[00:27] [Nitai:] "...everyone's own heart by His omnipotency.
[00:32] Because He is the almighty Personality of Godhead, eternal and unlimited,
[00:37] He is the ultimate goal of life, and by worshiping Him one can end
[00:41] the cause of conditioned state of existence."
[00:48] [Prabhupada:] Evam sva-citte svata eva siddha atma priyo 'rtho bhagavan anantaḥ, tam nirvrto niyatartho bhajeta samsara-hetūparamas ca yatra [SB 2.2.6].
[01:08] So last night we discussed that why one should bother about his maintenance
[01:21] and go to beg from a person who is very proud of his wealth.
[01:32] He can arrange his own living condition.
[01:39] The living condition is ahara-nidra-bhaya-maithunam .
[01:46] So far one is in the renounced order of life, so he should first of all renounce this sex life
[01:59] and the state of fearfulness. That is renounced.
[02:07] Just like here there are many brahmacaris, sannyasis.
[02:15] They are supposed to be renounced order, especially the sannyasi,
[02:22] and vanaprastha, brahmacari. Renounced.
[02:29] The first renunciation is to renounce sense gratification.
[02:36] Therefore the person in renounced order is called svami.
[02:43] Svami means master. Or gosvami. So go means "senses," and svami means "master."
[02:55] One who has become master of his senses, he is gosvami or svami.
[03:03] Otherwise, if one is servant of his senses, how he can be svami or gosvami?
[03:11] Every word has got meaning.
[03:15] So one has to renounce. This is material life.
[03:20] Material life means everyone is engaged for sense gratification,
[03:26] and that is taken as the advancement of civilization.
[03:33] The same sense gratification in a different way-same intoxication, same meat-eating,
[03:39] same sex life; either go to club or naked club or this club.
[03:46] Therefore the practice is the same. Punaḥ punas carvita-carvananam ,
[03:52] repetition of chewing the chewed. This is material life.
[04:01] So renounced order means to stop. Not stop; at least control sense gratification.
[04:10] That is renounced order.
[04:13] And without being in renounced order you cannot go to the spiritual world.
[04:25] Just like if your hand is there.
[04:29] You have got something which is not very good within your hand,
[04:36] and if you want to take something better, so you have to throw it away and take it,
[04:42] the better one. You cannot keep the both things. That is not possible.
[04:51] Therefore what is the difference between material life and spiritual life?
[04:57] Material life means simply full of problems, every step.
[05:06] Padam padam yad vipadam [SB 10.14.58]. Simply dangerous.
[05:11] We are riding very nicely, comfortably, in a Cadillac car or better[?] car, but
[05:18] we are riding on danger, that's all. We are driving; any moment the car may be smashed,
[05:28] especially in your country. Any moment. So shall I sit down at home? No.
[05:37] At home also there may be so many dangers. We are in dangers.
[05:43] Simply we are trying to counteract it. That is called advancement of civilization.
[05:52] The animals, they depend on nature's protection. But we are human being;
[06:00] we are utilizing our higher consciousness, higher intelligence-the same thing.
[06:08] The Russia is manufacturing, what is called, weapon, the atom bomb.
[06:18] So... Nuclear, yes. And America is also trying to.
[06:25] And the cat and dog, they are trying to protect by their nails and teeth.
[06:31] So the real question is defense. So the defense is...
[06:38] It is not that because we have got better life
[06:41] than the cats and dogs we haven't got to defend.
[06:47] We have to defend. This is..., but in a better way. Not better way-after all, we have to die.
[06:58] So, anyway, we think that it is a better way of defense.
[07:05] So material life means only busy in four things:
[07:09] how to eat, how to sleep and how to have nice sex and how to defend.
[07:17] Ahara-nidra-bhaya-maithunam ca samanyam etat pasubhir naranam .
[07:23] But these things are not solving our problems. That we do not understand.
[07:32] The problems are there. Not that we Indians, we have come to America
[07:39] to see that, very rich nation, whether they have solved their problems.
[07:45] No. There are problems-more problems than India.
[07:52] India may have only one problem, that there is...
[07:58] Actually there is no, but we are advertised that Indians are starving.
[08:05] But I have not seen anyone starving. Anyway, so the problem is there.
[08:15] The material life means problem.
[08:18] And if you want to solve the problems, then here is the prescription given: tam nirvrto niyatartho bhajeta.
[08:32] Tam means the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Then the question may be,
[08:41] "Now you have asked me to give up all endeavor for maintaining yourself,
[08:50] Sukadeva Gosvami. You have prescribed that for your food you just wait under a tree
[08:59] and he will give you some fruits; you can eat.
