Tams titiksasva. Don't be disturbed by the sensuous disturbance of the body. Become dhira. Dhiras tatra na muhyati [Bg 2.13]. Become dhira. So one who has practiced to become dhira, not to become disturbed by the sensuous or bodily sensations, he's supposed to be kalpate; he's supposed to be, to become immortal at the end. And the Bhagavata says also that you do not become a spiritual master, you do not become a father, you do not become a mother, you do not become a friend, a relative, in this way, if you cannot make your subordinate immortal. So because people are producing children against religious principle, therefore the whole world if full of varna-sahkara, and there is no peace. So if you follow the principles of Bhagavad-gita, automatically there will be peace. Because every children, every boy, every girl will be sober, Krsna conscious. And therefore sastra prohibits, pita na sa syat [SB 5.5.18], one should not become father; janani na sa syat, one should not become mother; gurur na sa syat, one should not become guru. One... In this way, there are... Why? Na mocayed yaḥ samupeta-mrtyum. If you cannot stop the course of birth and death of your children, then don't become a father. This is called religious contraceptive. Our Krsna consciousness movement is meant for educating everyone to become divine. That is the program. So what is the gain by becoming divine? That is described in the previous verse: daivi sampad vimoksaya [Bg 16.5]. If you become divine and acquire the divine qualities, abhayam sattva-samsuddhiḥ jnana-yoga-vyavasthitiḥ... That is we have discussed already. So if you become divine... There is no impediment to become divine. Simply you have to practice for the post. Just like everyone can become high-court judge. Everyone can become the president of United States. There is no bar. But you have to be qualified. If you qualify yourself, you can become any..., fitted in any position. So if you take this, that Krsna is the beginning of everything-iti matva-by understanding this, if anyone engages himself in krsna-bhakti, bhajante mam, that is bhakti. Budha bhava-samanvitaḥ. He has come immediately to the bhava stage. Means he's budhaḥ. He is actually. He has actually understood the thing. So that is visvasa. In Caitanya-caritamrta it is said visvasa..., sraddha-sabde visvasa kahe sudrḍha niscaya, krsne bhakti kaile sarva-karma krta haya [Cc Madhya 22.62]. Krsne bhakti kaile sarva-karma krta haya. This is visvasa. Krsna says, sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja [Bg 18.66]. I am thinking, "I have got so many other things. Simply why shall I surrender?" That is not visvasa. Visvasa means "Krsna says, sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam. I'll accept." Krsne bhakti kaile sarva-karma krta. That is visvasa. Sudrḍha niscaya. So according to Vedic scripture, a tattva-darsi should be very pure, uncontaminated. Therefore, generally we go to the qualified brahmana, satyam samo damas titiksa arjavam, jnanam vijnanam astikyam brahma-karma svabhava-jam [Bg 18.42]. One who is qualified. The guru must be mahatma and muni. Muni means thoughtful, philosopher. Not foolish rascal, manufacturing some philosophy. And mahatmabhiḥ: not only self-realized, but by his character, by his behavior, by his understanding, he must be a mahatma. What is that mahatma? There are so many mahatmas simply by changing the dress. No. Not that kind of mahatma. Our Bhaktivinoda Thakura has sung a song, eo ta' eka kalira cela: "Here is a disciple of Kali." What is that? Nake tilaka galaya mala. "He has got tilaka..." Matha neḍa nake tilaka galaya mala. He sings that sahaja-bhajana karachena mamu, sahge la'ye parera bala. Bhaktivinoda Thakura sings that "He's dressed like a babaji. He has shaven his head, and has got tilaka and kanthi. But he has got at least half a dozen women, and that is his bhajana." So not that... That is not mahatma. That is duratma, a cheating... Of course, in this Kali-yuga... Therefore Bhaktivinoda Thakura says, eo ta' eka kalira cela. Kalira cela means the disciple of Kali. Dressed like a sadhu or Vaisnava, but within, all rubbish things. That will not help us. He must be mahatma, real mahatma. We want guru like that. Then it will be a... We must be also qualified, and guru also qualified. Therefore it is said in the Hari-bhakti-vilasa that one year should be taken to study one another, the guru and the disciple. One has to become brahma-bhūta [SB 4.30.20]. That is brahmana. The sign is na socati na kahksati. He does not care for anything material. He's always satisfied. Aham brahmasmi. That is brahmana. But, in spite of this quality, if he does not enter into the bhakti, then he's not a Vaisnava. He may be a brahmana... This is clearly defined in the Bhagavad-gita. Brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannatma na socati na kahksati [Bg 18.54]. He's pacified. Samaḥ sarvesu bhūtesu: he's equal to everyone. Then he's qualified to become a devotee, Vaisnava. So to become a disciple of spiritual master, unless there is awakening of this knowledge, to know, "What I am?" there is no need of making a show, accepting a spiritual master. There is no need. Tasmad gurum prapadyeta jijnasuḥ sreya uttamam [SB 11.3.21]. For whom guru is needed? Guru, spiritual master, is not a farce, that "Let me have a guru, nice guru. Then I become perfect." And if you do not follow the instruction of guru... First of all, you must have a bona fide guru. And if you follow, then your life is perfect. So two things must be correct: the guru must be correct and the disciple must be correct. Then the business will be correct. So now this Krsna consciousness movement is picking up who are the brahmanas. They mixed up. They are mixed up. So long there was no picking up of