Generally all women desire material enjoyment. They are called less intelligent because they are mostly prone to material enjoyment. Devahūti is lamenting her position. As a woman, she had to love someone. Somehow or other, she came to love Kardama Muni, but without knowing of his spiritual advancement. Kardama Muni could understand Devahūti's heart; generally all women desire material enjoyment. They are called less intelligent because they are mostly prone to material enjoyment. Devahūti laments because her husband had given her the best kind of material enjoyment, but she did not know that he was so advanced in spiritual realization. Her plea was that even though she did not know the glories of her great husband, because she had taken shelter of him she must therefore be delivered from material entanglement. Association with a great personality is most important. In Caitanya-caritamrta Lord Caitanya says that sadhu-sahga, the association of a great saintly person, is very important, because even if one is not advanced in knowledge, simply by association with a great saintly person one can immediately make considerable advancement in spiritual life. As a woman, as an ordinary wife, Devahūti became attached to Kardama Muni in order to satisfy her sense enjoyment and other material necessities, but actually she associated with a great personality. Now she understood this, and she wanted to utilize the advantage of the association of her great husband.

There are four Vedas-Sama, Yajuḥ, Rk, Atharva-and Mahabharata is the fifth Veda. And the essence of Vedic knowledge is given within the Mahabharata, this Bhagavad-gita. So although woman is inferior than the man, still, the Vedic civilization is so perfect that the man, as father, as husband or as son, takes care, full care of the woman. This is Vedic civilization. Therefore it is said that matuḥ priya-cikirsaya. The son was ready always to see that "Mother is not unhappy. My father has gone away. So she may not feel the absence of my father." This very word is very significant, matuḥ priya-cikirsaya. She was..., He was always ready to take care of the mother. And the best care is to give her knowledge. Because women are supposed to be less intelligent, therefore they should be given knowledge. And they should also follow. They should follow the father's instruction, they should follow the husband's instruction, they should follow grown-up, learned scholar like Kapiladeva. Then their life is perfect. Dependent. Remain dependent.

That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita, that in the society women, working class and the mercantile class, they are, according to Vedic scripture, they are less intelligent-women, working class and mercantile men. Just like mercant..., they are after money, that's all. And sūdra, they want..., after job. And woman means they are after fulfilling their material desires. They have no other idea, that there is Brahman, one should know Brahman. They do not care to know. Therefore they are called sūdras..., stri, sūdra, vaisya.
(More...) So it is not blocked for anyone. Anyone can get Krsna consciousness. Anyone can go back to home, back to Godhead, provided you follow the regulative principle. Then it is possible for everyone. It doesn't matter whether he's woman, whether he's working class, whether he's a sūdra or a brahmana. It doesn't matter. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita, that "Even they can go. And what to speak of the brahmanas?" Kim punar brahmanaḥ punya bhakta rajarsayaḥ... [Bg 9.33]. If the brahmanas, they cultivate spiritual knowledge, it becomes very easy for them. Even they can go, sūdras, stri, vaisya. These are all the statement.
