book on the orign of life

Imported quote 22781
Satsvarūpa: "Human intellect is developed for advancement of learning in art, science, philosophy, physics, chemistry, psychology, economics, politics, etc. By culture of such knowledge the human society can attain perfection of life. This perfection of life culminates in the realization of the Supreme Being, Visnu. The sruti therefore directs that those who are actually advanced in learning should aspire for the service of Lord Visnu. Unfortunately, persons who are enamored by the external beauty of visnu-maya do not understand that culmination of perfection, or self-realization, depends on Visnu. Visnu-maya means sense enjoyment, which is transient and miserable. Those who are entrapped by the visnu-maya utilize advancement of knowledge for sense enjoyment. Sri Narada Muni has explained that all paraphernalia of the cosmic universe is but an emanation from the Lord out of His different energies, because the Lord has set in motion, by His inconceivable energy, actions and reactions of the created manifestation. They have come to be out of His energy, they rest on His energy, and after annihilation they merge into Him. Nothing is, therefore, different from Him, but at the same time the Lord is always different from them.    (More...)
Prabhupada: If you are scientist, you create a similar brain like you. That you cannot do. But somebody has created your brain. And who is that person? Professor Einstein, big scientist, but he could not create another Professor Einstein so that after his death the work would continue. Because the brain creator, the brain of scientist created by somebody, that is not in your hand. You cannot create another similar brain. That is not possible. But if you are surprised with the mechanical arrangement of the small watch, why you should not study the mechanical arrangement of a great scientist? But as the mechanical arrangement of the watch is made by some brain, similarly, your brain or Professor Einstein's brain, that is also made by another scientist. And who is that scientist? We are glorifying the brain of the scientist, but we are not glorifying the scientist who has made the brain of the scientist.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: That's why we title our book as The Origin of Life in Matter. We do not talk simply "life" because...    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: The title is The Origin of Life and Matter, and then there will be a subtitle called "Life is a Manifestation of Life Only."    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: "Life is a Manifestation of Life Only." I mean "Life Comes from Life."    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: Then we have some tentative titles of the chapters, and the first one is "A Unique Differentiation between a Living Spirit and a Non-living Matter."    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: This will be tentatively planned to be write by me, and the second chapter is "The Eternality of the Living." That's also by me. And then the third chapter, it is called "A Look at the Natural Laws Regarding the Origin of Life and Matter." In this there are different sections. First section is "Quantum Mechanical Demonstration." That will be written by Richard Prabhu. He's a mathematician.    (More...)
Prabhupada: That theory, mathematics, you presented...    (More...)
Prabhupada: So it is very nice. You have dedicated to Hare Krsna. Then?    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: The second one is "Order Cannot Arise from Disorder." This will be based on mathematical arguments.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: And third one is "The Statistical Disproof of Darwin's Theory." This is on advanced mathematics. That also Richard Prabhu's duty.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: And then on fourth chapter we have a section called "False Theory," namely that life originates from matter. This will be Madhava Prabhu's...    (More...)
Prabhupada: About false theory. [laughter] Very good. Very good. It will be very nice. You have all Krsna's blessing, do it nicely.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: Then from fifth chapter it will be "Evolution Versus Transmigration."    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: And explanation. That will be written by me.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: And then on the sixth chapter there will be a topic called "Molecular Evolution." This will be, taking the jumbles of the scientific findings, but we use those jumbles and turn around to Krsna.    (More...)
Prabhupada: That is vrscika-tanḍula-nyaya. Is not that? The last chapter, what he means?    (More...)
Prabhupada: Hah. Molecular evolution takes place when the life is there.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: Actually when they say molecular evolution, it talks only about molecules. They don't talk about life. Because they don't know what life is.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: So they talk only about molecules. That everybody knows, that molecules are around and it's evolving. But they don't know that there is life. They take...    (More...)
Prabhupada: That is their defect. That is their defect. We want to educate them on this point.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: And on the seventh chapter there is that Prabhupada's..., that theory of acintya-sakti.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: That will be a collective effort of all the prabhus from the movement.    (More...)
Prabhupada: Yes, acintya-sakti is there, within our body.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: We want to present it in some sort of very good arguments, foundations are there. It will be our collective effort.    (More...)
