PURPORT
The word paramesthinam (p-a-r-a-m-a-s-t-h-i-n-a-m) is sometimes used in connection with Brahma. Paramesthina means the supreme person. As Brahma is the supreme person within this universe, similarly Krsna is the Supreme Person in the spiritual world. So Lord Kapiladeva advising His mother that she should take shelter of the lotus feet of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, because it is worthwhile. To worship the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord, Visnu or Krsna, is worthwhile, and to take shelter of other demigods, even up to the highest position like Brahma and Siva, is not advised herewith.
And one should take shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead sarva-bhavena (s-a-r-v-a b-h-a-v-e-n-a). Sarva-bhavena means "in all sorts of loving ecstasy." Bhava is the preliminary stage of elevation before attaining pure love of Godhead. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita [Bg 10.8]: budha bhava-samanvitaḥ-one who has attained to the stage of bhava, they can accept the lotus feet of Lord Krsna as worshipable. So this is advised by Lord Kapila to His mother. Another significance of this verse is: tad-gunasrayaya bhaktya (t-a-d g-u-n-a-s-r-a-y-a, bhaktya, b-h-a-k-t-y-a). Tad-gunasrayaya bhaktya. That means by discharging devotional service which is transcendental and rendering service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, is not material activity. They are all transcendental. And this is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita [Bg 14.26], that those who are engaged in devotional service, they are to be accepted as situated in the spiritual kingdom. Brahma-bhūyaya kalpate-they at once become situated in the transcendental kingdom.
So devotional service in full Krsna consciousness is the only means for highest perfectional life of human being, and this is recommended herewith by Lord Kapila to His mother. Bhakti is therefore nirguna, without any tinge of material qualities. Although discharge of devotional service appears to be like other material activities, but devotional service is…, is never saguna, or contaminated with material qualities. Another feature of the word tad-gunasrayaya means that Lord Krsna's transcendental qualities are so sublime that there is no need of diverting one's attention to any other activities. His behavior with the devotees are so exalted that a devotee need not try to divert his attention to any other worship. It is said that the demonic Pūtana, Pūtana she came to kill Krsna by poisoning Him. But because Krsna was pleased to suck her breast, she was given the same position as His mother. And therefore devotees pray that if such a demon who wanted to kill Krsna gets such an exalted position, then why should they go to anyone else for our worshipful attachment than to Krsna? There are two kinds of religious activities: one for material advancement, and the other is for spiritual advancement. So by taking shelter unto the lotus feet of Krsna one is endowed with both kinds of prosperity, material and spiritual. Then why one should go to anyone else or any other demigod?
