in India

At the present moment in India the presidential offices are occupied by many so-called brāhmaṇas, but the state maintains slaughterhouses for killing cows and makes propaganda against Vedic civilization
There are two kinds of meat-eaters-one who is born in a family of meat-eaters and one who has learned to associate with meat-eaters. From Srila Rūpa and Sanatana Gosvamis (formerly Dabira Khasa and Sakara Mallika) we can learn how one attains the character of a meat-eater simply by associating with meat-eaters. At the present moment in India the presidential offices are occupied by many so-called brahmanas, but the state maintains slaughterhouses for killing cows and makes propaganda against Vedic civilization. The first principle of Vedic civilization is the avoidance of meat-eating and intoxication. Presently in India, intoxication and meat-eating are encouraged, and the so-called learned brahmanas presiding over this state of affairs have certainly become degraded according to the standard given herein by Srila Rūpa Gosvami and Sanatana Gosvami. These so-called brahmanas give sanction to slaughterhouses for the sake of a fat salary, and they do not protest these abominable activities. By deprecating the principles of Vedic civilization and supporting cow killing, they are immediately degraded to the platform of mlecchas and yavanas. A mleccha is a meat-eater, and a yavana is one who has deviated from Vedic culture. Unfortunately, such mlecchas and yavanas are in executive power. How, then, can there be peace and prosperity in the state? The king or the president must be the representative of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. When Maharaja Yudhisthira accepted the rule of Bharata-varsa (formerly this entire planet, including all the seas and land), he took sanction from authorities like Bhismadeva and Lord Krsna. He thus ruled the entire world according to religious principles. At the present moment, however, heads of state do not care for religious principles. If irreligious people vote on an issue, even though it be against the principles of the sastras, the bills will be passed. The president and heads of state become sinful by agreeing to such abominable activities. Sanatana and Rūpa Gosvamis pleaded guilty to such activities; they therefore classified themselves among the mlecchas, although born in a brahmana family.    (More...)
Here in India they are killing ten thousand cows daily, what to speak of Western countries. So people are so much addicted to sinful activities. How they can be happy?
Prabhupada: From one port to another. Why? Checking the contents. So if in this material world such strict checkings are there, don't you think that one who enters..., one who wants to enter the kingdom of God, there is no checking? Anyone will be able to enter? It is a commonsense affair. So kingdom of God means purity. If there is slight impurity, he will not be allowed. "Keep outside." And it is stated in the Bhagavad-gita, yesam anta-gatam papam [Bg 7.28]. Yesam, persons who have completely been freed from the contamination of sinful activities,    (More...)
In India there are so many slaughterhouses. There are... It is said that ten thousand cows are being killed everyday
So it is the duty of the Vaisnava to see that people are gradually educated to Krsna consciousness. So perhaps it would be better, if we can, we also capture political power. As there are many parties-Communist party, Congress party, this party, that party-so there must be one Krsna's party. Why not? Then people will be happy if Krsna's party comes to the governmental post. Immediately there will be peace. In India, in India there are so many slaughterhouses.    (More...)
Now in India they are killing ten thousand cows daily. This is Kali-yuga. That... Still, they have got some sentiment about cow-killing.
So because it is now Kali age, just like winter season, everywhere is cold, chilliest, so similarly. because this is the Age of Kali, therefore even in India... This king, Maharaja Pariksit, was in India. He wanted to chastise this rascal in the dress of a king and attempting kill cows. So this was in India. Maybe in other place also, because the king was touring. So not only in India; all over the world the Vedic civilization was there. Five thousand years ago, everywhere the..., all people used to follow the Vedic principles. That is the proof. Because the king was following the Vedic principles. So this cow-killing by the Kali, it is said it was done on the border of India, somewhere near Sindhu Pradesh, so Afghanistan, like that. So anyway, it was on this planet, and he wanted to prohibit. But India is the center. This king, Maharaja Pariksit, his headquarter was Hastinapura, near New Delhi at the present moment. Hastinapura. There is a place still, Hastinapura. There is one broken fort also. They say this fort belonged to the Panḍavas. People go there to see. Anyway, now the king was so strict that even outside India some cow was being attempted to be killed, he immediately took his sword to punish him. Now in India they are killing ten thousand cows daily. This is Kali-yuga. Still, they have got some sentiment about cow-killing. There was about say five or six years ago, there was good agitation. But who cares for that? Because the government is sūdra: nrpa-lihga. They have taken the position of government, but they are all full of sūdras. Now in India not only killing cows... We had never seen... In Bombay this time I saw in our Juhu-big, big signboards: beef shop. Beef shop. So Hindus are there also now taking. I asked one lady, she was meat-eater. So I asked her, "Do you eat cow's meat, cow's flesh?" "Yes, sometimes." So this is Kali-yuga. Now government is encouraging drinking and meat-eating. And illicit sex, that is..., that has become now a common affair, anywhere you go. Why you should..., you should have to go to brothel? Even big, big other places. I don't wish to mention. You see.    (More...)
So in exchange of machine, they are sending all nice foodstuff outside. Even killing the cows, they are sending meat, skin. With Russia, they have got agreement.
Prabhupada: Yes. Within our life we see in our childhood, our boyhood we have seen rice was selling at three rupees four annas, first-class rice. My father used to purchase fifteen maunds of rice at a time, and the cost was three rupees four annas. Just like cumin seeds, so fine. First-class rice. Now that first-class rice, at least in India, no more available, because all first-class rice is exported. Indian government wants exchange; they want to get machine. So in exchange of machine, they are sending all nice foodstuff outside. Even killing the cows, they are sending meat, skin. With Russia they have got agreement.    (More...)