[09:02] For water you go to the river and drink as much water as you like."
[09:09] Then, before this verse, he said, "For sleeping there is very nice mattress, in the grass.
[09:19] And you won't require any pillow. No. You have got natural pillow, this,
[09:25] you have got your hand. You lie down."
[09:28] So, ahara-nidra-bhaya-maithunam ca.
[09:32] But if you want to advance in spiritual life, simply you have to give up this sense gratification.
[09:40] And the essence of sense gratification is sex life.
[09:44] Otherwise there is full arrangement for your eating, sleeping compartment, apartment.
[09:51] Everything is there. Temple also there, you have got. "Where is the temple?
[09:59] I want to worship God. Where is church? Where is temple?
[10:02] If I live in the cave, then I'll have to find out another means to go to the temple."
[10:08] Therefore Sukadeva Gosvami advises, "No." Evam sva-citte svata eva siddha.
[10:19] "Your, within the core of your heart, the Lord is there. You sit down anywhere-
[10:26] in the cave, in the jungle or anywhere.
[10:30] If you like, you can find out the Lord is there within your heart,
[10:36] isvaraḥ sarva-bhūtanam hrd-dese 'rjuna tisthati [Bg. 18.61].
[10:40] Krsna says that the Supreme Lord-that means He-He is situated in everyone's heart.
[10:50] If we are sincere... "We" means these living entities.
[10:57] We are also living within this body. Asmin dehe, dehino 'smi..., dehino 'smin dehe [Bg. 2.13].
[11:06] We are not this body. I am, you are, we are also situated within this body.
[11:14] And Krsna is also situated within this body. Īsvaraḥ sarva-bhūtanam hrd-dese [Bg. 18.61].
[11:21] It is not that He is situated in the heart of the Hindus and not of the others. No. Everyone.
[11:30] Sarva-bhūtanam. He is situated even in the heart of cats and dogs and tigers and others. Everyone.
[11:37] That is isvara.
[11:41] Īsvaraḥ sarva-bhūtanam hrd-dese. This verse we have repeatedly discussed-it is very, very important-
[11:49] that this body is just like a motorcar, yantra. Mayaya… Bhramayan sarva-bhūtani yantra rūḍhani mayaya [Bg. 18.61]. Mayaya.
[12:04] Through the agency of maya, material energy, this vehicle, machine, has been given to me. Why?
[12:15] Because I wanted to wander throughout the universe,
[12:20] just like they are going to the moon planet.
[12:24] So everyone has got... This is called philosophical ideas.
[12:30] Everyone, every human being, if he is at all human being, he considers.
[12:36] That is philosophical mind. He considers, "Oh, there are so many stars.
[12:40] Where... What they are doing? How many men are there? Whether there is motorcar?
[12:46] Whether there is hill, ocean?" These questions automatically come to an intelligent man.
[12:52] That is the beginning of philosophy. Natural.
[12:57] So actually that is the fact. We are traveling all over the universe.
[13:06] Not only that we have come to this planet; we have traveled many other planets.
[13:13] Otherwise, how Krsna says bhramayan, wandering; sarva-bhūtani, all living entities-
[13:22] either in the higher planetary system or this lower planetary system?
[13:27] And how he is traveling? Yantrarūḍhani. This yantra, this body. He is given body.
[13:37] Now if I want to go to the moon planet and other higher planet, yes, you will get.
[13:44] But not this yantra, your so-called teeny sputnik. No.
[13:50] You have to take the yantra, the car, the vehicle from Krsna. He will give you if you want.
[13:57] If you are serious that if you want to go to the moon planet, then you pray to Krsna
[14:04] that "Give me a yantra, or a machine, I can go to the moon planet." Then you can go.
[14:11] Otherwise, you will unnecessarily spend money and try to go somewhere
[14:17] and bring some dust, and you'll say, "Now we are triumphant." That's all.
[14:23] But if you want to go there seriously, then you'll have to prepare yourself in this life.
[14:31] Pray to the Supreme Lord, who has created all these moon and sun and other
[14:37] and this planet, and He will make you befitting, qualified to go there.
[14:43] You cannot go to the sun planet. It is very, very hot, high temperature.
[14:49] Similarly it is very, very cold in the moon planet. So how you can go with this body?
[14:56] This body means this machine. Then you have to accept another machine.
[15:01] That is the process. That is the process. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita:
[15:07] yanti deva-vrata devan pitṝn yanti pitr-vrataḥ, bhūtejya yanti bhūtani mad-yajino 'pi yanti mam [Bg. 9.25].
