peace

Imported quote 15897
Everyone wants peace in the world, but no one knows how to attain it. The defect in the philosophy of the peace marchers was noted by the Archbishop of Canterbury when he said, "You want the kingdom of God without God." If we at all want peace, we have to understand that peace means knowing God. This is stated in Bhagavad-gita. Unless we are in touch with the Supreme Lord, Krishna, we cannot have peace, for this is the real key to the peace formula. The real peace formula is that one must know that God is the proprietor of all this universe, including the United States, Russia, China, India, etc. Because we claim that we are the proprietors, there is fighting, discord and disagreement. In such consciousness, how can there be peace? We first must accept the fact that God is the proprietor of everything and that we are simply guests on this planet for at most one hundred years. We come and we go, and while we are here, we are absorbed in the thought that "This is my land. This is my family. This is my body. This is my property." We do not stop to consider that when there is an order from the Supreme, we will have to leave this home, body, property, family, money, bank balance, etc. Our position has to be totally vacated. When material nature takes us in her grip at death and offers different kinds of bodies, she says, "Now my dear sir, you accept this body." In this way we are forced to accept an American body, Indian body, Chinese body, cat's body, dog's body, etc. We're not even the proprietors of these bodies, yet we are claiming to be these bodies. This is all due to ignorance. In such ignorance, where is the possibility of peace? Peace can only be had when we understand that God is the proprietor of everything. Our friends, family and relatives are guests of time. When we accept this knowledge, we will have peace.    (More...)

Consequently, although there is no lack of money in the world, there is a scarcity of peace. So much human energy is being diverted to making money, for the general population has increased its capacity to make more and more dollars, but in the long run the result is that this unrestricted and unlawful monetary inflation has created a bad economy all over the world and has provoked us to manufacture huge and costly weapons to destroy the very result of such cheap money-making. The leaders of the big money-making countries are not really enjoying peace but are making plans to save themselves from imminent destruction by nuclear weapons. In fact, huge sums of money are being thrown into the sea by way of experiments with these dreadful weapons. Such experiments are being carried out not only at huge costs but also at the cost of many lives. In this way the nations are being bound by the laws of karma. When men are motivated by the impulse for sense gratification, whatever money is earned is spoiled, being spent for the destruction of the human race. The energy of the human race is thus wasted by the laws of nature because of man's aversion to the Lord, who is actually the proprietor of all energies.    (More...)

Show noteSo if I give up everything, that I may be doubtful, "Then how things will go on? How I shall live if I give it...?" No, you shall live if you believe in Krsna. Raksisyati iti visvasa palanam. If Krsna says that "I shall give you protection," so why shall I not believe it? This is called surrender, full surrender, that Krsna..., "Let me engage myself in Krsna's service as Krsna orders."    (More...)
If we take this, I mean to say, assurance from Krsna, then there is santi. Otherwise there is no santi. That is called sattva-gunam svaccham. "So I am taking to this worship of Deity, but at the same time let me have something privately so that in case of my distress, if Krsna fails to help me, this money will help me." That is not svaccham. Svaccham means clear. That is not... Therefore Caitanya Mahaprabhu advises,    (More...)
So we, of course, we are not so advanced, but we have got many examples of advanced devotees. Still there are in India; you will find in Vrndavana and other places. Actually, they have no means-simply depending. They take their bath in the Yamuna and sit down and chant Hare Krsna. There are still such devotees. But everything is going on. So that is santa, completely depending on God. That is the highest stage of devotional life. Vasudevaḥ sarvam iti sa mahatma sudurlabhaḥ [Bg 7.19]. There are many stories and many incidences. And that's a fact, that, as it is said by Bhagavan,    (More...)
So these books are there to remind us: ataeva krsna veda-purana paḍila. Because we have forgotten Krsna, because we have forgotten God on account of restless mind, so we have to make it santa, calm and peaceful. Without becoming calm and peaceful, you cannot understand what is God. Ceta etair anaviddham sthitam sattve prasidati. When our heart will be no more attacked by the sattva-guna and rajo-guna, we come into the platform..., er, rajo-guna and tamo-guna... Nasta-prayesu abhadresu nityam bhagavata-sevaya [SB 1.2.18].    (More...)
This is the process to make the heart cleansed and gradually attain the perfection of complete peacefulness. And that complete peacefulness is the stage for understanding the Supreme Personality of Godhead.    (More...)
Prabhupada: Ah! Ataeva santa. There is santi. You have to test whether by..., by some desire, whether you have become santa. That is not possible except Krsna. When you serve Krsna, then you will feel transcendental pleasure. Otherwise you cannot. Sakali asanta. For mukti they have to do so many things, so many things. So desirelessness means to desire for Krsna. This is the conclusion. That Caitanya Mahaprabhu's teaching: mama janmani janmanisvare bhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi. This is desire. "My life after life, simply My devotion unto You may be fixed up." That's all. This is Krsna consciousness. In the beginning He says, na dhanam na janam na sundarim kavitam va jaga... . "No, no, no, no, not this." Then there must be some positive. And the positive is: mama janmani janmanisvare bhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi. With simply negative, what you'll do? Simply negative? You must give something positive. Then you'll be satisfied. You are serving somewhere. You don't get sufficient salary. So you desire to give up this, this service. Resignation. But if you don't get any better service, then what will be the result of resignation? You'll starve. Again you'll go, "Master, I did wrong. Please give me that service." So that is... The Mayavadis' position is like that. They want to become merged into the Supreme. But that is not possible. After some time... Aruhya krcchrena param padam tataḥ patanty adhaḥ [SB 10.2.32].    (More...)