Rūpanuga: There is another devotee, Jnana dasa, in Germany, who is a graduate from Oxford University, a big school. And we have invited him to come to this meeting, but he did not respond. Maybe he will come and help in the future.    (More...)
Rūpanuga: He has... What is his field?    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: Oh, yes. His topic was classical, statistical [indistinct] proof. That was allotted to Jnana dasa Prabhu, to Germany. Rūpanuga Maharaja sent a telegram, and I also personally wrote a letter saying that he should participate in writing himself[?]. He has a [indistinct] background, he told me in [indistinct].    (More...)
Prabhupada: This I want. You are nicely educated. Now by dint of your education, you prove that background is Krsna, that's all. Then your education will be perfect. Otherwise you are one of these fools and rascals, that's all. The particular type of education, mathematics, chemistry, physics, what you have learned after working so hard, now you should, by your educational..., departmental education, you prove that the background is Krsna. Then your education is perfect. That is the verse, idam hi pumsas tapasaḥ srutasya va.    (More...)
Prabhupada: Nature, visnu-maya, nature. They're bewildered simply by seeing the nature. Then?    (More...)
Satsvarūpa: "Therefore, all the sages and devotees of the Lord have recommended that the subject matter of art, science, philosophy, physics, chemistry, psychology and all other branches of knowledge should be wholly and solely applied in the service of the Lord. Art, literature, poetry, painting, etc., may be used in glorifying the Lord. The fiction writers, poets and celebrated litterateurs are generally engaged in writing of sensuous topics, but if they turn towards the service of the Lord they can describe the transcendental pastimes of the Lord. Valmiki was a great poet, and similarly Vyasadeva is a great writer, and both of them have absolutely engaged themselves in delineating the transcendental activities of the Lord, and by so doing they have become immortal. Similarly, science and philosophy also should be applied in the service of the Lord. There is no use presenting dry speculative theories for sense gratification. Philosophy and science should be engaged to establish the glory of the Lord. Advanced people are eager to understand the Absolute Truth through the medium of science, and therefore a great scientist should endeavor to prove the existence of the Lord on a scientific basis. Similarly, philosophical speculations should be utilized to establish the Supreme Truth as sentient and all-powerful. Similarly, all other branches of knowledge should always be engaged in the service of the Lord. In the Bhagavad-gita also the same is affirmed. All 'knowledge' not engaged in the service of the Lord is but nescience. Real utilization of advanced knowledge is to establish the glories of the Lord, and that is the real import. Scientific knowledge engaged in the service of the Lord and all other similar activities are all factually hari-kirtana, or glorification of the Lord."    (More...)
Prabhupada: That is perfection. If you can write this book nicely, all together, it will be a great service to Krsna. And Krsna will bless you and help you.    (More...)
Rūpanuga: [to Svarūpa Damodara] Will you read the rest of the chapters?    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: Then in the eighth chapter there will be...    (More...)
Prabhupada: Just make that Dr. Agarwal also interested.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: "Defects and Errors in Scientific Research," it will be a title, and we will find out all the mistakes that normally found in scientific research. That will be written by Madhava Prabhu.    (More...)
Prabhupada: And add "and how to make it perfect." Find out the defects. Don't be, what is called...?    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: No, we want to bring the..., our four defects in our senses, in the sense perception. Then...    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: Yes, there are four defects.    (More...)
Prabhupada: And if you go beyond the sense perception, that is perfection.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: That will be Madhava Prabhu's duty.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: Then on the ninth chapter there will be a topic, "The Ultimate Research," our own[?] research.    (More...)
Prabhupada: Ultimate research is to find out the brain.    (More...)
Prabhupada: That's it. Absolute. Then there is no more defect. Everything is perfect. That is stated, dhamna svena sada nirasta-kuhakam param satyam dhimahi. Nirasta-kuhakam, where there is no defect, that is vaikuntha-dhama. Dhamna svena nirasta-kuhakam param satyam dhimahi. The Absolute Truth, we offer our respectful... That is the beginning of Bhagavatam. Nirasta-kuhakam, where these defects cannot enter. Just like sunshine. In the sun, darkness cannot enter. There is no possibility of darkness going there. Is it possible? So similarly, in Krsna, krsna sūrya-sama maya andhakara [Cc Madhya 22.31], there is no question of defect there.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: Yeah, in this respect I wanted to base this on [indistinct]... that ultimate research, that brahma-jijnasa.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: That is the research topic.    (More...)
