For Prabhupadji
As we walked through the streets of New York, through the heat and the dirt and the waste,
An indescribable smile came over His beautiful face.
Not a smile that would last for a moment, or was curled by disdain or desire,
But perpetual, blissful, secure, shyly gleaming with spiritual fire.
An indescribable smile came over His beautiful face.
Not a smile that would last for a moment, or was curled by disdain or desire,
But perpetual, blissful, secure, shyly gleaming with spiritual fire.
We gazed at that smiling so long, with its peace, its surrender and grace,
That it seemed that the world of the living had its source in the glow of Your face.
Now can we praise or describe You, who has plucked us up from our strife,
Who has lit up this dark place of danger, and has given us back our life.
That it seemed that the world of the living had its source in the glow of Your face.
Now can we praise or describe You, who has plucked us up from our strife,
Who has lit up this dark place of danger, and has given us back our life.
There was never a basis for living, there was never a reason to act,
And now You have blessed us with unbound gifts, and every moment is packed
With meaning, with hope and with joy; one small wish, one stubborn desire:
To serve You and chant Hare Krishna for the rest of my eternal life.
And now You have blessed us with unbound gifts, and every moment is packed
With meaning, with hope and with joy; one small wish, one stubborn desire:
To serve You and chant Hare Krishna for the rest of my eternal life.
