhaktya
nitya-yukta upasate
"Always chanting My glories, endeavoring with great determination, bowing down before Me, these great souls perpetually worship Me with devotion." (Bg. 9.14)
Many are called guru, but you actually have the qualification of guru and mahatma, as defined in the authoritative scriptures. One who accepts you as his spiritual master attains the perfection of life.
My only claim to your grace is that I am a most fallen soul, a wretched sinner entrapped within the bonds of tamas (ignorance) and rajas (passion). You are jagad-guru, a liberated soul who can save the whole universe. Prostrated, I wait for your causeless mercy to descend.
