Bhaga, we understand the word bhagyavan, bhagya. The bhagya, bhagyavan, this word comes from bhaga. Bhaga means opulence. Opulence means riches. How one man can be opulent? If he has got money, if he has got intelligence, if he has got beauty, if he has got reputation, if he has got knowledge, if he has got renunciation-this is the meaning of Bhagavan.    (More...)
So when we speak "Bhagavan," this Bhagavan, the Paramesvara... Īsvara, Paramesvara; atma, Paramatma; Brahman, Para-brahman-there is two words. One is ordinary, and the other is parama, supreme. Just like in our cooking process we can cook varieties of rice. Rice is there. The varieties of names are there: anna, paramanna, puspanna, kicoranna[?], like that. So the supreme anna is called paramanna. Param means the supreme. Anna, the rice, is there, but it has become supreme. Ordinary rice is not called supreme rice. This is also rice. And when you prepare rice with ksira, means milk, and other nice ingredients, it is called paramanna. Similarly, the symptoms of living entities and Bhagavan-one is practically the same. Bhagavan... We have got this body; Bhagavan has got this body. Bhagavan is also living being; we are also living being. Bhagavan has got creative energy; we have also creative energy. But the difference is He is very great, eko yo bahūnam vidadhati kaman. When Bhagavan creates this whole universe, He does not require anyone's help. He creates the sky. From the sky there is sound; from the sound there is air; from the air there is fire; from fire there is water; and from water the earth is there.    (More...)

The Lord, Bhagavan... Bhagavan means the most powerful, almighty, with six opulences. That is Bhagavan. Bhaga means opulence, and van, this word is used in the sense of "possession." Just like generally we say bhagyavan. We Indians, we know. Bhagyavan means fortunate. This word bhagya comes from bhaga. Bhaga, and in relationship with bhaga the word comes bhagya. And van means "one who possesses." Asty arthe vatup. The Sanskrit word, when the meaning is to possess, then one affix is added which is called vat, bhaga-vat. And the first word of the bhagavat-sabda is bhagavan.    (More...)

Ignorance fighting will not make any solution of the problem. We must come to the light and take knowledge from the most enlightened, Krsna, Bhagavan. Bhagavan means He is endowed with six kind of opulence. He is the supreme rich. He is the supreme famous. He is supreme beauty and supreme wise. So we have to take knowledge from the supreme wise. That knowledge is perfect. Therefore here it is said, bhagavan uvaca. He did not say krsna uv... Vyasadeva does not say "Krsna," because Krsna may be taken by the demons as something like us. So therefore he purposefully says, bhagavan uvaca. Bhagavan uvaca means the Supreme Personality of God. There cannot be any doubt about His knowledge. So bhagavan uvaca, whatever Bhagavan says, that is fact; that is not knowledge like that "It may be," "Perhaps." These are all rascaldom. "It may be," "Perhaps"-that is not knowledge. That is speculation. Speculation is different. And knowledge is different. You cannot speculate about the absolute knowledge, because our senses are imperfect. How we can speculate or come to the right conclusion? That is not possible. We must receive direct knowledge. This is this. Therefore it is said, bhagavan uvaca.    (More...)

Everything is definition there. In our Vedic knowledge there is no vague idea, rascal's idea. All clear. What is Bhagavan? Immediately you get the enunciation, definition, "This is Bhagavan," not that so-called Bhagavan, incarnation, this Baba, this yogi. These are all nonsense. Bhagavan is different. God is different. God means... Definition, you take the definition, Vedic definition, aisvaryasya: all wealth. Who can claim that "I am wealthy. I possess all the wealth of the universe"? Who can say? Only Krsna can say; nobody can say. You may be millionaire. You may be Rockefeller or this Tata or Birla. That is very insignificant position. But a Tata, Rockefeller or this, they cannot say, "No, I possess the whole wealth of the universe." That you cannot say. But Krsna can say. Therefore He is Bhagavan.    (More...)
Prabhupada: Then they had ten children again. This is Yadu family. This is Yadu... This is family, Krsna's family. So many, one person. And that is called Bhagavan. Show something, Bhagavan. They simply cheap Bhagavan, and rascal present as cheap Bhagavan, and rascal accept them as Bhagavan. This is not good. Try to find out the actual Bhagavan. That is Krsna. That is... He showed by practical example. He is accepted by great, great sages like Narada, Vyasadeva, Devala, Asita. That is also stated when Arjuna accept Him that "You are the Supreme Lord. So You are the Supreme Lord how? Because people may say I am Your friend, therefore I am accepting. No. All the authorities says that You are the Supreme Lord. And I have understood by Your personal explanation, and I accept You." Sarvam etad rtam manye yad vadasi kesava [Bg 10.14]: "Whatever You have said, I accept it because You are Bhagavan." This is Bhagavan.    (More...)
Therefore we are presenting Bhagavad-gita As It Is-as it is, without any change. Krsna says, man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru [Bg 18.65]: "Just become My devotee. Always think of Me." We are teaching the same thing. We have no difficulty. What we are requesting you? "You think of Krsna. Chant Hare Krsna." That's all. Where is the difficulty? We don't say, "You think of that, this of that, to this demigod, that demigod." No. We don't say. What is the use of other demigod? We show all respect to everyone, even to the ant, but that does not mean that any demigod, any damn, any rascal, should be worshiped as God? No. That is not possible. We can show respect even to the insignificant ant. Trnad api sunicena taror api sahisnuna .    (More...)

Arjuna's wonderful experience due to the mercy of Krsna is one of the many thousands of pastimes performed by Lord Krsna during His stay in this material world. They were all unique and have no parallel in the history of the world. All these pastimes prove fully that Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, yet while He was present within this material world, He played just like an ordinary man possessing many worldly duties. He played the part of an ideal householder, and although He possessed 16,000 wives, 16,000 palaces and 160,000 children, He also performed many sacrifices, just to teach the royal order how to live in the material world for the welfare of humanity. As the ideal Supreme Personality, He fulfilled the desires of everyone, from the brahmanas, the highest persons in human society, down to the ordinary living entities, including the lowest of men. Just as King Indra is in charge of distributing rain all over the world to satisfy everyone in due course, so Lord Krsna satisfies everyone by pouring down His causeless mercy. His mission was to give protection to the devotees and to kill the demoniac kings; therefore, He killed many hundreds and thousands of demons. Some of them He killed personally, and some of them were killed by Arjuna, who was deputed by Krsna. In this way He established many pious kings such as Yudhisthira at the helm of world affairs. Thus, by His divine arrangement He created the good government of King Yudhisthira, and there ensued peace and tranquility.    (More...)
