brain behind

Imported quote 16639 A pure devotee of the Lord constantly sees the presence of the Lord within himself because of being transcendentally related by loving service. Such a pure devotee cannot forget the Lord for a moment. This is called trance. The mystic (yogi) tries to concentrate upon the Supersoul by controlling the senses from all other engagements, and thus he ultimately attains samadhi. A devotee more easily attains samadhi or trance by constantly remembering the Lord's personal feature along with His holy name, fame, pastimes, etc. Therefore, the concentration of the mystic yogi and that of the devotee are not on the same level. The concentration of the mystic is something mechanical, whereas that of the pure devotee is natural in pure love and spontaneous affection. Bhismadeva was a pure devotee, and as a military marshal he constantly remembered the battlefield feature of the Lord as Partha-sarathi, the chariot driver of Arjuna. Therefore, the Lord's pastime as Partha-sarathi is also eternal. All the pastimes of the Lord, beginning from His birth at the prison house of Kamsa up to the Mausala-lila at the end, all move one after another in all the universes, just as the clock hand moves from one point to another. And in such pastimes His associates like the Panḍavas and Bhisma are constant eternal companions. So Bhismadeva never forgot the beautiful feature of the Lord as Partha-sarathi, which even Arjuna could not see. Arjuna was behind the beautiful Partha-sarathi while Bhismadeva was just in front of the Lord. As far as the military feature of the Lord is concerned, Bhismadeva observed this with more relish than Arjuna.
(More...) Pradyumna: Yes, Srila Prabhupada. There is just one more point on that verse. He says there are some verses that say upanisada purusaḥ or namo vedanta vedyaya krsnaya. So Srila Baladeva Vidyabhūsana has raised a question that it says Krsna is not seen by the Upanisads, but then there's some verses that say He is known by the Vedas, He is known by Upanisads. He says it is proved that the Absolute is able to be known by Vedas, veda-gamyatvam kintu... Then he quotes other verses, he says, but sakalyena avedatvam, He cannot be known completely through Vedas, only through devotional service
(More...) And he went on in this way. Srila Prabhupada didn't say a word. Kirtanananda finally ran down, and Srila Prabhupada asked, "Are you finished now?" When Kirtanananda acknowledged that he was, Srila Prabhupada suddenly began to roar like the lion incarnation. "Krsna is standing right before you and He says, 'You worship Me,' and you mean to say you do not worship Krsna? You mean worship some void, unborn? Krsna is before Arjuna and He says, 'On Me fix thy mind. To Me be devoted. Worship Me!' You do not understand? A nonsense rascal says it is not to Krsna, so you want to worship such a nonsense rascal? 'Not to the personal Krsna,' he says, and Krsna says, 'Worship Me.'" We all sat in shocked silence. Kirtanananda didn't say another word. I remember that I thought this attack very harsh, but Umapati thought it was justified. "He's right," Umapati said afterwards. "None of the commentators mention worshiping Krsna, but Krsna clearly says, 'Worship Me.' You've read Bhagavad-gita before. Have you ever thought of worshiping Krsna?" I had to admit that although I had read Gita three or four times before, worshiping Krsna had never entered my mind. Later I came to understand that most scholars and swamis avoid the clear command of this verse, although they teach from Bhagavad-gita. Indeed, the following year in San Francisco I bluntly asked one celebrated Swami Mayananda, "Do you worship Krsna?" He was sitting in a chair, and I was standing over him when I asked the question, and he jumped to his feet and shouted, "No! Why should I?" His eyes flashed, and he was furious and he chided me that Krsna is nothing but the Self that is within all of us.
(More...) Srila Prabhupada: Then that is your imperfection. You are a physicist, and as I said, if by your physical laws you can prove there is Krsna, then you are perfect. You would give better service than we give. When we speak of Krsna, there are so many persons who take our statements as sentimental religion. But if a scientist like you would speak of Krsna, they would hear. If you do this, you will do greater service than I. But if it is a fact that by your physical laws you cannot understand Krsna, then your science is imperfect. When you can come to understand Krsna by studying these physical laws, then your science is perfect. Because He is the ultimate source of everything, if you can come to Krsna by studying your physical laws, that is your perfection. Therefore, our proposition is that you remain a physical scientist, but you should try to explain Krsna. Then you will be perfect. Don't think that we are decrying you or that we are decrying science. No. We are simply insisting that you accept Krsna. Otherwise, you are zero. You have no spiritual value. Krsna is like 1, and if you accept Krsna, your value instantly becomes 10-unlimitedly increased. So, bring Krsna into everything, and He will increase its value. That is real scientific discovery-to find out Krsna. Find out how God is working in the physical and chemical laws, how His brain is working. Everything is working by His brain. There are chemical and physical energies, but everything is going on by God's brain. These chemical and physical laws are acting in such a subtle way that we see everything as coming automatically. There are chemical and physical laws, but how these laws are working you do not know.
