position, remain in own

A sincere person who follows this method is far better situated than the false pretender who adopts show-bottle spiritualism to cheat the innocent public.
On the other hand, he who controls the senses by the mind and engages his active organs in works of devotion, without attachment, is by far superior.    (More...)
Instead of becoming a pseudo-transcendentalist for the sake of wanton living and sense enjoyment, it is far better to remain in one's own business and execute the purpose of life, which is to get free from material bondage and enter into the kingdom of God. The prime svartha-gati, or goal of self-interest, is to reach Visnu. The whole institution of varna and asrama is designed to help us reach this goal of life. A householder can also reach this destination by regulated service in Krsna consciousness. For self-realization, one can live a controlled life, as prescribed in the sastras, and continue carrying out his business without attachment, and in that way make progress. Such a sincere person who follows this method is far better situated than the false pretender who adopts show-bottle spiritualism to cheat the innocent public. A sincere sweeper in the street is far better than the charlatan meditator who meditates only for the sake of making a living.    (More...)

One may remain situated in his own place or his own occupational duty and still lend his ear to receive the message of the Lord from realized souls. The Krsna conscious movement is based on this principle, and we are opening centers all over the world to give everyone a chance to hear the message of Lord Krsna in order to go back home, back to Godhead.    (More...)

The conclusion is that even if one is busy executing his occupational duty, his business in Krsna consciousness need not be hampered. He has simply to execute the devotional service of sravanam kirtanam-hearing, chanting and remembering. One need not abandon his occupational duty. As stated in Bhagavad-gita:    (More...)
Thus one can continue with his occupational duty, but if he worships the Supreme Personality of Godhead as Lord Siva herein prescribes, he attains his perfection of life. Svanusthitasya dharmasya samsiddhir hari-tosanam (Bhag. 1.2.13). We should continue executing our occupational duties, but if we try to satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead by our duties, then our lives will be perfected.    (More...)

The next step, it is said that..., that bhava-pravaha uparamam, in the next verse. What is that? Srnvanti gayanti. This is the process. Srnvanti. Simply sit down. You haven't got to work very hard. Srnvanti. Sthane sthitaḥ sruti-gatam tanu-vah-manobhiḥ [SB 10.14.3]: "You..., you don't require to change your position. You simply hear." Therefore this very word is used in the beginning. What is that? Srnvanti. Srnvanti means "hears." Simply hear. And gayanti. So... Just like we say "Hare Krsna," and all repeat, "Hare Krsna." Gayanti. Srnvanti, first of all hear: Hare Krsna. The leading, I mean to, singer, he says, "Hare Krsna," and we repeat, "Hare Krsna." So srnvanti gayanti. Very simple method. Srnvanti gayanti grnanti. And takes it very seriously, accept: "Yes, this principle will alleviate all my sufferings." Seriously. Srnvanti gayanti grnanty abhiksnasaḥ. Abhiksnasaḥ means continuously, not that "For some days I do, and then again I go to my own habits." No. Abhiksnasaḥ, continually. And smaranti. And if you take it, then naturally you will think of Krsna. Smaranti nandanti. And then gradually you'll be pleased. You'll feel pleasure. Otherwise, hackneyed, how you can continue? From early in the morning you are chanting. Unless you feel some pleasure, how you can do it? Artificially, it is not possible. Nandanti. And what is the subject matter? Tava ihita: simply glorifying the activities of the..., of Krsna. Just like we sing, udilo aruna pūraba-bhage, dvija-mani gora amani jage. This is our subject matter of singing. What is this? Now, activities of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, that as soon as there is early rise of the sun, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu immediately started His nagara-sahkirtana. Not of any other. Sri Caitanya... Tavehitam. Simply... The subject matter must be there. If I hear, the subject matter must be there. The subject matter is Krsna's activities. Caitanya and Krsna is not different.    (More...)
Lord Kṛṣṇa did not want Arjuna to become a pretender, but that he perform his prescribed duties as set forth for kṣatriyas.
Perform your prescribed duty, for action is better than inaction. A man cannot even maintain his physical body without work.    (More...)
There are many pseudo-meditators who misrepresent themselves as belonging to high parentage, and great professional men who falsely pose that they have sacrificed everything for the sake of advancement in spiritual life. Lord Krsna did not want Arjuna to become a pretender, but that he perform his prescribed duties as set forth for ksatriyas. Arjuna was a householder and a military general, and therefore it was better for him to remain as such and perform his religious duties as prescribed for the householder ksatriya. Such activities gradually cleanse the heart of a mundane man and free him from material contamination. So-called renunciation for the purpose of maintenance is never approved by the Lord, nor by any religious scripture. After all, one has to maintain one's body and soul together by some work. Work should not be given up capriciously, without purification of materialistic propensities. Anyone who is in the material world is certainly possessed of the impure propensity for lording it over material nature, or, in other words, for sense gratification. Such polluted propensities have to be cleared. Without doing so, through prescribed duties, one should never attempt to become a so-called transcendentalist, renouncing work and living at the cost of others.    (More...)