[15:20] Everything is clearly stated there, that if you want to go to the heavenly planets,
[15:27] or higher planetary system, they are in front of you. You can see them,
[15:34] that the sun planet is there. But you are so unqualified you cannot go there.
[15:44] But the thing is there. It is not fictitious. The temperature is there.
[15:50] The sastra description, yac-caksur esa savita sakala-grahanam [Bs. 5.52].
[15:56] Savita means the sun. He is the eye of all the planets.
[16:02] Because without sunshine you cannot see. You are very much proud of your eyes,
[16:07] but soon as there is no sun, then you are blind.
[16:14] Therefore, yac-caksur esa savita sakala-grahanam.
[16:19] Of all the planets, unless there is sunrise you cannot see.
[16:26] And the sun planet is there in front of you. Every morning we are getting the sunshine.
[16:33] Why don't you go there? Go. You have got nice 747. That you cannot.
[16:42] Then you have to pray. Īsvara, Krsna, is within your heart, and if you fervently pray...
[16:52] He is very kind. Therefore He gives you different types of vehicle. Bhramayan sarva-bhūtani yantrarūḍhani mayaya [Bg. 18.61].
[17:04] Bhramayan means wandering in every planet, in every species of life.
[17:11] Sarva-bhūtani: all species of life. There are different types of birds,
[17:15] different types of beast, different types of human being. This is called vicitra, varieties.
[17:23] God's creation is varieties.
[17:27] So if you want to go somewhere within this material world or beyond this material world,
[17:37] beyond this material world: paras tasmat tu bhavo 'nyo 'vyakto 'vyaktat sanatanaḥ [Bg. 8.20].
[17:45] Krsna giving you the information that there is another material nature, that is spiritual nature.
[17:53] Just like we have got this experience, although we could not go anywhere,
[17:58] but we see by studying geography that there are many, many, hundreds, thousands
[18:06] and millions of planets, similarly there is another nature. There are also similarly
[18:14] the same; not only same, it is three times more than in this material world.
[18:21] This is only God's one part of creation. Ekamsena sthito jagat.
[18:29] Atha va bahunaitena kim jnatena tavarjuna, vistabhyaham idam krtsnam ekamsena sthito jagat [Bg. 10.42].
[18:40] When Krsna wanted to know…, Arjuna wanted to know from Krsna, "How much Your potencies extended?
[18:49] How You are working? I want to know." Because he is inquisitive, brahma-jijnasa.
[18:59] He is trying to understand what is God. And God is personally replying.
[19:04] So He has stated in that chapter that "I am this amongst this; I am this among this; I am this..."
[19:14] Then He summarizes, that "How much I shall say? Just try to understand Me, My potency, that the…,
[19:26] this material world there are innumerable universes,
[19:31] and in each universe there are innumerable planets.
[19:35] So I want in every one of them," vistabhyaham idam krtsnam,
[19:43] "all of them, and I maintain them." Just like Krsna is situated in everyone's heart,
[19:52] then the…, similarly, Krsna is situated in everything, even within the atom. That is Krsna.
[20:02] We want to imitate Krsna. But if we are asked that
[20:06] "You enter into the atom," that I cannot do. No.
[20:13] Krsna, God, means He can become the greater than the greatest.
[20:20] We can conceive of the greatest, the universe.
[20:25] So not only this universe, but many millions of universes,
[20:32] they are being created from the holes of His bodily hair. Yasyaika-nisvasita-kalam athavalambya jivanti loma-vila-ja jagad-anḍa-nathaḥ [Bs. 5.48].
[20:45] That is God. From... You have got many millions of holes on our body... God has got,
[20:52] Maha-Visnu, and from that hole, universes are coming out continually, breathing. Yasyaika-nisvasita-kalam.
[21:02] So you must have what is the conception of God:
[21:08] greater than the greatest and smaller than the smallest. That is God.
[21:16] He can produce these big, big universes simply by breathing.
[21:22] And again-we do not know how many atoms are there in each universe-
[21:29] He can enter in each atom. Anḍantara-stha-paramanu-cayantara-stham.
[21:39] Eko 'py asau racayitum jagad-anḍa-kotim yac-chaktir asti jagad-anḍa-caya yad-antaḥ, anḍantara-stha-paramanu-cayantara-stham govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami [Bs. 5.35].
[21:53] This is the conception of God.
[21:57] So here the proposal is that we are suffering in this material world.
[22:07] We are simply thinking that "In future we shall be happy, if I do like this."
[22:15] But before that future comes, we become finished. This is our position.
[22:21] Not only once, but many times. And still you have opinion. Just like the so-called scientists.
[22:27] "Millions of years' gap, then this will be happening, this will be happening..." No.