Prabhupada: Hmm. Now this subject matter should be taken up seriously in the human form of life. That is the suggestion. Atha..., atha, ataḥ, now you have got this human form of life, therefore you discuss about the Absolute Truth. Param satyam dhimahi. Yes?    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: Next one is, next chapter is "Matter Originates from Life." That Madhava dasa Prabhu's. And on the eleventh chapter there will be Rūpanuga Maharaj, Prabhu's...    (More...)
Prabhupada: Matter is a manifestation of life's energy. We can daily experience: the matter, hair, is growing. Cut, again growing. Why? Because there is life. Dead body, hair never grows. Is it not?    (More...)
Madhava: Well, the scientists will say it's just recombination of matter.    (More...)
Prabhupada: Whatever it may be, when there is body dead, no hair grows.    (More...)
Prabhupada: They can use some bombastic word, but they, who is layman, we see this is the position. And you do not know how it is being done, but the energy is there in you. That is called acintya-sakti, inconceivable energy. That is there. Now you shave every morning, and next morning, again millions of hairs. You do not know how it is being happened. But it is happening, and this is called acintya-sakti. From Krsna such big, big things are coming out. Even Krsna may not know, but Krsna has got the inconceivable energy by which it is coming. The same example.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: The last but one is called, entitled, "Intellectual Analagam[?], Psycho-Social Implications." That will be Rūpanuga...    (More...)
Rūpanuga: It was their idea. In a book like this there has to be some social conclusion as to the effects of such atheistic theories.    (More...)
Prabhupada: Yes, the people are being misguided. That we want to stop. They have got this human form of body, that is an opportunity to understand himself and God and act accordingly. Now they are being misled. It is a social disservice. Cheating. In the name of scientist, they are exploiting this innocent person, taking their money and spoiling it without any good result.    (More...)
Rūpanuga: My idea is that they are... Actually, the scientists are preaching void. They are preaching to the people...    (More...)
Prabhupada: But what is the necessity of preaching void? Void is void, that's all.    (More...)
Rūpanuga: There's nothing to say about that. But because they're saying that, the people think that at the time of death there's nothing, so they want sense gratification. So the scientists are selling them their gadgets. They're selling them cars and things to keep them in sense gratification.    (More...)
Prabhupada: We can see when a man is in coma, he cries, he suffers. Before death, when a man is coma, sometimes tears come. Now why he says there is nothing? Imperfect knowledge, that's all. Misguiding people.    (More...)
Rūpanuga: The last chapter's the nicest.    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: The last chapter is-that Srila Prabhupada suggested-that was "The Original Idea Is Krsna."    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: That is the concluding chapter. That will be a collective effort from the...    (More...)
Prabhupada: That's nice. Very good. Do it. Sincerely pray to Krsna and He will give intelligence. Now write nicely. Tesam satata-yuktanam, dadami buddhi-yogam [Bg 10.10], Krsna will give intelligence, yena mam upayanti te, "such intelligence which will help him to come back home, back to Me."    (More...)
Rūpanuga: If we are strong in the principles, then we will have the intelligence to write this book.    (More...)
Satsvarūpa: "To those who are constantly devoted and worship Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me."    (More...)
Prabhupada: It may take, that is... But do it very nicely. How many pages will it be?    (More...)
Prabhupada: That's nice. Then we shall immediately publish. What the title you have given?    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: It's called The Origin of Life and Matter. The origin of everything. When one talks about the life here in the material world, one cannot leave matter. Because the scientists, what they are doing, is the materialists taken it for granted. They do not ask who made this matter. So they've started at, "Oh, matter is already there, given by nature." So they'll take the matter and then start life. That is their conclusion. So we want to bring it that matter is also from life.    (More...)
