is original consciousness

Imported quote 13731
The living entity or the soul is ever existing and eternal. It cannot be lost, but learned scholars say that it is lost when actual knowledge is not working. That is the difference between animals and human beings. According to less intelligent philosophers, animals have no soul. But factually animals have souls. Due to the animals' gross ignorance, however, it appears that they have lost their souls. Without the soul, a body cannot move. That is the difference between a living body and a dead body. When the soul is out of the body, the body is called dead. The soul is said to be lost when there is no proper knowledge exhibited. Our original consciousness is Krsna consciousness because we are part and parcel of Krsna. When this consciousness is misguided and one is put into the material atmosphere, which pollutes the original consciousness, one thinks that he is a product of the material elements. Thus one loses his real remembrance of his position as part and parcel of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, just as a man who sleeps forgets himself. In this way, when the activities of proper consciousness are checked, all the activities of the lost soul are performed on a false basis. At the present moment human civilization is acting on a false platform of bodily identification; therefore it can be said that the people of the present age have lost their souls.    (More...)

Every living entity is wandering within this universe in different species and on different planetary systems according to his fruitive activities. Out of many millions of living entities, one may be fortunate enough to receive the seed of bhakti-lata, the creeper of devotional service. By the grace of the spiritual master and Krsna, one nourishes the bhakti-lata by regularly sprinkling it with the water of sravana-kirtana, hearing and chanting. In this way the seed of bhakti-lata sprouts and grows up and up through the whole universe until it penetrates the covering of the material universe and reaches the spiritual world. The bhakti-lata continues to grow until it reaches the topmost planetary system, Goloka Vrndavana, where Krsna lives. There the creeper takes shelter at the lotus feet of the Lord, and that is its final destination. At that time the creeper begins to grow the fruits of ecstatic love of God. It is the duty of the devotee who nourishes the creeper to be very careful. It is said that the watering of the creeper must continue: ihah mali sece nitya sravanadi jala. It is not that at a certain stage one can stop chanting and hearing and become a mature devotee. If one stops, one certainly falls down from devotional service. Although one may be very exalted in devotional service, he should not give up the watering process of sravana-kirtana. If one gives up that process, it is due to an offense. This is described in the following verse.    (More...)
The Lord then explained to Sanatan Goswami about the various types and symptoms of practical devotional service. When devotional service becomes practical-to be performed with our present senses-at that time it is called practical devotional service. Actually, devotional service is the eternal life of the living entity, and is lying dormant in everyone's heart. The practice which invokes that dormant devotional service is called practical devotional service. The purport is that a living entity is constitutionally part and parcel of the Supreme Lord. The Lord is compared to the Sun, and the living entities are compared to the molecules of sunshine. Under the spell of illusory energy, that spiritual spark is almost extinct. But, by practical devotional service, one is again revived to his natural constitutional position. When one is practicing such devotional service, it means that he is going back to his original normal position of liberation. Such devotional service can be practiced with one's senses, under the direction of a bona fide Spiritual Master.    (More...)

Now these American and the European boys, they are after me. They are after this for the last six, seven years. Had it been an artificial thing, they could not stay. That is not possible. It is not artificial. It is already there, Krsna. Krsna-bhakti nitya-siddha. It is already there. By the process of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, I am simply trying to awaken that krsna-bhakti. That's all. That is the duty of guru. Caksur unmilitam yena. He opens the eyes, that "Why you have forgotten Krsna? Here is Krsna. You love Him. You'll be happy." This is guru's business. Not that he is giving artificially something which is known as krsna-bhakti. Krsna-bhakti's already there. Nitya-siddha krsna-bhakti sadhya kabhu naya, sravanadi-suddha-citte. Simply by this process, hear about Krsna. That we have introduced. In our so many centers this process is going on: Hear about Krsna, chant about Krsna. Simply "Krsna, Krsna, Krsna, Krsna." Srnvatam sva-kathaḥ krsnaḥ [SB 1.2.17]. Then Krsna will help you.    (More...)
