Prabhupada:
...nanavataram akarod bhuvanesu kintu
krsnaḥ svayam samabhavat paramaḥ puman yo govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami [Bs 5.39] Ramadi-mūrtisu. Krsna has got innumerable expansion. Some of Them are called visnu-tattva, and some of them are called jiva-tattva. He has got innumerable expansions. The visnu-tattva expansion, They are as good as Krsna. But jiva-tattva we are jiva-tattva, we are also expansions of Krsna, just like the whole human race is expansion of some forefather, Manu. From manu, man. This is also Sanskrit. Manu, man. In Sanskrit, manusya, man.
So similarly, the original father, original progenitor, is Krsna; and from His expansion there are innumerable. Some of them are called svamsa. Svamsa means personal expansion. And some of them are vibhinnamsa, separated expansions. We are separated expansions, but we are also Krsna's expansions.
So Krsna appears, ramadi-mūrtisu, as Lord Ramacandra, as Varaha, as Kūrma, as Nrsimhadeva, as Matsya-so many. Ramadi-mūrtisu kala-niyamena tisthan. So He is always existing with so many expansions. None of the expansions are at any time vanquished, they are existing always. We are also existing. After this body also we shall continue to exist. Krsna svayam samabhavat paramaḥ puman yo. But Krsna, when He appears, He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami.
So krsnas tu bhagavan svayam [SB 1.3.28]. In the Srimad-Bhagavatam, there is list of incarnations. You should read all this, in the Third Chapter, First Volume. And when Krsna's name is there, it is said, krsnas tu bhagavan svayam. Ete camsa kala pumsam krsnas tu bhagavam svayam. All this list of names, they are expansions of Krsna. But this name, "Krsna," He is the original Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is the meaning of govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami: "I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord." Hmm. [end]
