Thus even if a devotee commits an abominable act, he should be considered a sadhu, or a pious man, because of his unflinching devotion to the Lord. The devotees of the Lord never willingly commit any sinful act, but sometimes they commit something abominable due to their previous habits. Such acts should not be taken very seriously, however, because the devotees of the Lord are very powerful, whether they are on the heavenly planets or on this planet. If by chance they commit something abominable, it should not be taken into account but should be overlooked.

It should be carefully noted, however, that when a person gives up all other duties and simply takes to the transcendental service of Krishna, he has no desire, and he is not subjected to, or apt to be performing, sinful activities. If, however, he performs any sinful activities-not wilfully, but by chance-then Krishna gives him all protection. He does not require to purify himself by any other method. This is confirmed in the Srimad Bhagwatam, Eleventh Canto, Fifth Chapter [11.5.42]: "A devotee who is fully engaged in the transcendental loving service of the Lord is protected by the Supreme Person. But in case such a devotee unintentionally commits some sinful activity, or may be obliged to act in some sinful activity under certain circumstances, God gives him all protection, being situated within his heart."

Unflinching faith in devotional service, in Lord Krsna and in the spiritual master makes one highly elevated in the activities of devotional service.

In the Nrsimha Purana it is stated: "If a person has completely engaged his mind, body and activities in the service of the Supreme Godhead, and externally he is found to be engaged in some abominable activities, these abominable activities will surely be very quickly vanquished by the influence of his staunch devotional force." The example is given that on the full moon there are some spots which may appear to be pockmarks. Still, the illumination spread by the full moon cannot be checked. Similarly, a little fault in the midst of volumes of devotional service is not at all to be counted as fault. Attachment for Krsna is transcendental bliss. Amidst unlimited volumes of transcendental bliss, a spot of some material defect cannot act in any way.
