This is the instruction of Prabodhananda Sarasvati. He says that "Taking a straw in my mouth..." That is a Indian system of to become humble. If I approach somebody with a straw in my mouth, that means I have become very humble to him. So he says, dante nidhaya trnakam, "Taking a straw in my teeth," and padayor nipatya, "and falling down on your leg," kaku-satam krtva ca, "hundred times flattering you," aham bravimi, "I want to submit something." Naturally the man will be inclined: "All right, you say it, what you want." So he says, he sadhavah: "You are very nice man, you are very great man, but you kindly forget what you have learned. [laughter] You all nonsense, whatever you have learned, please forget." "Then, what I have to do?" Caitanya-candra-carane kurutanuragam: "Just take shelter of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Your life will be successful." So we shall flatter, we shall hold our hands, we shall fall on the feet and do everything, but we shall, "You nonsense, please forget what you have learned." Please accept my greetings and blessing of Lord Bala Krishna. I hope you have already received my letter of the 27th ultimo and I hope to receive your reply very soon. And in continuation of my letter as above-mentioned I beg to inform you that the number of Hiranyakasipus and Ravanas in this Age of Kali increased more than that in other Yugas. Hiranyakasipus are always inimical with the devotees of the Lord even if such devotee happens to be a son. Hiranyakasipu persecuted Prahlada although he was a boy of 5 years old and a beloved son of Hiranyakasipu. As I have already informed you that the American people in general are very much inclined to receive something from Indian culture of spiritual knowledge, they would be a first class recipient for the Bhagavatam culture provided an organized attempt is made for this purpose. The organized method is like this. They should have association of bona fide devotees of the Lord, they should join the Kirtana glorifying the Lord, they should hear the teachings of Srimad-Bhagavatam, they should have intimate touch with the temple or place of the Lord and they should be given ample chance to worship the Lord in the temple. Under the guidance of a bona fide devotee they can be given such facilities and the way of Srimad-Bhagavatam is open for every one. Apart from civilized men like the Americans even the Kirata, Andhra, Pulinda, Pukkasa, Abhira, Sumbha, Yavana, Khasadaya or any other lower caste, all of them can be trained up to be devotees of the Lord under proper guidance of a pure and bona fide devotee. I am very pleased with your activities there and advise you to go on with kirtana. You say there is a small community there taking part in kirtana and prasadam distribution, so try to increase it as far as possible, according to time and place in the situation you find in Singapore.

You lament that you are not qualified to present Krsna Consciousness properly, but this is the qualification: hold kirtanas with your friends, read passages from my books, distribute prasadam and try to get more people to read the books. That you are already doing. You don't need to establish a temple, but gradually get funds and organize. Hope this meets you in good health.

Prabhupada: No, it is not possible. Krsna accepted Himself a guru. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu accepted a guru. They are God Himself. So how you can accept: "I can approach Krsna without guru"? Guru-krsna-krpa. Krsna... When actually you want Krsna seriously-you do not know who is guru-then Krsna will give you a guru. Just like Dhruva Maharaja. He was advised by his mother that "If you go to the forest you can see God." So he went there. But when he was very serious, then Krsna sent him Narada Muni. (More...)

"What is that?" This is the process of approaching these rascals, old fools who have learned something and does not like to forget. So he says, he sadhavah: "Oh, you are such a nice, learned scholar-devotee, so my request is that whatever you have learned, please forget." Sakalam eva vihaya durat: "Kick them out." "Then? This is our business. We know they are all rascals, but they are thinking that "We know so many things. We are learned scholars." So humbly approach them and flattering, that "You are so nice man, such a learned scholar." Just like a child is flattered, "My dear boy, you are such a nice boy. You take these lozenges and return me the hundred dollar note. Don't spoil it. You are such a good boy, yes." This is our...