Therefore these are the symptoms of Krsna consciousness: svacchatvam, avikaritvam, santatvam. Santa I have already explained last night, several times also, that santatvam, santi... Just like I told you that many people coming: "Oh, I do not get any peace of mind." How you will get peace of mind? Here in the material world you cannot be endowed with the peace of mind. It is not possible. Why? Because here everything is maya. Bharam udvahato vimūḍhan. Asad-grahat, sada samudvigna-dhiyam asad-grahat [SB 7.5.5].    (More...)
So santi cannot be attained so long we are attached to this asat. Asad-grahat sada samudvigna-dhiyam. Tat sadhu manye 'sura-varya dehinam sada samudvigna-dhiyam asad-grahat. We are... All people in this material world, we are always samyag udvigna, samudvigna. Udvigna means anxiety, always full of anxieties. Sada samudvigna-dhiyam. Why samudvigna-dhiyam? Krsna consciousness means this, svacchatvam avikaritvam santatvam, these three things, Krsna consciousness: clear understanding; no change, no change from Krsna consciousness; and santatvam, peaceful. Just like a man-ordinarily we perceive-a gentleman, after working very hard, if he gets some bank balance and nice house, nice wife and some children, he thinks, "I am very happy." This is also maya. He thinks, "But I am happy." What kind of maya? Now, pramattaḥ tesam nidhanam pasyann api na pasyati. He is in maya, mad, illusion, pramatta. He does not see that these things will be also finished. Tesam nidhanam. Dehapatya-kalatradisu atma-sainyesu asatsu api [SB 2.1.4].    (More...)
Imported quote 18717
Everything is there. So on account of this dirty position of material contamination, we cannot accept Krsna as the real friend. Therefore we cannot get santi. So if we want really santi, then we must accept the formula, suhrdam sarva-dehinam jnatva mam, not this political leader, that political leader. No. They do not know what is the actually path of santi. They cannot. They do not have santi in themselves. How they can...? "Physician, heal thyself." The physician himself is a diseased person, maya-mohita, so how they can help us? So this is not possible. We have to accept Krsna as suhrdam sarva-bhūtanam jnatva [Bg 5.29]. He is the proprietor of everything. Sarva-loka-mahesvaram. Mahesvaram. Īsvara, mahesvaram. Paramesvaram. Mahesvaram or paramesvaram. Īsvaraḥ paramaḥ krsnaḥ [Bs 5.1].    (More...)

Otherwise, there is no possibility. Otherwise there is no possibility. Everyone is hankering after peace, but this is the way of attaining peace: to revive your relationship with Krsna, to engage your mind fully in the service of Krsna, in the matter of understanding Krsna. And if you understand Krsna... The books are there. Bhagavad-gita is there. Srimad-Bhagavata is there. You have got your reason. You have got your knowledge. Try to understand Krsna. Then your life is successful. Janma karma ca me divyam yo janati tattvataḥ [Bg 4.9]. Simply you try to understand Krsna. Then, from this asat, this temporary life which you are changing one after another, tyaktva deham punar janma naiti mam eti kaunteya... [Bg 4.9]. After giving up this body... This is also temporary body, asat, the asat. Asat means it will not stay. So after giving up this body, if you get another body... That is compulsory. Tatha dehantara-praptir dhiras tatra na muhyati [Bg 2.13].    (More...)

They are now very busy to bring in peace in the world and are continuously holding expensive conferences, meetings, summit talks etc. to make an effective peace movement but because such attempts are being made without any relation of God, they are all manifold creations of the External Potency of the Absolute Truth. As an experienced philosopher this fact is not hidden before you. According to Lord Caitanya every Indian is competent to do good to the rest of the world provided such Indian has fulfilled the mission of life which is to revive the dormant divine consciousness in every living being.    (More...)

Your idea of the "unity'' of man is utopian. It will never become. The United Nations has tried for so many years, and they will never agree. If we keep human beings in the status of cats and dogs, in the bodily concept of life, how can they live in peace? They will simply fight like cats and dogs amongst one another. However, when members of the human society come to the spiritual platform, then there is a genuine possibility of unity.    (More...)