the brahmanas. Now, by this movement, Krsna consciousness movement, we are picking up the brahmanas. Because there is need of brahmanas at this time, because brain is not there. The brain... Brahmana means the brain. They must have knowledge. That is brahmana. In India, the brahmanas are called panḍita, although nowadays he is fool number one. So that... Or, in other words, anyone who wants to become guru, if he cannot teach his disciples how to surrender, govinda-carana-dvayam, anasritya, how to take shelter of the lotus feet of Govinda, he should not become guru. That is cheating. That is cheating. Similarly, one should not become father. That one... The father and mother should have determination that "The child I produce, I give birth, if I cannot teach him Krsna conscious, surrender to Krsna, I shall not beget any child." Prabhupada: Yes, if you love children for making them Krsna conscious, then it is loving Krsna. Krsna wants sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja [Bg 18.66]. So if you help... What is our movement? Why I have come to your country? Because to make you Krsna conscious. So there is love of Krsna. Otherwise why..., what is the business, I have come to you? I have no business. Because I love Krsna, I want to see all, everybody in the world, to become Krsna conscious. Otherwise why in this old age we are trying so much? Similarly, if you love your children to make them Krsna conscious, then produce hundreds of children and make them. That is love of Krsna. And if you make them cats and dogs, then one children producing is also sinful. That is also sinful. But if you can make them Krsna conscious, then produce hundreds of children. That is Krsna's love. The Bhagavata says, pita na sa syaj janani na sa syat: "One should not become father, one should not become mother..." na mocayed yaḥ samupeta-mrtyum [SB 5.5.18], "...if he cannot deliver the children from the imminent hands of death." That is the condition. So if you cannot make... Death cannot be avoided unless one becomes Krsna conscious. So if you cannot make your children Krsna conscious and stop their death, birth and death process, then don't become a father. This is the injunction. And if you can actually do that, then become father of hundreds children. This is the condition. If you cannot make your children... If you can make, that is love of Krsna. Because unless you love Krsna, why you should be interested to make others Krsna conscious? Let them go to hell. Why you should be so much working hard to make them Krsna conscious, unless you love Krsna? This is the sign of love. "I love Krsna, but I do nothing for Krsna," that is nonsense. That is nonsense. Therefore I said that our Guru Maharaja's brother, he criticizes Guru Maharaja, but what he has done for Krsna? And what my Guru Maharaja has done? Unless my Guru Maharaja had produced me, how this Krsna consciousness movement is going all over the world? And what he has done? Simply criticizing is no use. We want to see practical. So the... Sadhu. We are to take shelter of sadhu. Sadhu-guru, the same thing. Guru means sadhu. A sadhu... One... Sadhu means the devotee of the Lord. If one is not sadhu, then he cannot become guru. And sadhu means... This is the description given. What is that? Mayy ananyena bhavena bhaktim kurvanti ye drḍham. He's sadhu. Not that anyone with a saffron cloth and having a long beard. That is not sadhu. Sadhu means the devotee of the Lord. That is his first qualification. Krsna says, api cet su-duracaro bhajate mam ananya-bhak. The same thing. As it is..., Kapiladeva says, mayy ananyena bhavena. Kapiladeva is also Krsna, incarnation of Krsna. The same thing. The Bhagavad-gita, Krsna svayam says, bhajate mam ananya-bhak. Ananya, "not being deviated." Mam ekam, "only unto Me." This is ananya-bhava. Not that sometimes take from here something, take from here something, whatever is available. Those who are after material concession, they go different demigods: take something from Siva, take something from Durga, take something from Kali, take this, that, that. So many, there are different demigods, especially Goddess Durga, Lord Siva and Ganesa and Sūrya, they are... And Visnu. The Visnu worship is the best. Aradhananam sarvesam visnor aradhanam param [Padma Purana]. That is said by Lord Siva to Goddess Parvati. Parvati asked Lord Siva, "What is the best type of worship?" There are so many. It is amongst the demigods. So Lord Siva advised, aradhananam sarvesam visnor aradhanam param. "My dear Parvati, amongst all kinds of different types of worship, Visnu worship is the best." And then again he said, tasmat parataram devi: "And there is still better worship." What is that? Tasmat parataram devi tadiyanam aradhananam. Then... "Visnu worship is the best. So we have to find out such guru, Vaisnava. Sastra says, sat-karma-nipuno vipro mantra-tantra-visaradaḥ. Not only expert in six kinds of occupational..., pathana, pathana, yajana, yajana, dana, pratigraha, but mantra-tantra-visaradaḥ: Vedic mantra or tantra-everything he knows perfectly well. Sat-karma-nipuno vipro mantra-tantra..., avaisnavo gurur na sa syat: but if he has got one disqualification-he is faithless; he does not believe in the Supreme Personality of Godhead, or Visnu; he is believer in other demigods and other process, even Lord Siva or Lord Brahma, the best of all the demigods-then he becomes avaisnava. Just like Ravana. Ravana was very learned scholar, son of a brahmana, very good scholar, and economically developed, but only fault was avaisnava: he did not care for Rama. So he is designated as raksasa. So avaisnava, who is not devotee of Visnu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, gurur na sa syat, he cannot become guru. That is not possible.    (More...)