[22:33] These are all nonsense. Then how-your age is fifty or sixty years-
[22:40] how you are conceiving millions of years? Your fifty, sixty years of age
[22:48] will be millions time finished before you realize the truth. But the so-called
[22:55] scientists, they are thinking, "No, this fifty, sixty years is a large extent of span of life."
[23:04] In that way you cannot understand. That is not possible. Ciram vicinvan.
[23:10] If you speculate in that foolish way for ciram, eternally, still you cannot understand. Ciram vicinvan.
[23:22] Athapi te deva padambuja-dvaya-prasada-lesanugrhita eva hi, janati tattvam bhagavan-mahimno na canya eko 'pi ciram vicinvan [SB 10.14.29].
[23:34] Ciram means "eternally." If you speculate to understand God by your tiny brain
[23:41] and limited sense perception, it will be not.
[23:46] So take the prescription of the sastra if you want.
[23:52] The first is that you must give up material attachment. Nivrtta… [aside:] Take this.
[24:03] Material attachment, so long I will be attracted by material things,
[24:10] Krsna will give me a relative body. Tatha dehantara-praptir.
[24:19] If we want this temporary material enjoyment, then according to the body
[24:26] there is enjoyment. In the ant's life there is also the same thing:
[24:32] eating, sleeping, sex and defense. And in the Lord Indra's, or the king Indra, the heavenly king,
[24:42] he has got the same propensity-eating, sleeping, mating and defense.
[24:48] So if you go to the moon planet or sun planet or the topmost planets, wherever you go,
[24:55] the four things will follow: eating, sleeping, mating, defense,
[25:02] and birth, death, old age and disease. So, so long we shall remain in this material world,
[25:14] I may be Lord Indra, Lord Brahma or President of America or this or that,
[25:22] you cannot avoid these four things. That is material existence. That is the problem.
[25:29] But if you want to solve the problem, then this is the process given: the nivrtta. Anyabhilasita-sūnyam.
[25:40] Don't aspire for material enjoyment. Enjoyment is there.
[25:48] Don't think that "If I stop my material enjoyment then my life of enjoyment is finished."
[25:56] No. It is not finished. Just like a diseased man: he is also eating, he is also sleeping,
[26:09] he is also having other duties.
[26:12] But that his eating, sleeping and a healthy man's eating, sleeping is not the same thing.
[26:21] Similarly, our material enjoyment, the eating, sleeping, mating and defense,
[26:30] that is with…, full of dangers. We cannot enjoy without any hindrance.
[26:41] There are so many hindrances. So if we want that uninterrupted happiness... Happiness is there.
[26:52] Just like a diseased man, he is also eating and the healthy man is eating.
[26:59] But he is having bitter taste. A man with jaundice, if you give him sugar candy,
[27:08] he will taste as bitter. That is a fact.
[27:14] But the same person who is cured from the jaundice disease, he will taste it very sweet.
[27:22] Similarly, in the material condition of life there are so many inebrieties.
[27:29] We cannot enjoy life fully.
[27:31] If you want full enjoyment of life, then you must come to the spiritual platform. Duḥkhalayam asasvatam [Bg. 8.15].
[27:42] This material world has been described in the Bhagavad-gita that this is duḥkhalayam.
[27:50] It is the place of miseries. Then if you say, "No, I have made arrangement.
[27:58] I have got now nice bank balance. My wife is very nice. My children are also very nice.
[28:06] So I don't mind. I shall remain in the material world," Krsna says, asasvatam:
[28:12] "No, sir, you cannot live here. You will be kicked out." Duḥkhalayam asasvatam.
[28:20] If you agree to stay here in this miserable condition of life, that is also not allowed.
[28:28] No permanent settlement. Tatha dehantara-praptir.
[28:32] So these problems, where is the scientist discussing about these problem?
[28:38] But the problems are there. Who wants to give up whatever family he has got?
[28:45] Everyone has got family, but nobody wants to give up his family.
[28:51] But by force he is taken away. The man is crying, "I am now going. I am now dying.
[29:01] What will happen to my wife, my children?" He is forced. He must get out.
[29:10] So this is the problem. So where is the solution of the problem?
[29:15] There is no solution of the problem.
[29:18] If you want solution of the problem, then Krsna says,
[29:23] mam upetya kaunteya duḥkhalayam asasvatam, napnuvanti mahatmanaḥ samsiddhim paramam gataḥ [Bg. 8.15].
[29:33] "If one comes to Me," mam upetya, "then he hasn't got to come to, again,
[29:41] in this material world full of miseries."
[29:46] So here Sukadeva Gosvami is suggesting that you become devotee.
[29:52] Your all problems will be solved.
