world is false

You have said, "I am not fatigued from labor." Although the soul is different from the body, there is fatigue because of bodily labor, and it appears to be the fatigue of the soul. When you are carrying the palanquin, there is certainly labor for the soul. This is my conjecture. You have also said that the external behavior exhibited between the master and the servant is not factual, but although in the phenomenal world it is not factual, the products of the phenomenal world can actually affect things. That is visible and experienced. As such, even though material activities are impermanent, they cannot be said to be untrue.    (More...)

This is a discussion on impersonal Mayavada philosophy and the practical philosophy of Vaisnavas. The Mayavada philosophy explains this phenomenal world to be false, but Vaisnava philosophers do not agree. They know that the phenomenal world is a temporary manifestation, but it is not false. A dream that we see at night is certainly false, but a horrible dream certainly affects the person seeing it. The soul's fatigue is not factual, but as long as one is immersed in the illusory bodily conception, one is affected by such false dreams. When dreaming, it is not possible to avoid the actual facts, and the conditioned soul is forced to suffer due to his dream. A waterpot is made of earth and is temporary. Actually there is no waterpot; there is simply earth. However, as long as the waterpot can contain water, we can use it in that way. It cannot be said to be absolutely false.    (More...)

"By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them." Thus although someone may say that the Supreme Person is different from the cosmic manifestation, actually He is not. The Lord says, maya tatam idam sarvam: "In My impersonal feature I am spread throughout the world." Therefore, this world is not different from Him. The difference is a difference in names. For example, whether we speak of gold earrings, gold bangles or gold necklaces, ultimately they are all gold. In a similar way, all the different manifestations of matter and spirit are ultimately one in the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Ekam evadvitiyam brahma. This is the Vedic version (Chandogya Upanisad 6.2.1). There is oneness because everything emanates from the Supreme Brahman. The example already given is that there is no difference between a golden earring and the gold mine as it is. The Vaisesika philosophers, however, because of their Mayavada conception, create differences. They say, brahma satyam jagan mithya: "The Absolute Truth is real, and the cosmic manifestation is false." But why should the jagat be considered mithya? The jagat is an emanation from Brahman. Therefore the jagat is also truth.    (More...)

Mayavadi philosophy has the audacity to decline acceptance of the purpose of Vyasadeva, as explained in the Vedanta Sutra, and has tried instead to establish transformation of the Supreme: a doctrine of transformation by imagination. According to Mayavadi philosophy, the cosmic manifestation is a transformation of the Absolute Truth, and the Absolute Truth has no separate existence. This is not the message of the Vedanta Sutra. This transformation has been explained by Mayavadi philosophers as false; but it is not false-it is temporary. Mayavadi philosophy says that the Absolute Truth is the only truth, and this manifestation of the world is false, Actually it is not so. The material contamination is not false; it is relative truth, and therefore it is temporary.    (More...)

This is the atheistic theory, asatyam. They say that this material world is false. Brahma satyam jagan mithya. Jagat, jagat means this cosmic manifestation which is gacchati, going. In the material world, everything is going. Just like in your city you see the cars, motorcars, they are going here and there, gacchati, very busy. Every man is going here and there. Similarly, the whole planetary system also, beginning from its birth up to the annihilation, it is going, moving, orbit. It is going. Everything is going, moving. Even the sun, it has got its orbit. Yac-caksur esa savita sakala-grahanam raja samasta..., asesa-tejaḥ, yasyajnaya bhramati sambhrta-kala-cakraḥ [Bs 5.52]. The... Just like the earth has its orbit-it is rotating-similarly, every planet is rotating. The sun is also rotating. And so far I calculate, it is sixteen thousand miles per minute, or second. I calculated once. The sun is rotating sixteen thousand miles either per minute or per second. I forget now.    (More...)

So the Mayavadi philosopher, they simply want to destroy. Negative side. They have no information of the positive side, that after destruction... Suppose you are not satisfied with some business or some service. So you want to: "Oh, I want to leave this business. I want..." But you leave... Suppose you are getting, say, five hundred rupees. Then, if you leave, then you'll be zero, no income. If you get another service which will fetch you six hundred rupees, then you are profited. But if you simply give it up, this service, and become zero, then you become unemployed; the miseries will increase. The Mayavadi, being disgusted with this material world... Brahma..., jagan mithya. Jagan mithya, that's, that's all right. Then brahma satyam. That is theoretical. If you do not engage yourself as Brahman, then again you'll fall down. Aruhya krcchrena param padam tataḥ patanty adhaḥ anadrta-yusmad-ahghrayaḥ [SB 10.2.32].    (More...)
So therefore we must have positive engagement. Simply negation, jagan mithya... Why jagan mithya? We don't say jagan mithya. This building, this nice building, is it mithya? It is not mithya. It is perfectly true, because here Krsna is being worshiped, the devotees are chanting... This is life, this truth. So why shall I say "jagan mithya"? You have to utilize jagat in such a way that it will become truth. That process is samsiddhir hari-tosanam [SB 1.2.13]. Here only business is how Krsna will be satisfied. That is the only business. That is perfection. To become perfect means to learn how to satisfy Krsna. That is perfection. It doesn't require education and doesn't require big, big titles or... Nothing. You try to satisfy Krsna. Samsiddhir hari-tosanam [SB 1.2.13]. Therefore here Kuntidevi... Tvayi me ananya-visaya. Visaya means sense gratification. This is visaya: ahara-nidra-bhaya-maithunam ca [Hitopadesa 25].    (More...)

