sunshine

As sunlight maintains the entire universe, so the light of the soul maintains this material body. The material body is perishable by nature. It may perish immediately, or it may do so after a hundred years. It is a question of time only. There is no chance of maintaining it indefinitely. But the spirit soul is so minute that it cannot even be seen by an enemy, to say nothing of being killed. As mentioned in the previous verse, it is so small that no one can have any idea how to measure its dimension. So from both viewpoints there is no cause of lamentation because the living entity can neither be killed as he is, nor can the material body, which cannot be saved for any length of time, be permanently protected. The minute particle of the whole spirit acquires this material body according to his work, and therefore observance of religious principles should be utilized. In the Vedanta-sūtras the living entity is qualified as light because he is part and parcel of the supreme light. As sunlight maintains the entire universe, so the light of the soul maintains this material body. As soon as the spirit soul is out of this material body, the body begins to decompose; therefore it is the spirit soul which maintains this body. The body itself is unimportant. Arjuna was advised to fight and sacrifice the material body for the cause of religion.

By nature's law, in autumn the dirty or muddy waters of rivers and lakes become very clean. At that time the lotus flowers growing in the lakes appear very bright and beautiful. The lotus flower itself is compared with the lotus feet of the Lord, and the petals are compared with the nails of the feet of the Lord. The nails of the feet of the Lord are very bright, as Brahma-samhita testifies. Ananda-cinmaya-sad-ujjvala-vigrahasya: every limb of the transcendental body of the Lord is made of ananda-cinmaya-sad-ujjvala. Thus every limb is eternally bright. As sunshine dissipates the darkness of this material world, the effulgence emanating from the body of the Lord immediately dries up the darkness in the heart of the conditioned soul. In other words, everyone serious about understanding the transcendental science and seeing the transcendental form of the Lord must first of all attempt to see the lotus feet of the Lord by studying the First and Second Cantos of Srimad-Bhagavatam. When one sees the lotus feet of the Lord, all kinds of doubts and fears within the heart are vanquished.
(More...) Imported quote 14072 In Vedic literature it is said that everything is Brahman and nothing else. The whole cosmic manifestation rests on the Brahman effulgence. The impersonalists, however, cannot understand how such a huge cosmic manifestation can rest on a person. Thus this inconceivable power of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is not understood by the impersonalists; therefore they are puzzled and always denying that the Absolute Truth is a person. This wrong impression is cleared by Lord Siva himself, who says that the impersonal Brahman which is spread all over the universe is nothing but the Supreme Lord Himself. Here it is clearly said that the Lord is spread everywhere, just like the sunshine, by virtue of His Brahman feature. This example is very easy to understand. All the planetary systems are resting upon the sunshine, yet the sunshine, as well as the source of sunshine, are aloof from the planetary manifestations. Similarly, the sky or air is spread everywhere; air is within a pot, but it also touches filthy places and sanctified places alike. In any case, the sky is uncontaminated. The sunshine also touches filthy places and sanctified places, and both are actually produced by the sun, but in any case the sun is aloof from all filthy things. Similarly, the Lord exists everywhere. There are pious things and impious things, but in the sastras the pious things are described as the front of the Supreme Lord, whereas impious things are described as the backside of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In Bhagavad-gita the Lord clearly says:

Imported quote 15725 This verse indicates that everyone should be engaged in devotional service to the Supreme Lord; "O my Lord, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, You are the Maintainer of the whole Universe. Everyone is sustained by Your mercy. Therefore, devotional service unto You is the true religion of life. I am therefore engaged in such devotional service, and I expect that You will please maintain me, and ever increasingly engage me in Your transcendental service. For the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the eternal Form of Sat-Chit-Ananda, and Your effulgence is spread all over the Creation, just like the sunshine. Where the sun disc is covered by the glaring sunshine, similarly Your transcendental Form is covered by the Brahmajyoti. I desire to find You within the Brahmajyoti-therefore please remove this glaring effulgence."