Prabhupada: Free means desire should be purified. That means desires should be to render service to the Lord. That is real purification. The example is given, just like gold. There are impurities. That impurities, you cannot cleanse it simply by washing. You have to put into the fire. When it is melted, then automatically all the dirty things are gone. His natural position is part and parcel of God, to render service to God. So unless he takes up that thing, there is no question of desirelessness. Therefore Krsna is demanding, "Surrender." And as soon as he surrenders, then material desires become vanquished. Sarvopadhi-vinirmuktam [Cc Madhya 19.170]. Anyabhilasita-sūnyam [Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.1.11]. Otherwise, the... Prabhupada: Yes. Jahnava devi was-Nityananda's wife. She became. If she is able to go to the highest perfection of life, why it is not possible to become guru? But, not so many. Actually one who has attained the perfection, she can become guru. But man or woman, unless one has attained the perfection... Yei krsna-tattva-vetta sei guru haya [Cc Madhya 8.128]. The qualification of guru is that he must be fully cognizant of the science of Krsna. Then he or she can become guru. Yei krsna-tattva-vetta, sei guru haya. [break] In our material world, is it any prohibition that woman cannot become professor? If she is qualified, she can become professor. What is the wrong there? She must be qualified. Prabhupada: Yes. He comes, taking so much trouble for the wife. He will lie down with her, from eleven at night up to three o'clock. For that, their is home. This is his home. And to maintain this home, he has to take so much trouble. And this is civilization. Up to date. He does not think, "For this little happiness why I am here? Better to become a sannyasi and live independently. Why I'm taking so much...?" No. And after working so hard, in old age if you ask permission from the wife, "I have done so much for you, for family. Now let me retire." "Eh? You'll retire? Then who will look after me?" The home member not satisfied, and you are not satisfied. You are working so hard-how you can be satisfied? And they find still insufficient income. They are not satisfied. But what is this home? To sense gratification. You are not serving this woman. Because this woman, as soon as she is not able to serve you by her sex, then there is divorce. Nobody's serving anybody, but everybody is serving his own senses. So actually the man is serving his own senses, ustra. He's eating his own blood and thinking, "Thorn very palatable." He's eating thorn. What is his palatable? Cutting the tongue and blood is coming out, and when the thorn's chewed with this blood, it makes little taste. Blood has got taste. And he's thinking, "Thorn is very nice." Therefore they have been called as ustra. Ustra eats own, drinks or eats his own blood, and takes the thorn as very good. Sva-viḍ-varahostra-khara [SB 2.3.19]. These animals have been specially mentioned: dog; viḍ-varaha means hog; ustra; and khara means ass. How Bhagavata has selected. [laughs] Sva means dog. Dog, after technical education, if he does not get a post where he can use this computer and other big, big... He's a dog. He goes to a bank, "Sir, I am expert in this machine work. Can you give me a job?" "No, no. There is no vacancy." Then again he puts his tail, goes another, another. What is the use, this? The big, big technologists, unless they get a suitable job, they're just like dog. Dog is loitering in the street, no food. So these men with all this high technological knowledge, if they do not get a proper master, they are nothing but dog. This is university education. So dog and hog. Hog means he can eat any nonsense thing, whole day working, if he gets sex-never mind whether mother, sister or daughter or any. You see the hog's family. They are very much sexually inclined, without any discrimination, and eating stool. This is his life. You see nowadays this man, he's eating anything, the hog's intestine. What is that?    (More...)
