no material desires

The word santa means completely peaceful. Unless all one's desires are fulfilled, one cannot be peaceful. Everyone is trying to fulfill his aspirations and desires, be they material or spiritual. Those in the material world are asanta (without peace) because they have so many desires to fulfill. The pure devotee, however, is without desire. Anyabhilasita-sunya: a pure devotee is completely free from all kinds of material desire. Karmis, on the other hand, are simply full of desires because they try to enjoy sense gratification. They are not peaceful in this life, nor the next, during the past, present or future. Similarly, jnanis are always aspiring after liberation and trying to become one with the Supreme. Yogis are aspiring after many siddhis (powers)-anima, laghima, prapti, etc. However, a devotee is not at all interested in these things because he is fully dependent on the mercy of Krsna. Krsna is yogesvara, the possessor of all mystic powers (siddhis), and He is atmarama, fully self-satisfied. The yoga-siddhis are described in this verse. One can fly in outer space without the aid of a machine, and he can travel at the speed of mind. This means that as soon as a yogi desires to go somewhere within this universe or even beyond this universe, he can do so immediately. One cannot estimate the speed of mind, for within a second the mind can go many millions of miles. Sometimes yogis enter into the bodies of other people and act as they desire when their bodies are not working properly. When the body becomes old, a perfect yogi can find a young, able body. Giving up his old body, the yogi can enter into the young body and act as he pleases. Being a plenary expansion of Lord Vasudeva, Lord Rsabhadeva possessed all these mystic yoga powers, but He was satisfied with His devotional love of Krsna, which was evinced by the ecstatic symptoms, such as crying, laughing and shivering. So that is the devotional position. Therefore it is said, atho vibhutim mama mayavinas tam aisvaryam astaṅgam anupravrttam, sriyam bhagavatim vasprhayanti bhadram. The devotees do not aspire for all these opulences. Their only aspiration is, ambition is, how to be engaged in the service of the Lord. How to be engaged. That is their... And in that way they get everything. There is no difference. When you worship Krsna-man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru [Bg 18.65], mam evaisyasi-so he has already gone. There is no difference, the worshiping of the Lord here and there. Just like in politics sometime-these are some of the examples-that in a foreign country, when you are staying in your ship, then you are not subjected to the rules of that country; you are subjected to the rules of your own country. Similarly, so long you are in devotional service, you are not subjected to the rules and regulation of this maya. Mayam etam taranti te [Bg 7.14]. Mayam etam... Mam eva ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te. Anyone who is not devotee, who is not engaged in the service of the Lord, he is under the control of maya. Pure devotees, as we have explained yesterday, they do not want anything from God. Even liberation they do not want, what to speak of this material... Therefore the philosophy of becoming the father of Krsna is very perfect. Because one hasn't got to ask, like the son asks from the father, "Father, give me this, give me this." Because devotee want..., doesn't want to ask anything from. Then how he can become son? Son business is to ask from father. Therefore they do not aspire to become the son of Godhead, but they aspire to be father of Godhead. This is perfection-Nanda Maharaja, father, Vasudeva, father. Krsna will always ask. Just like Krsna is always asking to suck the breast of Mother Yasoda. Always demanding. And if she refuses, she'll [He'll] create disturbance. And Mother Yasoda is always thinking that "If I do not feed Krsna nicely, He'll die." This is love. This is love. Therefore it is said that yesam aham priya atma sutas ca.