Imported quote 16288 The Mayavadi theory that after liberation the individual soul, separated by the covering of maya or illusion, will merge into the impersonal Brahman and lose its individual existence is not supported herein by Lord Krsna, the supreme authority. Nor is the theory that we only think of individuality in the conditioned state supported herein. Krsna clearly says herein that in the future also the individuality of the Lord and others, as it is confirmed in the Upanisads, will continue eternally. This statement of Krsna is authoritative because Krsna cannot be subject to illusion. If individuality is not a fact, then Krsna would not have stressed it so much-even for the future. The Mayavadi may argue that the individuality spoken of by Krsna is not spiritual, but material. Even accepting the argument that the individuality is material, then how can one distinguish Krsna's individuality? Krsna affirms His individuality in the past and confirms His individuality in the future also. He has confirmed His individuality in many ways, and impersonal Brahman has been declared to be subordinate to Him. Krsna has maintained spiritual individuality all along; if He is accepted as an ordinary conditioned soul in individual consciousness, then His Bhagavad-gita has no value as authoritative scripture. A common man with all the four defects of human frailty is unable to teach that which is worth hearing. The Gita is above such literature. No mundane book compares with the Bhagavad-gita. When one accepts Krsna as an ordinary man, the Gita loses all importance. The Mayavadi argues that the plurality mentioned in this verse is conventional and that it refers to the body. But previous to this verse such a bodily conception is already condemned. After condemning the bodily conception of the living entities, how was it possible for Krsna to place a conventional proposition on the body again? Therefore, individuality is maintained on spiritual grounds and is thus confirmed by great acaryas like Sri Ramanuja and others. It is clearly mentioned in many places in the Gita that this spiritual individuality is understood by those who are devotees of the Lord. Those who are envious of Krsna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead have no bona fide access to the great literature. The nondevotee's approach to the teachings of the Gita is something like bees licking on a bottle of honey. One cannot have a taste of honey unless one opens the bottle. Similarly, the mysticism of the Bhagavad-gita can be understood only by devotees, and no one else can taste it, as it is stated in the Fourth Chapter of the book. Nor can the Gita be touched by persons who envy the very existence of the Lord. Therefore, the Mayavadi explanation of the Gita is a most misleading presentation of the whole truth. Lord Caitanya has forbidden us to read commentations made by the Mayavadis and warns that one who takes to such an understanding of the Mayavadi philosophy loses all power to understand the real mystery of the Gita. If individuality refers to the empirical universe, then there is no need of teaching by the Lord. The plurality of the individual soul and of the Lord is an eternal fact, and it is confirmed by the Vedas as above mentioned.
(More...) Imported quote 16402 The Absolute Truth is manifested in three different stages according to our understanding. The Absolute Truth is one, but according to my capacity I understand Absolute Truth in three features. Those who are trying to understand the Absolute Truth by dint of his imperfect knowledge, he comes to the conclusion that Absolute Truth is impersonal. Suppose I give you a concrete example: One man is in darkness; he wants to come to the light. So when he comes to the sunshine he sees the sunshine impersonal. But if he has got power to go to the sun globe, he sees something localized; and if he has power to see the sun god, he will see something personal. So those who are outside the localized aspect and personal aspect of Krsna, those who are in the sunshine portion, or in the effulgent portion… Effulgence means minute particles of the soul assemble together, just like the sunshine is the combination of molecular shining parts. Similarly, we spiritual sparks, when we simply congregate one place, that is called brahma-jyoti. In that portion, because they have no information about the personality of Godhead, they are envious. Therefore, because the spirit soul by nature wants pleasure… Just like if you remain… Suppose you go with your sputnik or aeroplane very high in the sky. If you don't get a shelter in another platform or another planet, you come down again. You cannot remain there. Similarly, in our impersonal feature we cannot remain. And why we remain in the impersonal nature? Because we have no information of the Supreme Personality.
(More...) Imported quote 18945 Show noteSo if we keep Krsna consciousness very active always, that means try to understand Krsna from different angles of vision. Here also, as we are studying analytically the functions of agni, but what is this agni? This is also Krsna, Krsna's energy. Bhūmir apo anala vayuḥ [Bg 7.4], Krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita. Anala. Anala means agni. Bhinna me prakrtir astadha. They are not different from Krsna. Just like sunshine: sunshine is not different from Krsna. Whenever there is sun, wherever there is sun, there is sunshine. Similarly, wherever there is Krsna, the Krsna's energies are also there. Therefore Visnu. Visnu means all-pervading. So Krsna's energies are spread everywhere, just like the illumination, dyotanam. It is called dyotanam, illumination. If the fire is there, there must be illumination. And you have seen in the morning-as soon as the sun..., before the sun rising actually, before we can see the sun, immediately there is illumination, dyotanam. So the energy, sunshine, is the energy of the sun. It is always there. Sunshine is not differentiated from the sun. Similarly, Krsna's energy is not differentiated from Krsna. Therefore fire is Krsna's energy, air is Krsna's energy, water is Krsna's energy, land is Krsna's energy, the sky is Krsna's energy. This is Krsna's all-pervasiveness, or God's all-pervasiveness. Parasya brahmanaḥ saktis tathedam akhilam jagat [Visnu Purana]: "Akhilam, the entire universe, is expansion of Krsna's energy."

In the sunshine there are innumerable radiant molecules. Similarly, the fragmental parts of the Supreme Lord are atomic sparks of the rays of the Supreme Lord, called by the name prabha or superior energy. Neither Vedic knowledge nor modern science denies the existence of the spirit soul in the body, and the science of the soul is explicitly described in the Bhagavad-gita by the Personality of Godhead Himself.
