These rogues in human society are the most dangerous elements and, for want of religious government, they pass on without being punished by the law of the state. They cannot, however, avoid the law of the Supreme, Who has clearly declared in the Bhagavad-gita [16.19-20] that these envious demons, in the garb of religious propagandists, shall be thrown down into the darkest region of hell. It is confirmed in Sri Īsopanisad that the pseudo religionists are heading toward the most obnoxious place in the universe after finishing with the spiritual mastership business, which is simply for the matter of sense gratification    (More...)

So this is the business of guru, to teach the student detachment, that "This world is not your place. Your place is Vaikuntha-loka." Krsna comes for this purpose. Yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata [Bg 4.7]. This is dharmasya glaniḥ. When we become too much attached with this material world, that is called dharmasya glaniḥ. What is dharma? Dharmam tu saksad bhagavat-pranitam [SB 6.3.19]. Dharma means the order of the Supreme Person. That is dharma. The order of the Supreme Person is, I mean to say, open to everyone. Nobody can say that "I do not know what is the order of the Supreme." I do not carry out, that is another thing. But the order of the Supreme is there. Man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru [Bg 18.65]:    (More...)

So that light is given by guru. Ajnana-timirandhasya jnananjana-salakaya [Gautamiya-tantra]. That light is given not by bringing one torchlight, but jnananjana-salakaya, the light of knowledge. The light of... Jnananjana-salakaya. Caksur unmilitam yena tasmai sri-gurave namaḥ. Guru's business is to give you light by knowledge. Then you understand. Tasmad gurum prapadyeta jijnasuḥ sreya uttamam [SB 11.3.21]. How the jnana, knowledge, light is given? Sabde pare ca nisnatam brahmany upasamasrayam. This is the guru's system, guru's symptom, what is guru. Sabde pare ca nisnatam. He has completely assimilated the Vedic essence of life. That is called guru. And what is sabda? Sastra, or Vedas. Sruti-sastra. Sruti means Veda, knowledge. Veda means knowledge. Or knowledge is received through ear, by hearing. That is real knowledge. Not by experimental knowledge. You cannot understand which is beyond your sense perception by experiment. Just like you cannot understand who is your father by experimental knowledge: "Let me make experiment and find out who is my father." That is not possible. Because it is beyond your experience. Your father was existing when you were not existing. Then how you can understand by experimental knowledge? The authority is mother. Therefore Vedic knowledge is the mother; the Puranas are the sisters. They are explained like that. You should understand from the Vedas what is the ultimate knowledge. And Krsna says, vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyaḥ [Bg 15.15]: the ultimate knowable objective is Krsna.    (More...)

It is the guru's business to operate the blind, cataractic eye..., eyeball, and giving eyesight. So how it is done? Now, jnananjana-salakaya. Just like in the darkness you cannot see. But if there is lamp, you can see. So jnana means knowledge. You must know what is your position. There are sastra. You read Bhagavad-gita, try to understand your position. That is atma-darsanam. Atma-darsanam. Everything is there. Atma-darsanam.    (More...)

Prabhupada: Cittete koriya aikya, ar na koriho mane asa. That is liberation. Otherwise, we shall be implicated. And what guru says? Guru says the same thing as Krsna says. That is guru. Krsna says, sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja [Bg 18.66]. Krsna also... Guru also says the same thing. That is guru's business, that "You surrender to Krsna and fully be engaged in Krsna's service." So therefore Narottama dasa Thakura advises, "Take this very seriously." Ar na koriho mane asa: "No more. Stop any other desires." Then your life is successful. Ar na koriho mane asa.    (More...)

Krsna says, "Anyone who is preaching this confidential cult..." Mad-bhaktesu abhidhasyati. Bhaktesu means "amongst the devotee." Who will understand Krsna, and who will surrender to Krsna, unless he is bhakta? Therefore, guru's business is first of all to make him bhakta. Then he will be able to understand what is Krsna and surrender to Him. He has got very double business. Krsna says, mad-bhaktesu abhidhasyati: "This cult, who preaches, anyone who preaches this cult of bhakti-yoga amongst My devotees..." He is selecting, "devotees." He never says the jnanis, yogis. The jnanis, yogis will not be able to understand what is Krsna. From the very beginning they think they have become Krsna. Vimukta-maninaḥ. They think like that. Actually, it is not. Krsna is not so cheap thing that one can become Krsna. One can become Krsna's most confidential servant-that is possible. But one cannot become Krsna. That is another illusion, maya.    (More...)