Prabhupada: No, how you'll find it? Give me. Unless you have an index list... The purport of the verse is that even Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu-He is God Himself-He felt, alone, unable to do this task. He felt. So this is the position. You are cooperating; therefore I am getting the credit. Otherwise, alone what could I do? Ekaki amara nahi paya bolo. Caitanya Mahaprabhu Himself wanted our cooperation. He is God, Krsna. And therefore cooperation is very important thing. Nobody should think that "I have got so great ability. I can do." No. It is simply by cooperation we can do very big thing. "United we stand; divided we fall." This is our... So be strong in pushing on Krsna consciousness, and Krsna will help. He is the strongest. Still, we must be combined together. Sahkirtana. Sahkirtana means many men combined together chanting. That is sahkirtana. Otherwise kirtana. Sahkirtana. Bahubhir militva kirtayati sahkirtana. Bahu. Bahu means many; many combined together. That is Caitanya Mahaprabhu's mission: combined together. All nations, all persons, they should combine together. There is hope in our Society, combination. There are Hindus; there are Muslims; there are Christians; there are black, white. Combine them. That looks very beautiful, just like combination of many flowers. There is black flower also. It looks nice, very nice. Each and every flower take alone, it is not beautiful, but when they are combined together, it looks very beautiful. It is attractive. And that is wanted. Because from the spiritual platform we are all working. Panḍitaḥ sama-darsinaḥ [Bg 5.18].    (More...)
Svarūpa Damodara: We plan to have our book about five hundred pages. And we should finish it by fall. We feel it's major work. The difficult part is that establish from science, comparative study... And we have finished that. Next stage is... It's not very difficult. It's about, they call, fossil, these bones. We're going to say something about it, but that's not much. Then conclusion...    (More...)
Please accept my blessings. I am in due receipt of your letter dated July 21, 1969, and I have noted the contents carefully. I am very pleased to learn that you have been nicely assisting Rupanuga, and now the Buffalo center is gradually becoming very successful. It is very encouraging. It is a fact that wherever we go, if we simply let the people hear our chanting and if we repeat what we have heard from the bona fide Spiritual Master, then surely many, many sincere souls will become attracted to our movement. This is because Krishna Consciousness is lying dormant in every living entity, just like fire is dormant within a match. If we simply strike the match, then the fire within will come in blazing light. Our method of striking the match is Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare. This vibration is sufficient to awaken the sleeping spirit soul to the fact that Krishna is there, and if we try to remember Him always and spread His message of Bhagavad-gita, then our life becomes perfect and we are perfectly executing our position as part and parcel of the Lord. So if you let all the residents of Buffalo hear the sound of Hare Krishna and read our literatures, then there will be the greatest all-around benefit. This past weekend in San Francisco there was a gigantic Rathayatra Ceremony just on the order of the one held at Jagannatha Puri, and at least 10,000 people were chanting and dancing along with us in full transcendental ecstasy. The boys and girls of America are generally good souls, that is why they have taken birth in such a nice country, and now they should make perfect all of their opulences by engaging everything in Krishna Consciousness. This will be the finishing touch for all the nice qualities found in the American people. In New York I understand that they have sold 3,000 copies of BTG in just two weeks, and I understand that in Buffalo you are also selling BTG very nicely. So please continue in this way and your success in life is assured. As Krishna sees that you are working very seriously to bring His other children back to the Spiritual Kingdom, then He will become very pleased and will bestow all blessings upon you. Krishna is never ungrateful for our efforts to serve Him, rest assured. Regarding your question about Bhava Shakti developing into Prema, this is covered in our book, Nectar of Devotion, and there is no necessity for you to trouble yourself over such advanced topics at the present time.    (More...)
Hoping this will meet you and your good wife, Himavati, in good health and happiness.
With blessings for my good daughter Himavati.

n.b. I have just now received one letter which has described your GBC meeting of nine men in New York, and I have cabled Rupanuga the following message: "GBC Meeting irregular. My strong disapproval, Make no changes. Inform others. Letter follows.'' So you can understand that I am very much perplexed why you have done these things without consulting me in the matter. If every time someone feels something they call for changing everything, then all that I have done will very quickly be lost. so for the time being there shall be no such changes as you have arranged, until I study the matter thoroughly.
ACBS.