Imported quote 18664
Just like sex impulse. It doesn't require to..., how to awaken sex impulse. Natural. Similarly, krsna-bhakti is our natural inheritance because we are part and parcel of Krsna, or sons of Krsna. Aham bija-pradaḥ pita [Bg 14.4]. It is the same example, that as the mother and the child has got natural affection, similarly, with Bhagavan we have got natural affection. Bhagavan has got natural affection for us, and we have got also natural affection for Bhagavan. And the external covering which checks this natural affection, this is called maya. Just like touch... What is called, magnetic stone? Magnetic stone naturally attracts the iron, and iron is naturally attracted by the magnetic stone. Similarly, krsna-bhakti is not something which is unnaturally taught or unnaturally gained, artificial.    (More...)
This... Another vivid example is this: these foreigners, Western boys and girls, how they became attracted with Krsna consciousness unless it is natural? Their forefathers, or they also, even four, five, six years ago, they did not know what is Krsna, neither they cared to know. But now they are almost mad after Krsna. Otherwise, why they are coming here? They have not come here in India to see your skyscraper building or industry. They are not at all interested. They have seen all these things in their own country. They have enough. So why they have come here? They are after Vrndavana. They are after Mayapur. They are after me. What is the attraction? The attraction is Krsna. They are not interested with anything else. They do not go to see your skyscraper building in New Delhi or in Bombay. They have seen it enough. So why it is so? Because it is natural. Krsna-bhakti, Krsna consciousness, is natural. That is the original consciousness.    (More...)
The example is given here: yatha apam prakrtiḥ para. Just like the water, rains, fall from the sky. If you do not allow to touch the water the ground, you take it in the middle, you will find crystal, distilled water. You will find. And as soon as it comes down on the ground, it becomes muddy, the purity lost. Muddy, opaque; you cannot see, agitated. Similarly, our original consciousness is Krsna consciousness. That is svaccha, svacchatvam avikaritvam. In the original consciousness we do not know anything else than Krsna. Avikaritvam. There is no change. Therefore in the Vaikuntha planets, especially in the Goloka Vrndavana planet, that is exhibited. When Krsna comes to show His dhama-goloka-namni nija-dhamni-that is His own abode. So Krsna, when Krsna comes, He brings everything with Him: His dhama, His qualities, His place, His paraphernalia, His associates, His father, His mother, His friend, His consort, His trees, His water-everything He brings. That is Vrndavana. You will find in Vrndavana still-still you will find-people are all automatically Krsna conscious. Eighty-four, caurasi-kos, about 160 miles' area. So they are Krsna conscious naturally. And if you go to Vrndavana, this area, wherever you go, you will feel Krsna consciousness. So the example of purity is still there. And what to speak of in the original Vrndavana?    (More...)
Imported quote 18709
So some way or other, originally, we are all Krsna conscious, pure, svaccha. Svacchatvam avikaritvam. Now vikurvanat, now, being transformed or agitated somehow or other... Anadi karama-phale, paḍi' bhavarnava-jale. We cannot ascertain when this transformation took place. There is no necessity of making research how we fell in this material contamination or envelopment. But we should be intelligent enough to understand that we are fallen now. That is... How we fell, you can trace out the history, but it is very difficult because anadi karama-phale-nobody can ascertain. Just like when a man is diseased he goes to doctor. So when he goes to the doctor, the doctor gives him medicine according to the symptoms and the diagnosis. There is no necessity of find out the history, how he fell diseased. There is history, but that is not possible to trace out. Therefore it is said, anadi karama-phale. Anadi. Anadi means... Adi means the creation. Creation... Before creation I contaminated this desire, iccha-dvesa samutthena [Bg 7.27]. I became revolting to the desires. Krsna says... Every one of us revolting now also. Krsna says, sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja [Bg 18.66], but we are revolting: "Why? Why shall I surrender to You? This is too much You are demanding." This is going on. This is going on. This is the disease. And to cure the disease Krsna Himself comes. Yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati, tadatmanam srjami [Bg 4.7]. But we are so stubborn that we won't..., do not like to be cured.    (More...)