Prabhupada: Existence of thing... I say that at night, when I am dreaming, I do not see existence of these things. And at this time, in daytime, when I am seeing these things, I do not see the existence of the dream. So the conclusion should be both these things I see in daytime and I see at night, they have no existence. They are phenomenal. But I am the seer; I am eternal. I am existing. This is the proof. Because at night I am seeing and daytime I am seeing, so therefore I am eternal. But the phenomenal manifestation, they are temporary. We don't say it is false. Temporary. The Mayavadi philo... Sahkara said it is false. Brahma satyam jagan mithya. Mithya means false. We don't say false. We don't say that this book is false. It has got reality, but temporary. This book has come into form at a certain date, and it will exist for certain days, and when it will be worn out or old, there will be no existence. Therefore the formation of this book is temporary. But I am the reader of the book; I am eternal. So two things are there: temporary and eternal. The temporary existence, somebody says "False," but we say, "It is not false; it is temporary." But there is an eternal existence. Just like I am eternal. That is... We have to learn from sabda, vibration. Na hanyate hanyamane sarire [Bg 2.20]. You understand Sanskrit. Na hanyate hanyamane sarire. That eternal thing is exist, existing, it will continue to exist. Even after the destruction of this temporary body, it will continue to exist.    (More...)

Prabhupada: Yes. Everything can be utilized for Krsna. That is our preaching. That is truth. There is a nice car. Why shall I condemn it? Utilize it for Krsna. Then it is truth. And the Mayavadi philosophers, they will say, "It is untruth. Give it up." No. When you have produced something by your good intelligence, it is truth, but when you use it for other purpose than Krsna, then it is false. [break] ...Deity nicely decorated, if I say, "It is all false," is that very good sense? They have created such a nice thing. No, the purpose for which you have created or utilized, that is false. So we want to change the consciousness. We don't condemn the thing.    (More...)

Therefore Prahlada Maharaja, when he was asked by his father, "My dear boy, what best thing you have learned from your teachers? Will you explain to me?" so Prahlada Maharaja immediately replied, tat sadhu manye 'sura-varya dehinam sada samudvigna-dhiyam asad-grahat [SB 7.5.5]: "Yes, I have learned the best thing is that these materialistic persons, who have accepted the asad-vastu..." Sat and asat. Sad gama asato ma: "Don't keep yourself in the asat; go to the sat." Om tat sat. That is the Vedic injunction. So... [buzzing sound] Material world means asad-vastu. Asad-vastu means not good or which will not stay. Asat. Sat means which exists, and asat means not existing. So in the material world nothing will exist. It exists for some time, temporary. The Mayavadi philosopher says that brahma satyam jagan mithya. We Vaisnavas, we do not say mithya, because God, or the Supreme Brahman, is truth, so there cannot be anything untruth from the truth. That is not possible. Just like if you prepare something from gold, an earring, that earring is also gold. You cannot say it is something else.    (More...)
The philosophy that the Absolute is true and this creation is false (brahma satyaṁ jagan mithyā) is not accepted by Vaiṣṇava philosophers.
The philosophy that the Absolute is true and this creation is false (brahma satyam jagan mithya) is not accepted by Vaisnava philosophers. The example is given that although all that glitters is not gold, this does not mean that a glittering object is false. For example, an oyster shell appears to be golden. This appearance of golden hue is due only to the perception of the eyes, but that does not mean that the oyster shell is false. Similarly, by seeing the form of Lord Krsna one cannot understand what He actually is, but this does not mean that He is false. The form of Krsna has to be understood as it is described in the books of knowledge such as Brahma-samhita. Īsvaraḥ paramaḥ krsnaḥ sac-cid-ananda-vigrahaḥ: Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, has an eternal, blissful spiritual body. By our imperfect sense perception we cannot understand the form of the Lord. We have to acquire knowledge about Him. Therefore it is said here, jnanam ekam. Bhagavad-gita confirms that they are fools who, simply upon seeing Krsna, consider Him a common man. They do not know the unlimited knowledge, power and opulence of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Material sense speculation leads to the conclusion that the Supreme is formless. It is because of such mental speculation that the conditioned soul remains in ignorance under the spell of illusory energy. The Supreme Person has to be understood by the transcendental sound vibrated by Him in Bhagavad-gita, wherein He says that there is nothing superior to Himself; the impersonal Brahman effulgence is resting on His personality. The purified, absolute vision of Bhagavad-gita is compared to the River Ganges. Ganges water is so pure that it can purify even the asses and cows. But anyone who, disregarding the pure Ganges, wishes to be purified instead by the filthy water flowing in a drain, cannot be successful. Similarly, one can successfully attain pure knowledge of the Absolute only by hearing from the pure Absolute Himself.    (More...)