Please accept my blessings. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter from Cleveland dated June 26, 1972 and I have noted the contents with great pleasure. Similarly I have received such nice letters from Rupanuga and Hrdayananda, and I am very much satisfied that you are all feeling the serious nature of this Sannyasi mission. So far you are concerned, I am especially stressing the importance of our Dallas Gurukula for training up the next generation of Krishna Consciousness preachers. This is the most important task ahead. I am seeing practically how wonderful the children are coming out. Therefore, we shall be very, very vigilant and careful to maintain the highest standard of temple atmosphere and conduct in Dallas. You may install Radha-Krishna Deities and worship Them very, very gorgeously. Simply by associating with the elderly members, the children will learn everything. So, the quality of the elderly members must be also very much to the standard of excellent Vaisnavas; otherwise, the children learn by example and they will very easily be misguided if their senior god-brothers and god-sisters are themselves neglectful. I shall certainly come there to Dallas to see how things are going on as soon as there is opportunity. We must develop our Krishna Consciousness school at Dallas to be the model for education in all the world, and let anyone see our Krishna Consciousness children and they will immediately understand the importance and necessity for such education amongst the citizens at large. Otherwise, the children of your country and other countries, they are simply growing up to be sophisticated animals, so what good will their education do? But if they will agree to try to understand our Krishna Consciousness education or way of life and allow their children to be educated by us, they will see them come out as the topmost citizens with all good qualities such as honesty, cleanliness, truthfulness, loyalty, etc. So that is a very important work and you are especially responsible to make it successful. All other GBC men should give you all assistance for building up the standard there.
You mention that you are no longer much occupied with seeing that the rent and mortgage is paid and that the incense is sold, but GBC means to be occupied with everything in the zone. It is not that now we are preachers we can neglect all other points. No, the GBC member is supposed to know everything and anything about the condition and situation of all matters within his jurisdiction. That is the meaning of secretary. So because we are engaged in many fields of activity I am especially relying upon that knowledge of my GBC assistants and secretaries to manage everything properly. But if we do not take time to understand how the financial matters are going on, then at any moment we may experience some calamity due to our inattention to these matters. Therefore, you should try to keep yourself always informed how the financial matters are improving and keep your watchful eye on every feature of our Krishna Consciousness activity. That is also part of preaching work. I am also preaching daily. But I am at the same time managing everything, seeing the statements of accounts, going to the bank, giving advice on every topic, like that. Just now I have purchased one apartment house with seven apartments just adjacent to the L.A. temple and very soon we shall invest in similar properties. So practically there is no question of my neglecting the financial matters of the society, and similarly, you shall do as I am doing. That is your real business. So far your question, Yes, it is good to be prepared with a well-thought lecture in advance. However, we must be able to preach effectively at a moment's notice or under any conditions or circumstances also. As you begin to study the Sanskrit words, in each word you will find a treasure house of different understanding.
Hoping this will meet you in good health.
Your ever well-wisher,
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami

Please accept my blessings. I beg to thank you for your presentation of two books, Krishna Lila he Lila Varnanani and Krishna Lila Vimarsa. I have gone through some of the pages of these books. It is done very scholarly. We are presenting Krishna consciousness all over the world. In future many devotees will be interested to read your books. We understand from the Srimad-Bhagavatam that everyone should utilize his talent in the service of the uttamasloka, Krishna.

Learned circles have positively concluded that the infallible purpose of the advancement of knowledge, namely austerities, study of the Vedas, sacrifice, chanting of hymns and charity, culminates in the transcendental descriptions of the Lord, who is defined in choice poetry.'' (Bhag. 1.5.22)

Sunday feast is so blissful. The cooks begin Lord Jagannatha's preparations Saturday evening and engage into the night. By your unlimited causeless mercy we arise for another Sunday feast anticipating the day's program. Krsna's floors are waxed and walls scrubbed. Srila Prabhupada, all these temples should be the most opulent places of worship. Please help us always to do the needful in keeping Krsna's temples spotless. Dotis are fresh, and heads are always shaved, except on Ekadasi. As soon as guests arrive they receive full greetings and are engaged in hearing Krsna's pastimes, viewing these sublime literatures and cleaning, painting or helping serve the feast. All attend ecstatic feast aratrika. Our lecture program is followed by a transcendental play or slide show. Plays done for your pleasure are always so nice. Always there are nice varieties of prasadam for Lord Jagannatha. After the feast relished in bliss, many continue listening to the devotees, some explore Krsna Books and Bhagavatams, and the rest attend an aratrika some Sundays going for two hours. All glories to your inconceivable mercy. Godbrothers are always after feast relishing so much this Krsna consciousness, and when there is more prasadam than is taken it is offered to surrounding communes which now relish the devotees' Sunday visits. This Sunday feast is such an exciting vehicle for spreading this ocean of mercy, and it would be so nice to expand this program.    (More...)
