SPD04-13
[13:02 minutes]
[4:30] [Madhudvisa:] Not too many flowering varieties.
[04:31] [Prabhupada:] Eh?
[04:32] [Madhudvisa:] Not too many flowering varieties here, Prabhupada.
[04:35] [Prabhupada:] No, not speaking of flowering; I mean to say varieties, plants
[04:41] and creepers. Two millions. Laksa-vimsati. Ten lakhs equal to one million,
[04:54] and vimsati, twenty lakhs.
[05:04] [Hari-sauri:] There was one newspaper article in the papers I was reading. They were advertising a new book about the evolution of man. And they were
[05:12] saying that there was approximately two million varieties of life on this
[05:15] planet. This was the calculation of the scientists.
[05:19] [Prabhupada:] Two millions? No, 8,400,000.
[05:28] [Srutakirti:] You were saying the other day that all the species of life are
[05:31] mentioned in the Padma-Purana.
[05:33] [Prabhupada:] Yes.
[05:34] [Srutakirti:] They're all given account of. [break]
[05:41] [Prabhupada:] ...on the total?
[05:42] [Hari-sauri:] Only approximation.
[05:44] [Srutakirti:] An estimate. [break]
[05:52] [Hari-sauri:] ...of this so-called missing link between the
[05:54] evolution from ape to man. They have given one drawing of a species looking
[05:59] like a man but hunched like an ape. And they're claiming this is...
[06:05] [Prabhupada:] Where they have got it?
[06:06] [Hari-sauri:] ...this type of personality was existing millions of years ago. [break]
[06:13] [Amogha:] ...what is the distinguishing characteristic that makes one different from another? How could
[06:17] we recognize them? Or could we?
[06:20] [Prabhupada:] You have not seen varieties of men?
[06:22] [Amogha:] Yes.
[06:23] [Prabhupada:] Then, what is the...
[06:24] [Amogha:] Well, is it divided by country, or within one country there are many species?
[06:30] [Prabhupada:] You are taking of country, but the sastra takes of the planets,
[06:37] not of the country. Your idea is very crippled: "country," "national." But
[06:44] sastra is not... There is no such thing as national. They take the whole
[06:50] universe as a whole. They consider from that angle of vision. These
[07:01] crippled ideas, "state," "national," has come later on. There was no such
[07:06] thing previously. One planet or universe, like that. Just like last night
[07:19] the girl was astonished that "How this planet can be governed by one
[07:26] king?" It was being actually done. And the whole universe is being
[07:32] governed by Brahma, one person. So one must know how to govern.
[07:41] [Devotee 1:] We can see, Srila Prabhupada, by the distribution of wealth
[07:45] and minerals in each loka, in each planet, it is meant to be governed by
[07:48] one ruler. One place there is gold, one place grains grow. Is this true?
[07:55] [Prabhupada:] No. Everywhere there is everything, may be proportionately in
[08:00] different quantities. [break]
[08:06] [Hari-sauri:] ...with all the other demigods, like they are departmental heads? So he is not personally directing every single thing.
[08:14] [Prabhupada:] Yes, he is given in charge. Just like we have got different
[08:19] GBCs for different jobs. Similarly, they are doing their duty nicely. All
[08:28] these planets are the different residential quarter of different demigods.
[08:38] They are controlling the whole universal affairs. In comparison to them,
[08:44] this human being is nothing. [break]
[08:49] [Hari-sauri:] ...of life, even by the demigods?
[08:51] [Prabhupada:] Yes, because very good chance of realizing God in the human
[08:58] form of life. Just like difference between Western country and India.
[09:07] India, a very quick chance of realization of God. The atmosphere is so
[09:14] nice. So this planet is good for God realization, and the best place is in India. [break]
[09:31] [Devotee 2:] ...by the rains all good things come, and the rains come because of good yajna.
[09:38] So in this planet everybody is meat-eating, or in this country everybody
[09:42] is performing sinful activities.
[09:44] [Prabhupada:] Therefore it is decreasing. The more you are becoming sinful,
[09:47] the rain will decrease.
[09:49] [Devotee 2:] So it is decreasing now.
[09:50] [Prabhupada:] Yes. And at the end there will be no rain. Then this whole
[09:57] planet will be ablaze with fire. That is the beginning of destruction.
[10:07] If it rains heavily during daytime and at night you see the stars,
[10:15] then you should know there will be scarcity of rain. There will be
[10:21] scarcity of rain and scarcity of food grains. Best thing is at night there
[10:30] must be heavy rain, and daytime, there should be sunshine. Then the field
[10:37] will be very fertile. [break] That is knowledge. But
[10:43] they have no knowledge. They simply want to enjoy. They do not care for
[10:48] death also. Simply sense gratification. That's all. This is called danava,
[10:58] danava life.
[11:01] [Hari-sauri:] They were simply approximating. They said from recent
[11:05] discoveries and examination of fossils, and like this...
[11:10] [Prabhupada:] That's all right.
[11:11] [Hari-sauri:] ...they made their calculation.
[11:12] [Prabhupada:] Why there are varieties?
[11:13] [Amogha:] They say originally there was just a cell, and by adaptation in
[11:19] some circumstances, one kind would live and another would die. So all
[11:23] these varieties adapted to different conditions.
[11:25] [Prabhupada:] Who adapted? Who managed?
[11:27] [Amogha:] Well, they just... Accidentally.
[11:29] [Prabhupada:] Ah, that is nonsense. Nothing happens accidentally. That is
[11:33] nonsense. There must be some arrangement. What is happening accidentally?
[11:40] Why you are taking care of these trees? So many things. Nothing is done
[11:47] accidentally. You do not see the cause. Let accidentally
[11:55] money come, and sit down. Why do they not do that? "If
[12:03] accident is there, let accident come, and I will become rich man." Why they
[12:10] try? Why they go to the college? Let accidentally you become M.A., Ph.D.
[12:18] This is all rascaldom.
[12:20] Activity plus sanction of God-two things. There are five
[12:25] causes: the activity, the place, the proportion of energy and, ultimately,
[12:37] sanction by God. Then things happen. Otherwise, there is no question of accident.