So if we want to be cured again and come to our original consciousness, Krsna consciousness, which is svacchatvam avikaritvam santatvam cetasaḥ, then we have to take to this Krsna consciousness. That is the only way. There is no other way to become peaceful. Santatvam avikar..., without any change, fixed-up mind-that is Krsna consciousness, santi. If you want... Everyone is hankering after santi. The santi formula is given everywhere in the sastra. And the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, is personally saying, "This is santi." What is this?    (More...)
Imported quote 24291
The Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Krsna, as it is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita (Bg. 18.61), is the all-pervading omnipresent Supersoul. Therefore one who is a yogi can only worship Him because He is the substance and not illusion. Every living creature is engaging in the service of something else. A living being's constitutional position is to render service, but in the atmosphere of maya, or illusion, or the conditional state of existence, the conditioned soul seeks the service of illusion. A conditioned soul works in the service of his temporary body, bodily relatives like the wife and children, and the necessary paraphernalia for maintaining the body and bodily relations, namely the house, land, wealth, society, country, etc., but he does not know that all such renderings of service are totally illusory. As we have discussed many times before, this material world is itself an illusion, like the mirage in the desert. In the desert there is an illusion of water, and the foolish animals become entrapped by such illusion and run after water in the desert, although there is no water at all. But because there is no water in the desert, one does not conclude that there is no water at all. The intelligent person knows well that there is certainly water, water in the seas and oceans, but such vast reservoirs of water are far, far away from the desert. One should therefore search for water in the vicinity of seas and oceans and not in the desert. Every one of us is searching after real happiness in life, namely eternal life, eternal or unlimited knowledge and unending blissful life. But foolish people who have no knowledge of the substance search after the reality of life in the illusion. This material body does not endure eternally, and everything in relation with this temporary body, namely the wife, children, society, country, etc., also changes along with the change of body. This is called samsara or repetition of birth, death, old age and disease. We would like to find a solution for all these problems of life, but we do not know the way. Herein it is suggested that anyone who wants to make an end of these miseries of life, namely repetition of birth, death, disease, and old age, must take to this process of worshiping the Supreme Lord and not others, as it is also ultimately suggested in the Bhagavad-gita (Bg. 18.65). If we at all want to end the cause of our conditioned life, we must take to the worship of Lord Sri Krsna, who is present in everyone's heart by His natural affection for all living beings, who are actually the parts and parcels of the Lord (Bg. 18.65). The baby in the lap of his mother is naturally attached to the mother, and the mother is attached to the child. But when the child grows up and becomes overwhelmed by circumstances, he gradually becomes detached from the mother, but the mother always expects some sort of service from the grown-up child, and she is equally affectionate for her child, even though the child is forgetful. Similarly, because we are all part and parcel of the Lord, the Lord is always affectionate to us, and He always tries to get us back home and back to Godhead. But we, the conditioned souls, do not care for Him and run instead after the illusory bodily connections. We must therefore extricate ourselves from all illusory connections of the world and seek reunion with the Lord, trying to render service unto Him because He is the ultimate truth. Actually we are hankering after Him as the child seeks the mother. And to search out the Supreme Personality of Godhead, we need not go anywhere else, because the Lord is within our hearts. This does not, however, suggest that we should not go to the places of worship, namely the temples, churches and mosques. Such holy places of worship are also occupied by the Lord because the Lord is omnipresent. For the common man these holy places are centers of learning about the science of God. When the temples are devoid of activities, the people in general become disinterested in such places, and consequently the mass of people gradually become godless, and a godless civilization is the result. Such a hellish civilization increases artificially the conditions of life, and existence becomes intolerable for everyone. The foolish leaders of a godless civilization try to devise various plans to bring about peace and prosperity in the godless world under a patent trademark of materialism, and because such attempts are illusory only, the people elect incompetent, blind leaders one after another who are incapable of offering solutions. If we want at all to end this anomaly of a godless civilization, we must follow the principles of revealed scriptures like the Srimad-Bhagavatam and follow the instruction of a person like Sri Sukadeva Gosvami who has no attraction for material gain.    (More...)
